What do you think the odds of seeing a high profile RB transferring this year? I'd say its pretty good because there is a huge logjam and I can't imagine a position change seeing how stacked they are all over. Wouldn't shock me to see Mark Sanchez transfer either since I feel he's going to be passed over by Mitch Mustain.

LOL. Sorry. I don't see Mustain displacing Sanchez as the QB for '08. For many reasons. The first being that Sanchez will have been in the system for 4 years by then. The USC Pro Style Offense does take time to grasp properly, and Mark will have complete understanding of it by then. Carroll will likely feel more comfortable with Sanchez running the offense.

The second reason why he won't transfer is b/c it doesn't make sense for him to do so. If he transfers this year, he'll have to sit out next year, and having burned his redshirt, he'll only have one year to play at that new school. So it'd be better of for him to stay b/c he has a really good chance for playing 2 years here, and what better place to play QB?

As for the RB situation, we currently have 10 RB's. After this year, Washington, Reed and Dennis will graduate leaving us with 7 RB's.

Moody
Gable
Johnson
Bradford
Green
Tyler
McKnight

I see Bradford panning out as the big RB, and Green eventually transferring. I think Moody won't start this year and by next year should transfer if he doesn't get the starting job. Johnson will leave if he doesn't make an impact this year. Gable I see playing significant minutes but eventually not being enough of an impact player to start over Tyler and McKnight.

So I see Tyler, McKnight and Bradford ultimately being the RB's for the the conceivable future.

Basically he's talking about how "tough" he's schedule is and how we just have a weak schedule. He's a moron hopfully we do play LSU that way we give them a pounding like we did Oklahoma. Did he forget that we have whooped up on Arkansas twice; (also in Basketball :D) This dude is just jealous that we won back-to-back something that couldn't do. Fight On SC!

Elway, can you tell us more about what you saw in Barkley? Is his size legit (6'3 listed, but I think he can grow into 6'4/6'5). Also, what do you think of his mechanics, arm strength, accuracy?

Is it too early to start talking about OSU vs. USC in 2008? I'd like to hear a bit about what USC will have coming back.

As far as the Buckeyes are concerned, 2007's young offense should return 10 starters, losing only RT Kirk Barton. RB Chris Wells will be a junior and a Heisman candidate and the left side of the line with Alex Boone and Steve Rehring will be huge and going into their 3rd year starting. All the WRs will be back and Robiskie, Hartline and Small should be a very good trio. Boeckman should be the returning starter at QB and will be 24 by next year. He should at least be solid.

The 2008 defense could be amazing, but there is the potential for early entries to really hurt. There is only one likely senior starter on D this year (Larry Grant) so there is the potential that 10 starters could return from what should be an outstanding defense this year. However, DE Vernon Gholston, LB James Laurinaitis and CB Malcolm Jenkins are all guys who could leave early. Getting 1 or 2 of those guys to come back could be the key.

I'd say Gholston and Jenkins will declare, but Laurinaitis will not. Just a hunch. Gholston is NFL ready now. The guy is a freak. But OSU just reloads on defense. Who loses AJ Hawk and replaces him with another very good LB?

Michigan football obviously isn't Texas or Florida, but it's pretty decent. Schools such as Birmingham Brother Rice, Orchard Lake St. Mary, Detroit Country Day and a handful of others are absolute powers. There are top teams from top to bottom in the classes. Even in the lower levels, there are powers such as Menominee (small UP town, outscored playoff opponents 207-6, starting defense gave up 21 points all year, and played some of the best teams in Wisconsin and Minnesota because local teams fear them) could make a run in any state. There is always talent in Michigan, but it's probably behind Florida, California, Texas, Illinois, South Carolina, Georgia and Pennsylvania, as well as some other southern states. I would certainly put Michigan in the top half of high school talent.

Yeah but there was no Turner and no Chauncey Washington. that made a big difference on the offense. Carroll also only called like 4 plays. I think it was because he didn't want to show too much of his offense to Nebraska and that is very smart. Another thing, SC always seems to come to play when they know its a big game (with the exception of UCLA last year) so i think everyone will be pretty fired up to be there.

A Field goal? did you see Nebraska against Wake Forest last week? they looked pretty weak. Keller seems to make some bad throws and the defense was less than impressive. Lucky should get pretty shutdown against the Trojan defense. I really think the Trojans will leave Lincoln with a two touchdown lead in the very worst case scenario. I think SC will just plan their whole defense around pressuring Sam Keller.

Lucky should get pretty shutdown against the Trojan defense. I really think the Trojans will leave Lincoln with a two touchdown lead in the very worst case scenario. I think SC will just plan their whole defense around pressuring Sam Keller.

That game was played in Wake wasnt it?

yeah, but Nebraska should have still won that one more comfortably than they did. Wake had a backup QB in and still had two chances to seal the deal with a win but the QB made a few dumb mistakes under pressure

Deep at WR, but no big play threats. Frantz Hardy would be the only big play threat, but who the heck knows if he is going to catch the pass first.

eh, wouldn't matter, usc didn't give up a touchdown of more than 30 yards all of last season, except against michigan (i think).

They still went on the road and beat one of the best teams in the ACC. Im not saying Nebaska is gonna win. I just think its going to be a very close game.

The thing I find funny is how people are quick to jump on Nebraska as if they played so horribly. If anything, that should be a scary thing to anyone. They went to Winston-Salem, beat the ACC Champs who return 15 starters from last years squad. Wake didn't lose that much overall talent from last year as most assume.

People will also be quick to bring up Riley Skinner -- well here is a hint, Hodges was ahead of Riley last year on the depth chart. Hodges was actually the #2 QB when Ben Mauk went down. Unfortunately for Hodges, he had a bum shoulder, so Riley got the call and never looked back. Heck, if you had the opinion of Wake fans and any other fan after the BC game, Hodges was a damm good QB. He only became a bum after facing Nebraska.

But I'm really loving the chest thumping and over confident Trojans. I'll let them have at it, because they deserve to brag a bit after the whoopin' they put on us last year. But if they come into Lincoln and expect Nebraska just to lay down and hand one to them, they are in for a very rude awakening.

i dont expect nebraska to hand anything away. i think it will be relatively close in the first half and the USC will pull away after half time

That is just the thing. If you really want to defeat Nebraska on Saturday, you need to beat us from the get go. You are going into Lincoln, for a night game, with the #1 team in the country coming in. Needless to say, that place is going to be NUTS! If you give those boys the thought they can play with the Trojans, while allowing the fans to believe as well, it will be a close game throughout.

The other big thing, you are not going to wear on our defensive line. We rotate about 5-6 men at DT, while we rotate 4-5 DE's as well. Our new DL coach (Buddy Wyatt) believes heavily in constant rotation on the defensive front. That isn't even mentioning on 3rd down passing situations when we go with our 30 package that only goes with 1 DE (most of the time, it is Clayton Sievers) while we use 6 LB's. Our MLB lines up at the NT position and Octavien moves up to the rush end spot.

Basically, you are only going to wear out our defensive unit if our offense never sees the field.

You are entitled to your opinion by all means but I just don't think Nebraska has the defense to stop SC and i really see Nebraska's run game getting shutdown. I'm taking the Trojans in a 20 pt victory

Now that is a different story. You have the offensive fire power to beat up on us, without a doubt. But I'm just going off of your earlier posts where you said you would wear us down, then defeat us. That just isn't going to happen.

I don't have my Big Red shades on enough to say I expect a win, because matchup wise, we should get beat. But if your players come into Lincoln with the mindset your fans have gotten, they WILL get beaten.

Great game. The OL completely dominated. Stafon exploded. I don't know why Nebraska started running so much, but that's when our D took over. Our passing game will improve. Mmmmm.

i think booty had a good game even though the stats don't show it. There were way too many drops from the receivers, including PT. These guys don't have hands like DJ and steve smith had.

I could've ran thru some of those holes Stafon had. Kris O'Dowd is a man beast. Ndamukong Suh was basically the only defensive lineman who showed he had a pulse last night, and O'Dowd was giving him heck last night.

Their offensive line kicked the dog out of us from the get go.

Of course, when our front 7 actually got a hand on Stafon and company, they looked like they were waving them by, asking them how they were enjoying Lincoln as well with their arm tackles.

i heard it was a "possible" groin pull. Don't put any stock in that, though, maybe the coaching staff just wanted to keep a steady flow?

What a sad sad day. I'll get over it though. Booty made very bad mistakes, and although i've been defending him to a lot of people on the SC boards I might have to agree that it's time to start sanchez.

Chauncey Washington is not a starting running back. We needed Stafon in that game. There's still no excuse though, we shouldve been able to win with a second/third stringers.

I've lost faith in Patrick Turner. He really cannot hold onto the ball. As a quote from someone on the SC boards "thank you patrick turner for costing us our chance at Desean Jackson"

David Ausberry, Usc's supposed "best" wr, is none existent.

The defense actually had a pretty good game, it was the offense that struggled.

So though, we're probably playing for the rose bowl now, i just have two words to say.

fight on.

Booty broke his finger in the 2nd quarter, he tried to fight through it and it was stupid of the coaching staff to leave him out there. They saw him struggling and they still left him out there, does that say how they feel about Sanchez? Who knows, whatever. We were missing 2/5 OL, Stafon and Gable...but we still should have dominated this game, pathetic performance all around.
