LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Bears continued to sign their draft picks at a rapid rate Tuesday, inking first-round selection Greg Olsen to a five-year contract. Terms were not disclosed.

The 31st overall pick in the draft, Olsen is the first of the top 64 selections to sign a deal. The former Miami star is also the eighth of nine Bears draft picks to agree to terms, leaving second-round pick Dan Bazuin as the only unsigned member of Chicago’s 2007 draft class.

The deal was finalized Tuesday afternoon during a meeting at Halas Hall that included Bears lead negotiator Cliff Stein and Olsen’s agents, brothers Drew and Jason Rosenhaus.

“We’re real excited,” said general manager Jerry Angelo. “When we drafted Greg, we did have some preliminary talks with Drew about wanting to consummate a deal later on at about this time. He felt that that would be a possibility.

“They’re never easy to do, but it’s a testament to them honoring their word and giving it their best effort. We’re real happy that we were able to pound something out. Obviously there’s a little pinching on both sides, but usually that’s what it takes to get a good deal. I know they’re very happy about it and we feel the same way.”

Wow, I never thought somebody represented by Rosenhaus would be the first to sign.

Yeah but the Bears have been on a signing rampage. Only our second rounder to go. Other than Briggs, Rosenhause and Angelo have had pretty fair negotiations.

Just our 2nd rounder to go... Just like last year, the Bears will have all their picks signed before some teams even get started.

We probably should get a seperate thread for all the rookie signings like we had last year.

this signing is worthy of it's own thread.

Because it is the first, or because you're a Bears fan?

It is a Rosenhaus client being the first 1st or 2nd round pick getting signed. Stuff like this doesn't happen every year.

Greg Olsen is going to be a big help to Rex Grossman and Cedric Benson. Bears got great value and the Packers should have taken this kid at 16.

Greg Olsen because he's being represented by Drew Rosenhaus.

You certainly didn't, lol.

I'm going to create a rookie signings thread. Do not make a new thread for all of the 1st Round signings.

Post all of your team's rookie signings in here (with a link that is).

Greg Olsen is the only 1st or 2nd Round pick to sign up to this point.

Will you allow us to keep this open?

Rosenhaus only makes the news when he's representing a player already under contract. With them long nasty holdouts are the norm,. Interesting how with Samuel no one is mentioning his agent and only blaming him, but if his agent were Rosenhaus everyone would be attacking him.

Rosenhaus has a history of holdouts and that is what he specializes in. He's also by far the most notorious NFL agent.

When you said it before I asked you and never got a response, which of his rookies have held out before? I don't recall his rookies having problems in the past.

Why should we have taken him at 16? Because Franks was injured 2 years ago and was used primarily as a blocker last season? I have no doubt that he will do fine in Chicago, but we have more pressing needs than a receiving TE. If anything, we should have taken Vernon Davis back in 2006.
