The answer is no.

If it's your first time drinking, take it slow. It usually takes a while to hit you so don't go crazy.

Happy Birthday!

Also, drink beer. It's better. ;)

If this is your first time drinking, here's a tip for you (trust me... I wouldn't lie):

Make sure you get a real nice buzz off of beer before you start taking shots... It's the only way you won't get sick!

Have a nice birthday! ;)

When I first started drinking I found that drinking liquor was alot better. It takes time to get used to the taste of beer and to like it. If I we're you i'd go with Grey Goose and OJ which not only tastes amazing the first time but it will get you drunk.

TPFKA#1SaintsFan

bud/coors light. unless you're one in like, 30,000 people, you won't like most other beers.

Uh, did you get confused or something? I mean, I could go pee in a cup and dilute it with water, if that's the taste you look for in a beer...

in denver, coors kills everything else. bud is awful here (though i drank a lot of it in other areas). and miller is putrid no matter what. realistically, natty light or keystone light is probably the easiest "first timer" beer, given that they're both so watered down.

I agree with you about Miller, but Coors is even worse than Miller IMO. Out of the "big 3" Bud Light is far and away the best. For a first timer, I'd recommend a Michelob Light.

i don't do clubs, almost as a rule.

downtown tavern isn't bad if you can handle the jackass guys. lots of girls there. lodo's is somewhat the same. both have dancing. sports column usually isn't bad. plenty of empty space if you need a break, but a pretty cool deck. pour house isn't bad, but it's a lot smaller and generally more crowded. if you get out of lodo, there's usually better bars.

alright

duckseason

Everybody's gonna make their own choices, but I wish you guy's hadn't steered this guy down the piss path. No reason for that. Piss water does not go down easier or more pleasantly just because it's piss water. The opposite is true. If you're going to introduce somebody to the world of Sushi, you need to give them the best available. Anything less than fresh will be nasty, and it will take the person quite awhile before they decide to try it again, if ever. And who knows, maybe they'll actually acquire a taste for funky Sushi, which might be the worst possible outcome.

Same thing with everything. You want to turn someone on to the game of baseball, it might be a good idea to take him to a live game, rather than just watching one on TV. Give them the real thing. Overload their senses with everything that's good about whatever you're exposing them to. And at the same time, show them what's bad. In other words, take what you've learned, and pass it on. No need for a guy to wade through a bunch of crap beers just because most people did.

There are hundreds upon hundreds of high quality craft brews that go down much easier than your average macro lager. The first thing I might do, is try to get a sense for a person's food likes and dislikes. Just by finding out what a guy likes to eat, you can easily recommend a great beer that would probably suit that person just fine. Most people experience an averse initial reaction to strong hop flavor in beer, but not everybody. So as a general rule, it's a good idea to stay away from the IPA's when introducing somebody to the world of artisanal beer.

But that's just one style among hundreds. You want to introduce somebody to dark beer? No problem. There are plenty highly quaffable porters out there. No need to jump straight into the stouts. Anchor Porter would be ideal. Cheap, very good, and absolutely inoffensive to the virgin palate. There are many others though. I wouldn't recommend anything hoppier than a pale ale. Any and all amber ales I've tried would be more than suitable for a first time drinker. Seeing as you're from Colorado, I'd suggest Great Divide's St Bridget's Porter, Ridgeline Amber, or Samurai Blonde. New Belgium's Fat Tire is loved by many a beginning drinker. Avery offers a pale ale, porter, brown ale and a witbier that would be more than suitable. Many of the Flying Dog beers would be perfect beginner beers as well. Hell, you can even go the macro route and still find a great beginner beer. Coors' very own take on a witbier- Blue Moon. And I'm just mentioning brews from your home state. There are many others in said state, and thousands across the nation.

A guy from Colorado should not be drinking macro swill. Coors be damned. Far too many great choices out there to stick yourself with something nasty like Keystone. This is why so many people hate seafood. Because their mom served them up fish sticks with a crappy tartar sauce because it's packaged and marketed as kid-food. Treat those same kids to some fresh fish and chips with a splash of malt vinegar/fresh lemon or homemade tartar sauce, and they will usually love it. And like I said, the saddest part is that some kids actually acquire a taste for the frozen fish sticks. And just because somebody doesn't like fresh Salmon doesn't mean they won't like fresh Tuna or Trout or oysters or shrimp. Same thing with the great beers. There is a great beer out there for everyone. You just have to find it. If that beer is a macro lager, then you're a fish stick kid who needs to go fishing.

What you really should do, is go buy a few keystone lights and a high quality craft beer at the same time. Pour yourself a glass of each. It'll be the last time you ever purchase macro swill again. Well, maybe not. But at least you'll know just how crappy it truly is if you do decide to buy it, for whatever reason-such as lack of funds. You get my point though.

Duckseason, ever try a beer called "Wee Willy"? It's a buck-a-beer I hadn't seen before and it's supposedly a Scottish-style dark beer.

http://www.beer.trash.net/img/beers/1753.jpg

It retails for $26.40 (cheapest price allowed in Ontario) for 24. As you know, I'm mostly confined to buck-a-beers so I was just wondering you had tried this and what you thought of it.

Of course, anybody else is welcome to reply as well. :)

No I haven't. But I just looked it up. If I see it, I'll give it a try and then blame you if I don't like it. haha. Actually, the only Scottish style beer I remember trying is the Alesmith Wee Heavy. And I loved it. I want to try more like it, but never see much on the shelves. Dude, Ontario sounds like it sucks. There's a ton of good beers out here for $6-7 a sixer. Yup, lowest legal price for beer here is $1/beer (without deposit).

I'm looking for something a bit different than a typical buck-a-beer (something with some flavour) so I thought this looked interesting. It looks like it's brewed by Lakeport which can't be a good sign. ;)
