View Full Version : All-Time NFL Fantasy Draft

J E T S JETS
06-02-2007, 11:14 AM
Let me try this again:

The goal is to compete against other members of this board in order to compile the best possible team using all of the players who have ever played an NFL game. From Mel Hein to John Elway to Ryan Leaf - everyone is draftable.

ALL TIMES ARE EASTERN
-I hope to get 11 interested people and myself and we can do a 12 team draft.
-Will we draft all 24 starters. You must draft a base offense with QB, HB, FB, 2 WR, TE, and 5 OL (the positions will be listed as LT/RT not OT so draft guys that played that respective OL position). You can choose to run a 4-3 or 3-4 defense, just make sure you have the right personnell. Like on offense, we'll be drafting an SLB and WLB instead of OLBs and a FS and SS instead of 2 Ss.
-Draft will be serpant style, 1-8 in odd rounds and 8-1 in even.
-You have a 2 hour timer on you to make your selection
-From 12 AM to 10 AM ET there is a "dead period" in which the clock does not count for anyone
-Draft the guy that you thought was the best player over his career ; taking durability, playing ability, and possibly character into account.
-All players from the AAFC, AFL or NFL are eligible. Stats from other leagues (such as Warren Moon's CFL stats) do not count.
-If anyone dislikes one of the rules or has something to add to it, post your opinion and we'll all discuss it and make a decision
-Any questions post them and I will answer.

I'd definitely be interested....

No offense though, I'm a little skeptical of how it will hold together, typically new posters have trouble keepin the league together, but I'm willing to give you a shot.

If you guys don't think I'm capable then I wouldn't mind if someone else took over, as long as I still get to be in this thing. Be my guest if you want to.

Nah, I woudln't do any better of a job myself, just people have been burned before with stuff like that....

I trust ya tho haha.

J E T S JETS
06-03-2007, 09:14 PM
How exactly do you guys want to handle a league? Have voting for the games or in a sim? And then trades and FA allowed? Sorry just not familiar with the whole league thing... but I'm a quick learner and I'll have it down pat by the time we finish this draft.

adschofield
06-03-2007, 10:34 PM
Have polls. Just have a draft, no trades, no FA.

GB12
06-03-2007, 11:10 PM
I'm not sure if I want to join yet. Overall it looks like you have good rules and as long as you don't disappear it should run smoothly. The one thing I noticed wrong was the 6 hour time limit. You are going to want to shorten that if you ever want to finish. Not only will it be way too long between picks, but people will lose interest fast. 2 hours would be the max, personally I would go even shorter than that.

That's just a suggestion take it for what you want.

J E T S JETS
06-04-2007, 06:05 AM
^And then we have flurries of people missing picks because they are at work and such. Maybe I'll tune it down to 2 or 3... but I'm not going any lower then that.

Does anyone mind if I do the draft order the opposite of the order we signed up in?

KCJ58
06-04-2007, 08:32 PM
just do the order random or by posts # or by join Date or pick out of a hat

adschofield
06-04-2007, 08:35 PM
No offense to JETS, but someone else who has had experience running these things should run it. After JETS has gone through the process, then he will be experienced enough to run his own.

06-04-2007, 11:00 PM

Barry Sanders RB
Fantastic selection! Total stats are not what makes a football player complete... it's more dominance in his era and overall playing ability. Sanders dominated his era. And guys: Please don't just pick based on stats... there's a certain stat-based RB that shouldn't be drafted because of terrible ypc's, a fantastic supporting cast, and such... and I guarantee a bashing of the pick by me if you make it. :)

I select 2 high character, high motor, and highly likable guys that would be great team leaders for their respective sides of the ball. Their high character, intelligence, and work ethnic would rub off on the rest of my team. Oh yea... they were both pretty good at football too.

I select, Mike Singletary, ILB, Chicago Bears

Next to the best Defensvie player in the game (Lawrence Taylor), Mike Singletary, the greatest linebacker in the game should do great in one of the middle 3-4 ILB spots.

Okay, I'll take one of the best cornerbacks of all time then...

Dick "Night Train" Lane, CB
http://www.profootballhof.com/assets/story_image/lane013002kp.jpg

If we are judging players by how they dominated their era, Night Train may have been the best cornerback to ever play the game. Simply a beast at cornerback, who set records left and right. Was first or second team all-NFL his entire career, seven pro-bowls, and had 14 interceptions as a rookie. Aside from that he was a crushing tackler as well, giving me a shut-down corner as well as run support on the outsides.

Also a side-note to those running the 3-4 like I am...I have a feeling we'll draft more modern players, being as most of the players with the size needed to run some of these positions are modern players.

^Selected already

In an effort to build a beastly defensive front, I will select DT Merlin Olsen and DE Gino Marchetti.

Olsen was the eat up the blockers man of the Fearsome Four, and even Deacon Jones admits that he wouldn't have been the player he was without him. Marchetti was the best DE of the first 50 years of the NFL (even won the pre-merger All-DE award) and was known for his beastly pass rushing as well as fantastic run stopping moves.

Okay, I will take Junious "Buck" Buchanan, 3-4 DE
http://www.profootballhof.com/images/content/photos/1963buchanan.jpg

Buck was a HOF DT, but with his amazing size, 6-7 270 (especially for his day 270 was huge, not to mention his height), he would be a much better fit in my Defense as a 3-4 DE. He also had been clocked at 4.9 in the forty, and as fast as 10.2 in the 100, giving him size and speed. He was one of the top DT's of all time, and could be an even better 3-4 DE.

Okay, I will take LG Gene Upshaw..
http://img279.imageshack.us/img279/5472/upshawoak196719818bh.jpg
Upshaw teamed up with Art Shell to make one of the fiercest left-sides in the NFL's history. Now, teamed up with Jackie Slater he looks to be a force on opposing defenses. Even more then that, he was the first pure guard to make the hall of fame, and and has the leadership that can be dreamed of from an offensive linemen.

Okay, since its been almost a day again, I'm going to assume its skipped enough picks for me to be up.

In that case I'll take Yale Lary, S.
http://www.profootballhof.com/assets/hof/mug1272.jpg
Lary was an exceptional safety for the Lions, and was a great special teams player as well. His career was interrupted early on my military service as well, which means he could have had even more accomplishments.

I pick Orlando Pace RT
Terrible pick. He does not play RT, and read the rules.

This thing looks like it's slowly dying out... I don't think we'll be able to fight through it.

I thought the rules just said we had to state which position the player was playing at...as in RT or LT, SLB or WLB, not that we couldn't reposition players...

And you should probably do something to save it also. You're the one running it, you have to be the guy who takes charge.

I've tried PMing everyone where their picks were up, I tried adding a rule that you had to PM everyone right after you picked, it's just not working for whatever reason.

Yep, I did the same thing, and no one was responding. I guess this one is over. Sad to say.
