If you could have a Junior or Senior in college this year, on your pro team, who would you want? Simple question...

For Browns I would have to say McFadden would help us the most.

draftguru151
07-06-2007, 08:34 PM
Probably Kenny Phillips. Sam Baker is right behind him but I think a safety like Phillips is more rare than an OT like Baker.

Bills: I would say dan conner or keith rivers.... just so we could make our linebacking core a little more solid

Jake Long

D'Brick, Mangold and Long = Nasty

I would say Calasis Campbell for the Titans. We haven't had a great pass rushing DE since Kearse left us. So its either him or Antione Cason.

Mr. Stiller
07-06-2007, 10:35 PM
Steelers would be tough.

I'd be between..

Ryan Clady / Sam Baker

or

Derrick Harvey / Tommy Blake

I think those are the 4 guys we could use the most.

Would have to be Kenny Phillips for SD, IMO. Safety was the biggest need going into the draft this year, and although I like what Weddle may do, Phillips would be a better option then him for the season, assuming Hart would't start. Phillips all the way.

SuperMcGee
07-06-2007, 11:39 PM
I'd go Jake Long for the Bills. Then Long-Peters could be both one of the best and most hilarious tackle tandems in the league.

Jake Long, OT, Michigan

How about Brian Brohm unless you really are sold on T.Smith?

LT is probably the best way for you guys to go however.

Glenn Dorsey
My thoughts exactly, Dam. I really think the best way to implement the base Cover 2/Tampa 2 defense is with two run-stuffing DTs to free up the LBs and protect the pass-rushing DEs some, and studs like Dorsey who can play the run well and additionally pressure the pocket - similar to Tommie Harris - are few and far between.

I can't pick just one so I will give 3 players I would love to have for the Chiefs:

OT Barry Richardson, Clemson
CB Antoine Cason, Arizona
DT Glenn Dorsey, LSU

Saints-Dorsey easily.

We need to get younger at DT and he's the best DT in the country.

For the Eagles, I'd love to have Kenny Phillips or any of the top linebackers, such as Connor, Maualuga, Rivers, Adibi, Hall etc... Imagine Brian Dawkins on one side and Phillips on the other...:) Excuse me, I have to go clean up the drool on my keyboard ;)

It's a hard question for the Patriots. We pretty much have everything. But with Samuel probably moving on at the end of the year, probably Cason.

mqtirishfan
07-07-2007, 05:14 PM
For the Packers, I'd go with either Calais Campbell or Kenny Phillips. Campbell could go opposite Kampman and form a dominant DE duo and Phillips would just be a star at safety to replace Manuel.

LarryJohnson27
07-07-2007, 05:22 PM
Sam Baker for the Chiefs. LT is our biggest need, and he looks to be a better fit at LT then Long.

ATLDirtyBirds

Long or Baker for ATL

BamaFalcon59
07-07-2007, 06:39 PM
I'm looking at it as having the number 1 pick, and I don't view any of the OT as number 1 material atm. Phillips is an amazing player and would help a ton, be it at SS, FS, or as a nickle. But a safety at 1 is unlikely. So, I would have to go with Calais Campbell or maybe Darren McFadden. Probably Campbell. Abraham is injury prone and nearing 30, he could be Hartwell 2.0. And having Jamaal Anderson and Campbell would be the sickest thing I have ever seen.

You don't just need run stuffing DT's, you need pass rushing DT's that can move. You don't just want a refrigerator clogging up space. Generally in Cover 2, you have limited pass rushers (no blitz) so all DL need to get to the QB.

For the 49ers defense Phillips, FS is by far the biggest need on defense at this point...assuming that Lawson, Willis and Banta Cain develop like expected.

For offense Desean Jackson - 49ers are still lacking a big play wr.

Glenn Dorsey or Rey Maualuga for the Broncos.

I didn't think it needed to be clarified, but yes, I would seek reasonably athletic tackles who can play against the run well instead of man mountains who would theoretically stand their ground and little else (and in all likelihood could only contribute on two downs).

However, equipping nothing more than one-gap pass-rushing penetrators inside is what leads to the defense's susceptibility against the run imo, and that's more than documented. If the Miinnesota Vikings last year had anything close to an approximation of the defensive end pass rush capability that Tampa had 5 years ago or that Indy and Chicago have now, that defense manned by Pat Williams and Kevin Williams inside would have been a stellar example of what I'm talking about.

I absolutely fail to see the point of quick, instinctive linebackers who are undersized in almost every case, when they are being gobbled up by offensive lineman. Courtesy of tackles inside who fail to protect them and are sieves for the run more often than not. And it doesn't matter if the linebackers can play coverage well, that's for naught if the defense isn't able to stop the run.

I couldn't give a flying fig if Quinn Pitcock gets 5 sacks for the Colts this year, I'm much more interested with respect to his contribution as an athletic tackle who can play the run well. Hence why I liked the pick a good deal, for Pitcock to hopefully play alongside Booger. The Colts still need one more tackle, I think, and I really like the depth of the 08 class to potentially address that. Glenn Dorsey is just wishful thinking, of course.

You guys really screwed yourselves with acquiring Moss from the Raiders. He is a liability out there, you really need some receivers. You'll see how he doesn't go after the ball anymore,he is afraid of contact and he doesen't even get in the way of anybody in the running game

For the Vikings it would depend on how the season went. If Jackson crashes and burns then Brohm or Woodson.

Otherwise I would think Phillips or Campbell (depending on how some of the young DE's like James play this season.)

rainbeaukid2
07-10-2007, 03:07 PM
49ers: probably kenny phillips at this point cuz FS is the only place we really don't have a player for the defense, either him or desean jackson, depending on how jason hill does this year. maybe cushing depending on how TBC and haralson do at WOLB

Don Vito
07-10-2007, 03:11 PM
For the Pats it would be between McFadden, Calais Campbell, Jake Long, Rey Maualuga, Kenny Phillips (B. Meriweather can play corner), Derrick Harvey, and Malcom Jenkins.

Between McFadden/Campbell/Maualuga/Phillips, my top 4, I'd take Rey because we need ILB help.

For the Bucs I'm thinking Brian Brohm or Glenn Dorsey. Brohm would obviously provide that option at quarterback the Bucs have lacked for years and Dorsey would provide that dominant force at tackle that would help free up Rice/Adams and let them do their thing.

I like Calais Campbell more then those two as a player more though, and the team needs an injection of talent at the DE position.

Manningham would be the replacement for Glenn or Owens.
