Gotta love that a surfer and someone who hasn't even won a single race made the bracket over Albert Pujols and Tim Duncan. I truly hate ESPN.

Yeah it's amazing that they felt someone who hasn't even won a single race is a better athlete than Albert Pujols or Tim Duncan.

Not that I need another reason to hate ESPN, but this isn't measuring who is the better athlete, it's measuring who is more in the public eye and talked about.

They aren't talking about athletic ability at all. "Who's now" refers to who is getting the most attention--the biggest media pull. Like it or not, everytime Danica is on the track, she is the star attraction. She is the highlight whether she wins (not that it has happened, but just imagine it) or fails to even finish. Think Anna Kournikova, she was never a great tennis player, but she is a great celebrity. Albert Pujols is so "Now" that he didn't even win in the fan voting for the All-Star game.

Note that it also considers off field buzz... which Duncan has none of. Altho I do agree he should be up there nonetheless. How Nadal isn't up there appalls me. Also, where is Henry of France (soccer). How on earth is Federer a 2 seed.

Danic hasn't won a single race. Her being the most covered person in her sport would be like the Devil Rays being the most popular team in baseball. It makes no sense at all. This is supposed to measure on the field success and off the field popularity? No amount of popularity can overshadow how terrible Danica is at her sport. As for Pujols he's far and away the best player in baseball. He's having the best start to a career since Ted Williams while averaging 43 homers, 129 RBI's, and a .330 average a season.

Kelly Slater is greater to surfing than Micheal Jordan is to basketball, Tiger Woods is to golf, whatever else you want to throw out there. Also surfers are every bit athletic as athletes from major sports. Try just paddling out in a good break some time.

Extreme sports get no love. Shaun White a 5 seed, even though he has 11 x games gold medals and did it in 2 different sports.

SC is just looking for time to fill since the only main sport in progress right now is MLB. It's complete ********.

What is Slater's net worth?

This thing is a joke. They were discussing Leinart and they're saying "he's been linked with Paris Hilton and Britney Spears." And I was trying to figure out if that was a positive or a negative.

yeah Shaun White has a lot of publicity and wins which would put him up there in this competition. Personally I think there are several better snowboarders, even though he is the best competition rider. He does fit the criteria for this competition pretty good though.

yeah, I definitely am not saying he should win this, because outside of surfing he doesn't have the recognition. Based on his performance I do think he should be involved though. Even if he is bumped out in the first round I can understand that.
Edit: oh and you would probably be surprised how much he is worth.

Dude, ESPN has done plenty of segments and website things on who is the greatest athlete and all that kind of stuff. This is just a different bracket measuring COMPLETELY different things. Take it for what it's worth, and if you want the greatest athlete or something, look it up on the site. You'll find something.

I am glad Ben Askren is up for college athlete of the year, that is one thing I like about ESPN
I find the brackets useless.
We all know the winner will be decided between Tiger and Lebron.
What's the point of including guys like Leinart?

I agree with you about Danica Patrick. She hasn't won a race since her Go-Kart days which were about 6-7 years ago. I, know of course, there is the off-field publicity but you might as well have thrown in Michelle Wie as they are about at the equivalent off off-field buzz.

More ratings, therefore, more money in a (very) indirect way.

Rich Eisen - Stuart Scott
Legendary combo. That's when Stu Scott was cool and would shout "RAUUUUULLLL MONNNNNNDESI!" which always put a smile on my 2nd grade face.
Charley Steiner? Great.
Kenny Mayne and Dan Patrick were hilarious too.
Honestly, I know I was alone, but I really like 50 States in 50 Days. Of course, I hated hearing "Open Road" during every commercial break but it was cool to me. I know I am alone.

John Anderson went to mizzou, which is where i go to school. At our bball game against KU he and the guy that won dream job (another mizzou alum) sat in the student section right next to me. Me and my friend asked him about all the classic anchors and why they left and all he had to say was that no one liked Rich Eisen. Long story short i thought it was funny.

I disagree. Peyton, Kobe, ARod vs. TO in the first round (good match-up). There are lots of opportunities.
