dude, it's a classic. the plot at the end is a little far fetched, and it may seem pretty canned now...but, seeing that when it came out in the 80's, i totally wanted to be a fighter pilot. and, for being a mid-80's movie, it doesn't come off as cheesy now.

AND, the scene where they're all in the classroom and maverick and goose are trying to explain their MiG encounter makes me laugh every time.

The whole movie is basically a glorified shower scene between Val Kilmer and Cruise. It has its moments but the plot, characters, and dialogue are so damn shallow.

you're right. and, i am of the belief that all action movies are the same, and all early tom cruise movies are the same, and i generally don't like either category. but, Top Gun, for some reason, just works for me. when i was 12 or 13, that was the movie that i pretty much watched every day.

yeah, i am glad they are going back to good, old fashioned stunts. i also heard lucas rejected 3-4 scripts before settling on one. tells me they aren't skipping out on the dialogue. great news.
