I made the earlier Madden thread, and I thought NCAA needed some love. Usually, I never got NCAA Football, but instead just rented it and played it. But I am going to get it this year, as it looks very, very good for the next gen. systems, at least.

I love college football so i may be bias but I always get NCAA (I have skipped Madden the past 2 years). I play NCAA year round (i'm in 2014 right now with Minnesota, won a NC in three out of the past five years).

I just hope they continue to add to the depth of recruiting. What could make it the best game ever is if you can REALY recruit and sign players year round. Not just during the season but have recruiting a year round thing where players sign and decommit all the time. You should not just have a certain time to recruit and spend 3 minutes during the season just adding points to a recruit. And you should be able to recruit any player in the country. During the season there should be a Rivals 100 and 250 and you can recruit any player. There should be risers and fallers for a players senior season. There should also be guys who are "once in a while" prospects. Like have a QB who will immediately be rated a 88 or something, making recruiting him so intense. It seems the top rated recruit is never over 84. Guys like Myron Rolle was like an 88 or something his Freshman year.

They should add a new feature/attribute called "High Strung" or something. This feature will be for head cases who have potential through the roof (Noel Devine, Randy Moss, Fred Rouse, Willie Williams ect). The higher the rating, the more the potential. But also, the higher the rating, the more chance the player has at becoming academically ineligible and or a problem on the team. There should be ways to mentor that player (that is what the discipline points should be used for, instead of just suspensions). If the "High strung" rating is low, then it means the player wont get in any trouble but may not every become a superstar ratings wise. For instance

you sign a ILB with a overall of 80 and a low high strung rating. By the time he is a senior he has made All Accademic honors (which should be another feature in NCAA that adds to the reputation of your program accademically and raises your career rating as a coach). But he never really got a whole lot better and by the time he is a senior he is rated like 90. So in 4 years he only grew 10 points. (aka overachiever)

On the other hand you could sign a WR with an overall of 78 but a very high "high strung" rating. He may get suspended for a few games or you may have to use alot of discipline points on him but by the time he is a junior he has already grown about 15 points to a 93. By the time he is a senior he may be at 97 or something.

This would add to the realism of every prospect being an individual and you would have to carefully chose which guys to recruit and offer scholarships to, not just the highest rated players. And teams like FSU, Tenn, Miami, Florida, WVU should be programmed to recruit many of the high strung character guys but the more "clean program" type schools would not. You should also have the ability to kick players off the team and other schools would have the chance to offer him a scholarship.

It should be a little more realistic when it comes to how the talent is dispersed. California, Florida, and Texas should consistently produce the most talent and their respected teams should get most of their recruits from that state. One time I saw FSU in like 2010 had more players from Georgia on their team then they had in their own state. Not very realistic.

One of the biggest upgrades would be if you could go to High School games for designated prospects (or any prospect for that matter, but just one a week). And at the game you could control whatever player you are recruiting (just to get a feel of how he plays). Of course it would be extremely easy but you should be able to play every snap of that player. Lets say you are recruting a QB, you should be able to play as him on offense. There will be cut screens to let you know how the defense plays but you only control the offense and the QB. Whenever the defense takes over then it simulates past it right back to offense. Therefor it wouldnt take forever to play the game. Also stats for that game should translate in the recruting process. If you passed for 340 yards and 5 TD's then in the recruting report it will say something like "in his last game he passed for 340 yards and threw a school record 5 TD passes" or something. And each prospect should have accumlative season statistics so you can view how each prospect performed on paper.

Then at the end of the season your coach will have the ability to coach in All Star games like Florida vs Texas or the Florida vs Cali game. And then the Army All American Bowl (where recruits will declare live just like in real life). You will have the ability to play as either the East or the West squad.

Signing day should be a big event in the game. Where you get to see players announce on ESPN and watnot. Getting a top notch five star player on signing day should be exciting and intense. There also should be multiple services rating the recruits and the recruiting classes. If you sign a top 5 class then your rating as a coach should improve. There should be icons for coaches like

"great motivator" which means you can make players ratings rise
"Great recruiter" which means your name along will attrack recruits
"Great Disciplinary" which means you can help control high strung players
"Great teacher" which means you keep players from failing acadmically

and this is how you become one of the top coaches in the game, so when you leave for a a new program your resume will include these icons as well as you win/loss.

Also in Heisman mode you should start off as a junior in HS starting varsity. and you play through your scheduel. If your a QB then you only play the offensive snaps and the defensive scenes are simulated right back to offense. If your an athlete that plays both ways then there will be no cut screens. Then teams start recruiting you and offering you. Then you have the ability to commit to anyone who offers you at any time (and decommit). You can scheduel officals and unofficials. You wiill get invited to many camps and you can turn any down or participate to maybe convince a team to offer you a scholly if you perform well in drills. Then the Junior 100 and 250 should come out. After that season the process is started over but this time with the Rivals 100 and 250 out (for seniors). Then you begin your quest for the Heisman after the season is over and you sign with someone.


Last but not least, in Dynasty Mode after a season in which there is contravery with the BCS rankings you as a coach should have the ability to vote on changes to the syetem. Your choices should include: Plus one, BCS tournament (with 8 teams), 16 team tourney, and 20 team tourney, and whichever one you vote will be the new system implanted the next year.


sorry so long, but I LOVE this game and if I was developing it these are a few things I would do to make it the best (and most realistic) football game ever.

and get different broadcasters for each so that each game feels different and doesnt have the same presentation

like if your playing as Georgia vs Tennesee the music that plays during the game will be the CBS SEC music. The look will have the sort of foggy cloudy look and the score box, player picture box (with the player face showing while in a tux), and font will all look like how the CBS station boradcastes it.

The SEC game of the week should always be broadcasted by CBS, with the next next selection going on ESPN and the other games on that other channell that shows SEC games and they look like this presentation wise

BCS games should be broadcasted by Fox with their music and a different broadcast team from CBS or ESPN

Notre Dame games (well most) should be played on NBC with its music and presentation

For games vs Top 25 teams, they should get games on ESPN while the game of the week should be at 8 on ABC. Most Big 10 games should be played at noon on ESPN. It would be great each week if they had a College Gameday wrapup video which includes real highlights from the top games. Highlights should be saved from games and ran when previewing games. Like the builduip for USC for ND will show real highlghts (not pre recorded repetition clips) of USC and ND games for the year. Also it should be highlights from the Heisman players in the ceramony.

even if they couldnt get the rights to the real presentation of Fox, CBS, ect. they should still offer different presentations for different conferences, just to add to the unique feel of each game (so it doesnt feel repetitive)

I love NCAA, last year I got through 7 seasons of NCAA and only 2 on madden. I can't wait for 08, didn't know it was coming out in a month, pretty sick. Rankings should be coming out soon.

-Black loved the essay. Some great points. Something else they need to deal with are jump balls. Im a bit tired one my WR going up with one hand and never catching a thing. Another thing needing fixing is a way to disguise blitzs. It would be great to have 8 in the box then drop back into a zone. Also another thing is that i would like a reverse to actually work. Also some new defenses, maybe a little 2-2-7 for like 4th and 17.

The receivers got 100 times better this year from last year. I couldn't compete a short bullet to save my life in 06, last year was pretty good though.

Yes great point. I've had receivers finish seasons with like 13-15 drops every year, so pissed about it. Damn fumbling is a problem too. Felix Jones had like 8-12 carries per game and had like 9 fumbles, that's almost realistic.

i like using the Wing offense, but its kind of impossible to run with your Hb's in it.
They need to change the momentum bar, once the other team gets momentum, your team drops all the passes, fumbles, and basically looks horrible.

And bad players can be high strung as well. So I think they just need a bigger influence based on personality and behavior. So if you have a lot of bad character guys it hurts like a "chemistry" measure on your team. Or say you bench your QB after a half even though he's done well the past year, or the opposite it goes down as long as you keep an underachieving QB in.

I think Team Chemistry is underrated and needs to be included.

If they could make a sweep and a draw plays actually worth running, that would be quite outstanding. I had Darren McFadden running a sweep and he got caught by some DE from Miss. State. WTF????????? Sweeps are automatic losses, same as draws. And for Christ's sake, RECEIVERS DO NOT ALWAYS FALL FORWARD WHEN BLOCKING! WR Blocking in this game borders between atrocious and abominable. I can't count how many times a WR block on a corner or safety would have sprung me for a huge gain.

What are some of the favorite routes to run in this game? I'm a big fan of the drag route on 3rd down if it's zone coverage, and curls in man coverage is absolutely unstoppable. Slants are good too, but curls have a 1% chance of getting picked. Of course, sending Manningham deep on PA is nice too :)

I like zone read type stuff to set up the deep post. Make the safeties come up in run support and give yourself options.

I run draws and sweeps that work all the time. Make sure you are not just sprinting the whole way you have to draw defenders in first.

My favorite route is the short slant followed by the screen.

I was playing with USF in the BIG EAST and went undefeated 3 times and only went to the NC once because of the BCS. Because the conference was so garbage (I think only West Virginia and Uconn had a winning record) the 1 lost SEC and Big 10 teams got in the NC over me

and the trust a HB will have in his o-line, waiting for blocks, instead of cutting it outside

also why does my HB with a 99 speed and 96 agl and 97 acc never break a run thats 50+ yards? he always gets run down from behind.

it seems as if though a 99 is slower than a 96 on that game

NCAA Football 08 Current Gen Producer Blog: Mike Scantlebury
NCAA Football has always been a more wide open game then NFL football. You see more electrifying big plays in College than you do in the Pros. More trick plays, more unique formations with crazy motions, and in College they run the Option.

In NCAA 08' we added all types of new plays. Auto-motion plays that put key players in the best possible position at the snap, trick plays like the Statue of Liberty, Double Passes, and even the Hook and Ladder (Fiesta Bowl Style). Teams even have crazy formations that are specific to that team only (check out the Gators). If you guys use some of these uncanny new plays at the right time, by the time the defense figures out what's going on you'll already be in the endzone. Here a quick breakdown.

Auto Motion Plays

Sounds simple enough, before the QB snaps the ball a receiver will go in motion automatically. Think about plays like WR sweeps, reverses, end-arounds, and other types of misdirection plays have all become exponentially more effective. In previous editions, plays like end-arounds and reverses didn't work because you had to wait for what seemed like an eternity for your WR to get the handoff. But now, with auto motion, that receiver gets the handoff quickly and already has a running start at the snap. These plays develop so quickly that your opponent may ask you, "What was that?" Work these plays into your gameplan to keep your opponent off balance. Trust me, you'll be glad that you did.

Trick Plays


If the auto motion plays aren't enough to catch your opponent off guard, then the new trick plays in NCAA Football 08 are guaranteed to do the trick (pun intended). The double pass play has you first throw a screen pass to your wide receiver. When the defense converges on that screen, the ball carrier tosses it to another WR downfield, hopefully for a TD. When used at the right time, a double pass can be deadly effective. We also got the Statue of Liberty and hook and ladder play (called "circus" in the game) from the Boise State playbook. If you watched the Fiesta Bowl, remember how shocked you were when you saw Boise State pull these 2 trick plays out their bag of tricks? I'm sure your opponent will be just as shocked.

Wild New Formations


We also added some new formations to go with all these new types of plays, included some team specific formations. After seeing how the Gators utilized their QB last year, I know there are some fans wondering if we are going to do anything special for them. Well, we certainly do. I have a treat for you called "Shotgun-Big F-Tight." There are some plays in this formation where the backup QB lines up under center and the starting QB lines up in the backfield like a HB. Then, out of nowhere, the backup moves from under center to WR, switching to a Shotgun play. The defense doesn't know if it's going to be a pass or a QB run - wild!

These are only a few of the new gameplay features that we added to NCAA Current Gen this year. I haven't even gotten to the features yet - we will give you a preview of that in another upcoming blog.

yup... they really need to make things harder/more realsitic... I want to actually have 20 carries in a game with out racking up 300+ yards rushing... you can score on damn near every running play.

What stances? They seem fine to me. They even have some kick steps in 08.

Madden blocking is gonna be ridiculous, NCAA looks good from what I've seen.

My Idea:
Add D3, D2, and I-AA teams in and be able to play them in Dynasty mode in their own divisions, it doesnt seem real to me during the NFL Draft where no D3, D2 or I-AA players get drafted.

I mean the game isnt hard on Heisman, but a times it is a challenge (especially on the road). WR's drop alot of passes on the road and audibling out of a play is nearly impossible.

I checked my profile and right now it says 95-9. So I have lost 9 games that I have played. 360 version is cake... road/home it doesnt matter...you could be a D+ San Jose State and put up 60+ easy against elite teams on heisman, week after week.

My First game with San Jose State v Washington, i fumbled the ball 5 times with 3 of those goin for TDS includin the game winner with 30 sec left. it was like 49-45 or somethin i was so ****** pissed, you cant run the option run if he cant even throw the ball behind him 10 yards lol.

My most enjoyable game was Vandy vs Ohio State. I was down by 15 with like a minute and a half left, and i scored, so i go for the onside kick, and get it(only time ive ever got it) I did this one patter where EB dominates and i scored easy, with like 55 sec left and im down by 2(missed 2 point conversion) i stop them on defense, they punted and i got it on the 25 with a chance to win, so i do that one pater that EB dominates at and got to their 30 and my ****** QB thorws over EB right into the hands of the Saftey(with QB Vision) and he didnt even have to move, god i wanted to klill someone so bad. 49-47

That was definitely not the greatest bowl game ever. It was the greatest 5 minute span probably, but there's no way that game beats Texas/USC.
