Jaguars victor.
Good
Running game. MJD has got it going on, FT had a sweet run.
Garrard. Continues to play efficient football. He's making Del Rio look like a genius.
Defense. Overall nice perfomance. They struggled early but put it together as the game went along.
Bad
Penalties. On both sides. I think the Texans may have been screwed on a call or two.
Ugly
Reggie Williams fumbilitis, Mo Williams facemask. Wassup wi' dat? C'mon now.

Same old Jaguars, my friends. Same old Jaguars.
Good
Game atmosphere. JMS was rockin'. For a quarter.
Paul Spicer and Mike Pete had good games.
Bad
Ugly
Garrard and Mo Drew injured. Just awful. Mo Drew apparently just tweaked, but Garrard could be out for awhile. Especially if it's high ankle.
Play Gray? No way. Backup QBs are supposed to come into a game and manufacture a win. Um, no.
Defense. TOP was bad. Brian Williams was Reggie Wayne's personal (insert noun of choice here). They could not get off the field.

If you're being serious: No. His shoulder is too bad to be a thrower. Besides, Gray is learned in the offense.

I was kind of serious. I think he would give you a better shot than Gray. Run the option with Jones. Now I'm just talking crazy though. Are you sure his shoulder is to bad to throw though?

Yeah. One of the biggest reasons he decided to enter the draft as a WR.

We'll know by noon tomorrow because of Del Rio's press conference.
I'm going on record with three games, thereby missing the road trip. It would be good to have him back for the Titans game, though.
Diagnosis on Garrard: 3-4 weeks. Potentially more.

I agree, I think he'll be back once the road trip is over. Also, this is the perfect chance to see what we have in Quinn. It's not really fair to judge what he did against Indy, our offense wasn't doing so hot even with Garrard.

I thought you guys might pull an upset till Garrad went down - that being said, It'll be interesting to see if you can win 2 of the next 3 without him. The team looks solid and very well rounded, but not sure what Quinn is capable of.

He's been a good preseason QB, but that's about it. The only game action he had was in the last game of last year where he played okay. I want to think that his bad perfomance was indicative of a lack of preparedness, but he is clearly a major step down from Garrard. The running game and the defense will have to do that much more in order to keep winning.

Good
Tha Dreadlocks. Rashean Mathis and Reggie Nelson both with good games and crucial plays.
Bad
Offensive penalties. Bad timing on the last two. And Tony Pashos is not my hero.
Ugly
Quinn Gray. Holy crap. Dude's INSANELY inaccurate. If Todd Bouman can pick up the offense, I think he should see some action. There's talk Garrard may play next week, but if he can't, I want me some Bouman.

this game is very important, i feel like the saints play into our hands because we can stop reggie with minimal help, he always bounces it out
I’ve got a lotta things to do tonight
I’m so sick of making lists
Of things I’ll never finish
I’ve lived here for the last 12 years
Since early 1995 all my **** has been in boxes
But if I had a little more time to kill
I’d settle every little stupid thing
Yeah you’d think that I would
But I’m too tired to go to sleep tonight
And I’m too weak to follow dreams tonight
For the first time in a long time I can say
That I want to try to get better and
Overcome each moment
In my own way
I wonder if I’ll ever lose my mind
I tried hard for awhile
But then I kind of gave up
Winter is killer when the sun goes down
I’m really not as stubborn as I seem
Said the knuckle to the concrete
But I’m too tired to go to sleep tonight
And I’m too weak to follow dreams tonight
For the first time in a long time I can say
That I want to try to get better and
Overcome each moment
In my own way
I’m not saying that I’m giving up
I’m just trying not to think
As much as I used to
Cause never is a lonely little messed up word
Maybe I’ll get it right some day
For the first time in a long time I can say
That I want to try
I feel helpless for the most part
But I’m learning to open my eyes
And the sad truth of the matter is
I’ll never get over it
But I’m gonna try
To get better and overcome each moment
In my own way
I sure want to get back on track
And I’ll do whatever it takes
Even if it kills me

Which is confusing. Brian Williams being out is an easy cop-out for yesterday, but it doesn't explain Tennessee or Indy. Pass rush maybe. The safeties is another easy cop-out, and may be valid. Nobody's talking about the linebackers, though. The OLBs have been in flux all year.
It's just a collective downgrade. You hope this isn't the window closing on our D. It doesn't make sense if it was, but it would be a huge shame if so. A perennial great defense wasted by a bad passing game.

Del Rio's feeling the heat, to say the very least. His job is seriously on the line if we don't make the playoffs this year.
I love Del Rio, but I feel as though as though we've "wasted" a few years while he has been cutting his teeth as an NFL coach. Great franchises identify problem spots and fix them. We've had a terrible scoring offense during Del Rio's entire tenure. I think it would be a huge benefit to him if he'd give up a little say on offense, and hired a tried and true offensive guru. Also, something, absolutely anything, has been needed for the wide receiving core. Yet, we've still been sending the same stooges out for years now.
It's just very frustrating. I've been waiting for the "potential" of this team to break out for years now, and all they've done is underachieve when they need to step up the most.

your right on b/c offense has been the problem. enough with Matt Jones and Reggie Williams. its time to get some new faces in and get some speed and excitment. the team will never be anything without a decent passing game. grinding wins games but airing it out (sometimes) win titles

I like the phrase "Offense wins games, defense wins championships" because both parts are right. The Jags have had (until now it seems) a championship defense, but they haven't gotten there because their offense isn't winning enough games.

The running game is good. Garrard was good when he was playing, and we'll see if he's maintained that when he returns this Sunday. Maurice Drew is having a good year, along with Paul Spicer and Mike Peterson on defense. Speaking of the defense, they've regressed. The pass defense is bad, although the run defense is generally good.

Oh, and Mathis apparently has a groin injury that may take him out next week. With our secondary as bad as it is, no Mathis could be disaster vs. Lee Evans and Roscoe Parrish. Hopefully we can get pressure on Losman (or Edwards).

Sorry, I was fishing for positives earlier. On to congratulations:
Garrard is very efficient, no picks yet still amazes me and he torched us on 3rd downs all day.
Durant is fulfilling the expectations I had of him in April, and your kickoff coverage is top notch.
Also, Fred Taylor is one of my favorite players (thanks for trading us Rob Johnson for that pick), and that was a great burst on his TD.
I'm rooting for you guys from here on out since we sure as hell aren't going to catch you. Definitely my favorite contender in the AFC at this point.

Most people who retire (from my experience) don't retire "absolutely," meaning every once in a while they make some posts. Some eventually come back. I know NIP (nobodyinparticular) retired, but I see him every once in awhile. I'm not sure if ERU (EdReedUnstoppable) retired, but there was a time when he wasn't around, but now he's a regular poster.

Good
Garrard. Had another good game, as well as his INT streak. Yeah, it was broken, but it was a good feat nonetheless.
Freddy T. Another 100-yard game. He's getting into gear.
Bad
Pass defense. As usual.
Ugly
Penalties and officiating. Some calls were bad, but most of it was the Jaguars. What the poop, Reggie?

I just don't know if we'll get that chance. If we get the #5 seed, we have to go to San Diego, a talented team at home. If we get the #6 seed, we have to play at Pittsburgh. Playing Indy again would depend on the #6 seed winning if we are #5. If we are #6, we would have to go through the Patriots again. Of course, none of this would happen if (heaven forbid) we miss the playoffs.

I'm pretty sure the Jags can keep up the #5 seed...Peter King calls the would be matchup of Jags vs. Chargers the best matchup of wild card weekend...
I don't know if I would agree...but it would be entertaining to say the least...The chargers have been playing well as of late...I think a 3-1 record seals the deal for the #5 seed...even a 2-2 record with a Browns loss and a Titans loss would even seal it...

Heck yesh.
Good
Defense. First great game in awhile. Let's hope Stroud's okay, though.
Freddy T. Da man! Sucks because I had to leave the game early and I missed his TD, but whatev. I caught it on DVR.
Bad
Red Zone offense. Coulda been better...
Ugly
Maurice Drew. My expectations may be too high, but he hasn't done much for awhile. I guess Keak was right when he said that he's always had sophmore slumps. Atleast Freddy T's been hot to compensate.

The WR corps is interesting...RW has the TDs, Ernest Wilford has the clutch catches, Dennis Northcutt leads the way with consistency, and Matt Jones is teh suck. Yet, none of them are top receivers. Marcedes Lewis also counts when added to the mix. Him getting 40+ catches, an entirely possible occurance, would be a nice accomplishment for him as a TE in a thinly spread passing attack where he shared the TE spotlight with Wrighster and Estandia before they went out.

I think that they should start looking at Reggie more as we get closer to the playoffs...get him used to being the "go-to" guy...he's got the speed after he catches the ball...and he's strong...
during Del Rio's post game press conference someone asked if Reggie was finally living up to his 9th overall draft status...and Del Rio just said he's one of our best ball players, we don't have to talk about that anymore, he's a jaguar...I think that speaks volumes...
I still think we need a solid game changer that requires the opposing teams to put their best CB on the guy...that will come in the offseason...
Ernest Wilford is strange...he'll make some of the most clutch catches but then he'll drop passes that will make you want to pull your hair out...
I'm ecstatic about this team right now...I think we're playing the best ball in the AFC (New England included) and that we can beat any given team...

True, true. We have three games to go, and we all know what happened last year. And it's not like it's an easy stretch: you could make a case for losing all three.
But about Reggie...how many touchdowns has he had in the red zone on a skinny post? It's pretty much his MO.
JagHombre22

as far as making a case for losing all three remaining games...I think we could lose two of the three...I really can't see losing to Oakland at home, I just can't...Houston will be tough in houston, and the Steelers will be looking to rebound after the NE game...
I say we go 11-5...we could win out though...

Yeah. I could make a cause for any of the four possibilities. An Oakland loss would be a pre-this year Jaguars-type loss.
Side note...the last two games of this season are the same as 04, except the order was reversed from now and the games were in reverse locations to now.

The Jags place star defensive tackle Marcus Stroud on IR (http://www.jaguars.com/news/article.aspx?id=6591), thanks to a significant ankle sprain (same ankle that underwent microfracture surgery this past offseason) suffered against the Panthers this past Sunday. Tough year for Stroud.

Otherwise, play everyone for a quarter or so. Hope the offense puts up 14 points on the Texans in 6 minutes so you can get 'em out of there and put in all of the second teamers and declare it a solid outing.

He's a very good back up QB...that can win games for us if we need him to...

I think we will...although he will demand money...
Yeah, I think we will. He's done an overall good job this year, although he's not as good as some hype he was getting.

He is a lackadasical player, showing lackadasical effort in practice, running routes, and effort on catches. He has no real passion for football, it seems.
Why is everyone so negative on him? Don't you think the answer is obvious?

why else would he be deactivated in more than one game....why would the coach call him out and call him lazy? Why would his agent come out and demand that either Jones get playing time or he wants a trade....and yes, practices during training camp are open to the public and Jones' laziness didn't just start yesterday...

Like JagHombre said, a coach HAS explicitly said so, and fans can go to training camp. There are people on the Jaguars.com MB that go to just about every training camp practice possible and can see their performances.
Matt Jones has had only a few good games in his entire career. He's a bust.

I wouldn't officially call him a bust yet...but he's certainly not this teams WR of the future...he started getting more playing time in the last few games and he really asserted himself...much more than ever...he finished strong with four touchdowns...they will give him one more year next season, he'll probably be the slot guy...wilford will likely not be here next season...so I could see him having another year to "prove" himself...

He's not some massive Leaf-esque bust, but he hasn't performed at a first-round pick level. Maybe a fourth rounder. I remember everyone saying the pick would be a home-run, or a strikeout. I'd call it a popup that looks good for a half second when it comes off the bat, but is an easy out for the first baseman.

I agree with that assessment...I just think that they will give him every chance they can because they see the untapped potential that he has...which when he wants to show it...he can be very good...
a healthy Mike Walker and Broussard coupled with MR. Franchise leader in touchdowns...our WR corps could be very good...

Whether Smith stays or goes, I'd like to see us get more creative with the blitzing next year instead of running so much cover two and three. We have a a very deep linebacking corp and some nice designated pass rushers that are developing nicely. Hopefully we can add another defensive end in free agency or the draft as well.

Matt Jones has had only a few good games in his entire career. He's a bust.I don't need to tell you guys that Matt Jones is a popular player from his days at Arkansas, and he's one of my favorite college players in the last decade or so.
So I was just inquiring about what his troubles are/were. Since I posted, I did some research and found out exactly what you guys probably already knew, namely Del Rio's "his on-field body language is not encouraging" comments and his agent's trade demands. This os what I was curious about, as it's confusing for an outsider...
I can't help but doubt the Jags. This is the team who has spent recent first rounders on wideouts and benched/deactivated both of them at times. And the handling of the Leftwich situation certainly wasn't ideal, whether they turned out right or not (which obviously they did).
I think the Jags should be giving more playing time to Jones. They made a risk in drafting him and aren't letting themselves reap the reward. I agree that Jones' body language can be misconstrued as poor, but he seems to be that laid back type with loafing body language like Randy Moss, which doesn't necessarily mean he's not trying (for at least Moss, I know he isn't lazy despite the media stigma... I can't say the same about Jones, personally).
Anyways, I'd definitely take Jones for my team one way or another, especially if he can be had for cheap and Jags mgm is as sour on him as you all seem to be.
I'll let you get back to discussing your playoff game.
JagHombre22

The Jaguars coaching staff hasn't done well in the drafting of first round talent in the five years that Del Rio has been here....Reggie Nelson is probably his best pick in the first round...he deactivated Reggie Williams and Matt Jones do to the lack of productivity...it worked for Williams as you can see, he set the franchise record for touchdowns in a season....we're still waiting on Jones, but he shows flashes at times....
one thing Mike Smith is known for is his cover two scheme...and it's even said that Reggie Nelson was drafted to play in that scheme as a cover two cornerback...but I think his real worth is at safety, as evidenced by his play this season....if Mike Smith does leave for a head coaching job I think we have his replacement in house...in Dave Campo...
Congrats on the Jags getting to the playoffs, guys. The team probably should have made it last year, if not for a costly loss or two that came back to bite them.
I also like their chances against Steelers, as well. JDR and the teal gang can get their first playoff win.

Nelson drafted as a corner and not the free safety? Are you sure? I've never heard that before, ever.
They let Deion Grant walk/sign with Seattle in March, they needed a starting free safety. Gerald Sensabaugh was going to take over at strong safety for Donovan Darius who the Jags cut in June, enacting a youth movement at the safety position. Granted, Sensabaugh went down and the team signed veteran Sammy Knight, which worked out very well for them.

Reggie was definitely drafted as a free safety, but I remember there were some rumors around mini-camp that Reggie Nelson might be playing corner, which is what I think JagHombre is talking about. Donovin Darius being cut nixed that concept.

the only way we can really upgrade it is if we move Williams to safety and either sign or draft a big time playmaking corner...other than that the only other way of upgrade is going to be signing a playmaking SS....
I'm ok with next week because JDR will have them prepared...they got away from their type of football (run the ball, time of possession) and will likely return to it...but it will not be easy and I do not expect to jump out to an 18 point lead either...
