The course is supposed to be extremely difficult, with winning scores expected to be around 5-10 over par... I'm going with the sleeper pick of Zach Johnson.

Can Johnson be a sleeper?

With the new course (I'll butcher the spelling) and the difficult sand bunker, the 500+ yard 5 hole is going to be a difficult challenge. Past results says pick Tiger and nothing will go wrong.

I'll take Padraig Harrington.

Payne Stewart . . . is that in bad taste?

There is actually a Payne-Stewart intersection in the city I live in... And I live in New Mexico. I wonder why...

There's supposed to be a 238 yard par 3. That's ridiculous.

I'll take Tiger, its the safe thing to do.

Singh I think might be a major contender this weekend though

I don't know if you can call him a sleeper but David Toms. If he keeps it in the fairway and gets the putter working I think he can contend. Last time they held the Us Open at Oakmont, the players that played the best were great putters and players with great ball striking ability, So as long as the course is, If you can stay out of trouble you should be able to contend.

Monty Ftw!!!

It seems that Monty is always in the mix in the final day, maybe this will be the week he gets his first well deserved major. He almost won it 94' when the Open was last in Oakmont.

My bad: I'll go with the one who is nominated unexpectedly, without previously having been discussed or considered as a likely choice. Often a dark horse is selected as a compromise when other, more prominent candidates' factions cannot come to an agreement. This metaphoric expression originally alluded to an unknown horse winning a race and was so used in a novel by Benjamin Disraeli (The Young Duke, 1831): Tiger.

I hope Retief Goosen gets it,

Thats my pick. Retief doesn't wow people by the way he plays but he doesn't make many mistakes either and on a course as difficult as Oakmont the amount of mistakes that players will be able to get away with is low.

I'm going Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk, or Retief Goosen. Furyk and Goosen can keep the ball straight and putt very well so which is what you'll need to do on this course.

He was being sarcastic.

I'll root for Phil, but I don't think he'll win.

Something tells me one of the no-names will win it.

Which is exactly why Mickleson is gonna do terrible.

It's kind of fun watching all these pro's struggle on a golf course like this. It shows us that they are human. The cut line was at +10!!!!
