ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- The Washington Redskins (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/was/;_ylt=AhZQUVT4uXPeMyG4jwsYKSwdsLYF) signed veteran cornerback Jerametrius Butler (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5593/;_ylt=AoOyxrQ4dGCIlUv1klns1F0dsLYF) on Thursday.

Butler spent six years with the St. Louis Rams (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/stl/;_ylt=AuRVKF0TL0pAIRY66SWQQh0dsLYF), but missed the 2005 season with a knee injury and played sparingly after returning last year.

Butler, a fifth-round draft pick out of Kansas State in 2001, played in 63 games with 31 starts for the Rams. His best season was 2004, when he had five interceptions and 79 tackles.

The Redskins also released defensive back Chip Cox.

Expect a lot of corner blitz packages this year...

Didn't we sign him to like an offer sheet like 2-3 years ago but was restricted so the Rams matched.

Yeah I believe so, I remember that. But I mean really... How many corners do we have now? At least our nickel and dime packages should be good.

I'm still not happy with no attention to the DLine. I know that GWs defense runs around LB and DB play, but still, Daniels/Wynn could be upgraded and Griffen is runnin out of gas.

Yes. It was because of that matched contract offer (and the $2 million salary that was scheduled for this year) that the Rams released him, as well.

Hopefully he works out for you guys. The guy's barely seen the field in two years now, who knows if he's the same player he was in '03 and '04.
