Most dynamic player in all of baseball. Not to mention he always puts a smile on his teammates faces. Did I mention he just turned 24, and is a threat to steal 100 bases and hit 20+ HR's? How bout the fact that he is a very good fielder? You get it.

With the fourth overall pick, I am proud to announce Prince Fielder as the newest Burglar.

http://www.theonion.com/content/files/images/Prince-Fielder-R.jpg

Prince is the greatest homerun hitter of all time...well maybe not exactly, but he's still damn good. Virtually perfect in every hitting category at a mere age of 24, Prince still manages to save room for top-notch, gold-glove potential fielding...and those donuts. Fielder will bat fourth for me, and will prove that he is the perfect player to build a franchise around.

http://cache.boston.com/bonzai-fba/Reuters_Photo/2005/07/11/1121081798_9540-1.jpg

This was a very tough choice. Ortiz at 31 years of age will hopefully have 4-6 more "power" years left in him. A player who can tie a game or win a game with one swing of the bat is quite rare. Ortiz is probably the most clutch player in the league. And even though he's 31, he can hit, period.

One we felt had the potential to be an ace but wasn't quite there yet and we were looking to come in and be the man from day one. The other guy were looking at we felt definately is already an ace like Danny, but he was a bit older. http://msnbcmedia3.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Art/COVER/060729/060729_utley_hmed_8p.hmedium.jpg

Rationale: It is widely known that Chase Utley is the best all-around 2B in the major leagues. He is one of only a few at his position in the league that can be a middle-of-the-order hitter. Working in the dynasty league format, Utley is still only 27, and he has improved his plate discipline, fielding range and competency, and base-running every season. He will hit third in our lineup and is another solid clubhouse leader to play alongside catching phenom Joe Mauer.

He has hit over.300 in 11 consecutive seasons, 30+ homers 5 out of the last 6 years and has won the AL Silver Slugger every year since he joined the Angels (3 years, going on 4). Vlad can hit conceivably any pitch into play and can hit a shoetop HR seemingly at ease. As if the "Vlad Zone" wasn't enough, he has an absolute cannon for an arm that will make runners trying for home stop in their tracks.

I'm glad he was able to make it this far. He's had Tommy John surgery and will be perfectly ready for next year. The reason the surgery doesn't concern me, is because it's rather routine now. People talk about Cole Hamels in a high sense, and he has had elbow problems as well. The difference? Cole Hamels ERA is in the 3.8 range, while Liriano dominated with his ERA being 2.77. Liriano has a high 90's fastball, good change and curve, and a dominating slider. Did I mention he is 23 and a lefty?

With my third round selection, I'll take CF Ichiro Suzuki

http://images.encarta.msn.com/xrefmedia/sharemed/targets/images/pho/0007f/0007fad8.jpg

This was a very tough decision for me, now is when the draft starts becoming hard. I was torn between two things, old age, and undeniable talent. My decision came down to my excuse that the old age would only apply towards veteran leadership. Ichiro, behind Reyes, is the second best lead-off hitter in baseball, and with a power guy like Fielder batting clean-up, Ichiro's extraordinary ability to get on base, and to score, will be a perfect compliment. At 33 years old, his age did scare me, but statistically, he appears to have gotten better with age the last three years and is on pace this year, for his best year yet. I'm very happy with a guy who can hit .350, steal 50, and score over 100 any day. I also forgot to mention, that in his 6 years as an MLB player, he has won a Gold Glove in ALL 6 of them, so yea, he's amazing in the field and has a cannon arm.

The Syracuse Nationals proudly select...

RHP Chris Young
http://www.princetonbasketball.com/images/chrisyoung.jpg

Chris has simply been dominant this year. He has a 2.08 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, allowed 8 runs in his last 10 games and only 3 HR's this year so far, which was a big problem for him last year (allowed 28 total). At 28 years old and in his 4th year in the majors, he doesn't have too much wear on him and should be able to pitch for at least another 5-7 years. Chris is an intimidating force at 6'10" and isn't afraid to go after guys. He strikes out alot of guys and has lowered his ERA every year he has been in the majors.

Carlos Beltran, CF

Rationale: Sticking with our model of selecting contact hitters with baserunning ability, defense, and clubhouse leadership, we have decided to add a multiple gold-glove winner in Carlos Beltran. Yes, he is a big name talent, but he will patrol the OF and hit second in our batting order in front of Chase Utley. We expect that Beltran will see a lot more fastballs with Utley's protection, and he will be able to use his plus speed to help our team. This selection was made based on need and our expectation that the NJ Informants would select him with one of their next picks. We felt the need to get the best remaining all-around CF onto our team.

http://images.usatoday.com/sports/_photos/2006/08/09/lackey.jpg

John Lackey, RHP, SP

Rationale: Having shored up the team's offensive philosphy and up-the-middle defense positions, we turn our attention to the pitching staff. We did not expect this kind of an amazing run on starting pitching, but we were happy to take hitters and grabbing players of value later on. John Lackey is one of the more underrated players in the game. He's an innings-eating workhorse, and he has traditionally struck out about 1 batter per inning throughout his career. At 6'6", he is a big guy, but he also fields well. He is not necessarily going to blow everyone away like a Santana or Hamels, but he's going to throw 200 innings the next 5-8 years, and his K's and BAA should remain consistent. We are happy to introduce our ace to the rest of the league.

With our main target getting drafted, I had many options to choose from. There were some hitters that were very tempting, and a few pitchers. But I decided to go with this young righty with electric stuff. He has pitched mainly out of the bullpen this year, but we feel he is ready for the rotation. With some more work with his control which will only get better with experience, we feel we have a very strong 1-2 punch with Matt Cain that will be pitching together for several years to come.

http://i.a.cnn.net/si/2006/writers/tom_verducci/10/25/world.series.game3/Chris.jpg

Carpenter, who has 5 solid pitches, which includes one of the best curves in baseball, is a flat out stud. 2005's NL Cy Young, who also finished third is 2006's Cy Award has clearly gotten better with age, and still has 5-7 years of aging left. Despite going on the 15-day IR this year, I am not worried at all about any long term effects and am excited to have a talented veteran like himself on my team. This ace, who has been the World Series winning Cardinals number 1 pitcher for the last three years, will be my number 2 pitcher.

This pick might be a surprise to a lot, especially with the previous 3 picks being starting pitching as well. Some might say that there were better picks available, and such, and some might be right, but I could care less as Garland is our guy. He has shown reliabilty and durability. Over the past two seasons or so, one half of a season aside, Jon Garland has shown that he has finally put it together. He is in his prime at the age of of 28-9, and would be a welcomed addition to the rotation. He might not have the best stuff and be considered more of a 2 or 3, but he is a pitcher and knows how to get people out.

With my 6th Round pick, I will take RHP John Maine.

http://godsofsport.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/10/John%20Maine.jpg

Say what you want, this is easily one of the steals of the draft. John Maine, the same John Maine who absolutely dominated the playoffs last year, forcing a game 7 against the Cardinals, is having an equally extraordinary year this year. He started off the year 5-0 and after hitting a bit of a rough patch, the 26 year old ace is back to a dominant form, posing an impressive 8-4 record with an ERA of 2.87 (that's good enough to give him 9th in the MLB) and a minute .220 oppenent's batting average (that gives him 10th in the MLB). So, that being said, assuming that some guy named Jake Peavy was never born, Maine would easily be in contention for the Cy Young award...in only his first full year. Maine, who, is arguably the Mets number 1 pitcher, will be my number three pitcher, and with him getting me 6-7 scorless innings in almost all of his outings, I'd say I hit the jackpot for a number 3 pitcher. Not to mention he's got what, 10+ years of this ahead of him?

and Catcher Jorge Posada

Lee is still an elite fielder who is versitile and play corner infield and outfield if need be. His AVG. and OB% are very high, and he still knocks in runs. Although 31, the only part of his game that he seems to be losing is his power. He can play at a high level for 5-7 more years, and could be rested/DH'ed periodically for rests.

Posada is a top catcher in the league. If you think his performance is decreasing, check his stats. He's got possibly 2 years left in him. He is an expert at calling games, which makes my talented rotation even better. Yea, he's old, but thats what bench players and prospects are for. http://mlb.mlb.com/images/2006/08/27/vRbYSnDI.jpg

I'm just saying right now, this was not a value pick, I didn't take him because he is the best available player. I took Putz because after him, I feel there is a BIG drop off in Closing talent. At age 30, Putz is still relatively young (compared to those remaining at least) and still has his best years ahead of him, contrary to most of the remaining closers who have their best years behind them or have major injury concerns. Putz has dominated his last two years with an extremely minute ERA and a very high strike out count. The reason I took a closer, was because being a Mets fan, I have seen the damage that the closer can do, if he's not good (****** Benitez) and thus, I am very happy to get the best one remaining and one of the best in the MLB.

We are super stoked to land Kinsler here. He has shown to be one of the brightest young second basemen in baseball. We feel he has only just begun to scratch his potential. http://i.a.cnn.net/si/2006/writers/jon_heyman/12/01/scoop.friday/p1.manny.ramirez.si.jpg

Manny Ramirez, LF

Rationale: After the recent selection debacle, the Unholy Alliance dips into its "roots" with an all-time great player, future HOF-er, and lynchpin to the batting order in Mr. Manny Ramirez. While he is a little kooky, we decided that our franchise Manny is an RBI machine, even at age 35. We believe that he has 3 years left playing LF and hitting in the #4 spot. With Beltran and Utley ahead of him, his RBI chances will be much better than he has seen in 2007. Manny is not a long-term answer for our team, and we will be sure to have an heir apparent ready to take over.

http://enrico.blogs.com/photos/uncategorized/shane_victorino_hr_1.jpg

"The Flyin' Hawaiian", Shane Victorino, RF

Rationale: Sticking with our "roots", but also looking at team need, we finish off our starting OF and add a much-needed leadoff hitter to our batting order. Victorino has the range of a CF, but we will play him in RF, like the Phillies are doing. Getting a RF with range was absolutely necessary because Carlos Beltran will have to shade towards LF to help account for Manny Ramirez's shortcomings. Presently, Victorino is a #2 hitter, but he has the capacity to get on base much more often than he is right now. We believe that with a different managerial presence and a renewed focus on OBP, Victorino can become a terror for opposing teams. He stands only 5'9", so he should draw more walks. He hits well from both sides of the plate. His speed is also unquestioned. As the rest of you will find out soon enough, speed kills...

Stressing out that he wouldn't reach us here. "The Greek God of Walks" finally lived up to his ballyhooed potential in 2006. Youkilis posted an impressive .381 OBP, and his .810 OPS ranked higher than that of such luminaries as Ichiro Suzuki, Eric Chavez, and Ivan Rodriguez. Youkilis even showed some pop, hitting a better-than-expected 13 home runs from the leadoff spot. Youkilis is a flat out stud with a long successful Major League future ahead of him. He recently established the Red Sox club record by playing in his 120th errorless game at first base.

This completes our infield of Youkilis - Kinsler - Hardy - Braun. Possibly the best young infield assembled.

He's a veteran at the age of 33, Helton is still a major threat. While Helton isn't the 30-40 HR threat he once was, he still provides a guy who will put up a .320 AVG and a .410+ OBP. The fact that doesn't have a ton of power, makes his age little to no concern. His ability to knock in runners is impressive, as shown by his career .348 AVG with RISP. He is also a top flight defender, just making 4 errors all of last season.

SP Tim Hudson

http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/050228/050228_hudson_braves_vmed12p.widec.jpg

Tim is a veteran pitcher, who just knows how to go out there an get it done. Besides 2006, Tim has been a remarkably consistent pitcher. This is proven by his career 126-65 career record, and a career ERA of 3.52. We think that Tim and his sinker can remain highly consistent for the next 5-8 years.

[img]http://graphics.boston.com/bonzai-fba/Globe_Photo/2006/09/26/1159309683_7179.jpg[/imb]

Talk about an odd SS/2B combo..I'm not worried at all though, two of the best fielders at their position, they can easily work it out, and neither have attitudes that would prevent this. Pedroia is a great fielder and great at hitting for average. Overall a great player and young.

http://www.battersbox.ca/images/articles/20060905014253927_1.jpg
To be honest, at this pick we were targeting SS Derek Jeter. But with him getting taken, this player came to our attention. We were shocked to see him still available. With some more work with his K to BB ratio, we feel he can hit 25+ homers, bat .300+, and drive in close to, if not more, 100 runs a season. He can also steal around 20 bases a year. At only the age of 23, I feel we are set at 2B for many years to come.

http://weblog.live.advance.net/mtlogs/mlive_flintjournalextra/images/20061007tigers05.jpg

Carlos Guillen, SS

Rationale: We were looking to go SS with this pick. When Scorch took Rafael Furcal, we immediately went to our second option in Guillen. If you look at his stats, Guillen has been a top performer at the position when he has been healthy. He is approaching 32, but his range remains top notch. What's more, his bat and baserunning skills mesh perfectly with our team hitting philosphy. Guillen will hit 5th in our lineup to protect Manny. We expect him to play SS the next 2 years, then he will switch to 3B as his range starts to diminish.

We're very glad to get Magglio this late in the draft and he gives a veteran bat presence that we needed in out lineup. He'll hit 3rd or 4th in our lineup and be counted on to drive in over 120+ runs. After his couple of injury plauged years we feel he has now fully healthy and is capable of putting up great numbers in what is just past his prime.

With the 3rd Pick in the 10th Round, The Las Vegas Unholy Alliance Proudly Selects:

http://licey.com/contenidos/archivos/SANTANA,%20ERVIN-A.jpg

Ervin Santana, RHP, SP

Rationale: While taking 3 righties to start off the rotation is not always ideal, we made an exception in the case of young Ervin Santana. Only 24, Santana is in his second full year of starting. He has been hot and cold in 2007, but we attribute this more to the loss of Bud Black, his pitching coach, than anything else. Santana has an excellent 3-pitch repetoir, and he's still learning his craft. He has the potential to be another innings-eating workhorse, and, at 24, he can still grow and add a little velocity and bite. We want ES to work on his mechanics to drive the ball downward to get advantageous movement on his pitches. We are very happy to have Ervin Santana as our #3 SP. If he gets proper instruction and stays healthy, he could easily be a legit ace for our team.

Edgar Renteria is getting up there in age at 31-2, but I feel we got a steal this late at SS. I find this to be a huge steal, especially considering some of the pitchers who went before him in round 9 and 10. Zito has been struggling a bit this year with SF, but what pitcher wouldn't struggle on that team? He has one of the most dominant curve balls in baseball and is a proven winner. Although this former Cy Young has slowed up a bit he's still a terrific pitcher. Many say he is overrated, and he might be, simply because he's not worth the money he's getting, but from a purely talent level, he is amongst the best LHP's in baseball and at only 29 he will be in our team's plans for the next 8 or 9 years.

When teams were vying to sign Fernando, one scout said he would be the next Ted Williams. Now we don't expect him to be that good, but it would certainly be welcome. Fernando is only 18 and already rapidly going through the Mets farm system. When he makes it to the majors, .300+, 35+ HR's and 100+ RBI's are far from out of the question.

Ok, he is 38 years of age. He probaly only has 3 more years of playing at the level that he is right now. But that's fine, because after those 3 years, Fernando Martinez will be ready to take his spot. It's very hard to deny how good Ken has been this year. He is 4th in the MLB with 21 homers, and has a better better AVG than two of the three players ahead of him. We will keep him in RF like he is now, and he can still give us solid defense. We feel that Griffey can be .285 with 30+ HR guy for the next few years, until he hands the RF job over to Fernando.

http://www.minorleaguenews.com/graphics/baseball/Graphics/2006/08/15/FAB50/thumbs/17BillyButler.jpg

Billy Butler, DH/1B/OF

Rationale: After the "stunning" realization that we are, in fact, an AL team, the possibilities opened up for us with prospects and position players. Billy Butler is widely considered one of the top 10 hitting prospects in all of baseball, but his fielding is suspect at best. However, based on Baseball America reports, Butler is working hard on his fielding at both 1B and LF. He wants to be a better player all around, and he has the athleticism to play a corner OF spot. Given Manny Ramirez's age and perceived lack of skill in LF, we could plug Butler in on off days as Manny ages, or we could play him at DH or 1B, depending on the situation. We are also not sure if we will make Butler a prospect or a major leaguer. Just put him on our roster because he can flat out hit.

http://www.soxprospects.com/players/images/buchholz.clay.jpg
With this pick we are looking to the future. We feel we have one of, if not the best, starting pitching prospects in baseball. At the age of 22, Buchholz is about 2-3 years away from entering our rotation. We are glad to have someone with his type of talent in our system. With his ability to throw in the mid-high 90's with a good slider, curve, and 2-seamer, we feel he can be a dominant force. His numbers this year in AA show it as in 80.1 IP, he has 111 K and 19 BB to go along with a 1.79 ERA which is utterly outstanding!

Another 38 year old bat, and just like Griffey he is still potent. And just like Griffey has Fernando to back him up in 3 years, Sheff has Jay Bruce to back him up in 2-3 years. Gary is in a 3 way tie for 6th place in the lead in HR's, but he has a higher AVG than 5 of the people tied, or ahead of him. His bat is still lighting quick, and we are glad to have in our lineup for the next few years. While he is known to make comments from time to time, some players see it as him saying what others are scared to say. For example Carlos Guillen thanked Gary Sheffield for speaking out about Lations this year.

This was a really tough decision for me, between John Smoltz and Brad Hawpe, and then I realized...Hawpe was long gone.

Some might find this as a surprise, and it definitely is, John Smoltz is fricken 40 years old..how much left does he have in him? But with the likes of people such as Gary Sheffield, Ken Griffey Jr. and Manny Ramirez, three elder players...all hitters, already selected, it gives me confidence that Smoltz will be a great addition. John Smoltz is 40 years old, yet he is still absolutely dominating batters, still a tremendous pitcher, Smoltz is fantastic in all aspects. The former Cy Young still has plenty of talent and is showing no signs of retiring or letting up in general. With an very young starting pitching line-up, featuring a 26 year old #1 pitcher, all I will need is for Smoltz to give me 1-2 more top notch years, and I have no doubt that he will. Not to mention his flexibility, the only pitcher ever to win 200 games and have 150 saves.

http://www.cantstopthebleeding.com/img/pie0417.jpg

With his speed and youth, we feel that he can be a contributing factor for our team for years to come. A season in the minors will only help in season this young man for a future outfield spot.

The Hungry Pandas select... RHP, Kevin Slowey

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f149/brickman08865/Slowey.jpg

I wanted to get out of this draft w/ either Garza or Slowey... I may be in the minority here but, I have Slowey ranked a little higher...so, i was happy to get him here.

http://www.goldpanners.com/Seasons/2000/pictures/2001_2000_Team/00T_08_garko-ryan.jpg

Ryan Garko

To be quite frank, we are lacking at 1B with no real plug to fit in. Ryan Garko may not be the best hitter ever, but he still is the best 1B on the board.

With my 13th round draft pick, I proudly select CL Billy Wagner.

http://i.a.cnn.net/si/2006/writers/aditi_kinkhabwala/05/17/better.half/p1_wagner.jpg
Even though he is 37, he can still bring it and be a top closer. We hope he can give us at least 2 more solid seasons as our closer. Plus, he's a lefty which always helps.

With our pick, the Las Vegas Unholy Alliance select: P Max Scherzer

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a77/dsanford/Missouri%20at%20Kansas/Scherzer2.jpg

In just his fifth professional start, Max struck out 11 over 5 shut out innings in his second start at AA. He projects to possibly join the Diamondbacks as soon as 2008, if not for a bullpen stretch late this year. Considering where we are in the draft, Max easily has one of the most electric arms available.

He is only 25, and one of the better set men. He has a high 90's FB and good off speed stuff to complement it. Working as a setup man for the D'Backs this year, he has and ERA of 2.03. We are proud to have him setting up Cordero for a long time.

It helped that just last night, the kid threw 5 innings of no-hit ball striking out 9. great young talent who will just improve in the minors, and in about 2 years, will take over Andy Pettitte's spot
