Heisman Watch
Heisman Trophy

1. Tim Tebow, QB, Florida (JR)

 '08 Passing Stats: 2,515 YDS, 65%, 28 TD's, 2 INT's

His numbers aren't quite as impressive as last year when he won the Heisman but the exceptional leadership and toughness Tebow has exhibited more than make up the difference. Besides, his numbers are still pretty darn good and he has also rushed for 564 yards and 12 touchdowns. Oh, and did I mention he has his team in position to win their second National Championship in three years? You can make a strong case for others but Tebow gets my vote.

2. Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma (SO)

 '08 Passing Stats: 4,464 YDS, 68%, 48 TD's, 6 INT's

Nobody has throw for more touchdowns in their first two seasons than Bradford. Just think about that for a second. In addition to his own glowing statistics Bradford also had his team on a roll, with the Sooners becoming the first squad to score at least 60 points in five consecutive games. When it comes to numbers Bradford can hold his own with anyone but he also won what was arguably the country's toughest conference and will play for a BCS title.

3. Colt McCoy, QB, Texas (JR)

 '08 Passing Stats: 3,445 YDS, 78%, 32 TD's, 7 INT's

There are many who feel that McCoy should be at the top of this list and, honestly, it's hard to argue with them. McCoy has had an amazing season and if not for that last second loss to Texas Tech he might have had his team playing for a National Championship. Perhaps no single player is more valuable to his team than McCoy as he led the Longhorns in both passing and rushing. Ultimately I just feel Tebow & Bradford have slightly stronger resumes.

4. Darryl Clark, QB, Penn St. (JR)

 '08 Passing Stats: 2,319 YDS, 60%, 17 TD's, 4 INT's

In 2007 Penn St. had a .500 record in their conference and now they are playing in the Rose Bowl. The one big difference between last year and this year is Clark taking over at quarterback and he has clearly been the catalyst behind the Nittany Lion's improbable season. His numbers don't stand out, although he also ran for 9 scores, but this is a case where statistics don't tell the whole story. Darryl Clark deserves an invite to New York.

5. Graham Harrell, QB, Texas Tech (SR)

 '08 Passing Stats: 4,747 YDS, 72%, 41 TD's, 7 INT's

Before their loss to Oklahoma the Red Raiders were undefeated and ranked as high as #2 in the country. That single loss cost them a shot at the national title and probably ruined any chance Graham Harrell had of winning the Heisman but it shouldn't take away from their outstanding season. As expected Harrell's passing stats were incredible but how he led his program to levels that they had never reached before was even more impressive.

Honorable Mention

   6. Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech (SO)
        - 18 touchdown receptions including an amazing game winner against Texas.

   7. Shonn Greene, RB, Iowa (JR)
        - Second in the nation in rushing and he went over 100 yards in every game.

   8. Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri (SO)
        - Dynamic weapon led the nation in all-purpose yardage with 200 per game.

   9. Mark Sanchez, QB, USC (JR)
        - Might have been in the Top 5 of this list if not for that loss to Oregon St.

 10. Julio Jones, WR, Alabama (FR)
        - Fab frosh lived up to the hype and was the Tide's top threat on offense.
