Or lack there of.

With training camps being only about 10 days away, there is only one 1st round draft pick that has signed. (TE Greg Olson to Chicago). I don't ever recall this many first round picks not being signed by mid July.

Should this be a concern or have a big impact in the NFL season?

Meh, nothing huge, you'll find there'll be a deluge of signings right before TC and in the first few weeks. Same every year.

You'll find once the first player taken at each position gets signed the rest fall into place.

The signings will start pouring in within the next week...

At this point in the offseason you never see more than a handful of first round guys signed. Having only one signed is maybe only 1 or 2 less than normal at this point. No reason for concern. Most get signed within 2 days before they report to camp.

The pay scale for rookies is a slotting system and until Russell, Johnson and Thomas sign, the agents don't know what their clients will get. They almost all wait for the top 3 to sign to see what their clients will get for their slotted position. Once the top 3 sign, the others sign their contracts in rapid order.

With this years crop I cant see many holdouts. Akthough Brady Quinn has a chance to be the starter in Cleveland if he reports on time expect him to be the last one signed.

There are "Whispers" of Joe Staley being close to a deal.

Last year Young signed the 28th. Ferguson signed the 26th. Bush signed the 30th. Hawk signed the 29th. Davis signed the 28th. Huff signed the 26th. Whitner signed in August. Sims signed the 30th. Leinart signed mid-August. So explain to me how this year is different from last year?

It never fails that the Bengals 1st round pick is always one of the last ones to sign, thanks Mike Brown.

It isn't. :)

On a related note, the NFL desperately needs rookie contracts like in the NBA. One bad draft pick can cripple your franchise beyond just losing an early pick.

EAcan'tdraft must see something that we can't. I'm not worried about signing Peterson at all.

the raiders almost always announce their draft pick signings the first day of camp all at once, so def. not worried about getting russell and company signed.

I am interested to see how many 1st rounders report to camp before they are signed to contracts but I don't remember if they can do that.

maybe its more like you never actually payed close attention to the offseason before this...yet you like to act like you know what youre talking about...like everyone else said, the signings start rolling along soon

They need to make it like the NBA. Unfortunately that won't happen anytime soon.

Looks like Joe Staley will be the second first rounder signed. Both sides have agreed to financial terms in what I think will be a 5 year deal. All they are working out now is the contract language and all that fun legal stuff. This will probably be the beginning of many more signings which will occurr during the next two weeks

I love it! That means Grubbs should be in camp on time.

Which hopefully in turn means he'll be starting at RG, now if only we can have Chester starting at C our line should be very solid.

Woo, for once the Bears aren't the last to get their draft picks in. They've already got 8 out of 9.
