the only way i can do 10 anymore is to pump the hell out of the bench, so that you're really having to work towards the end of the draft to get guys. i hate when, at any given time, you can grab a borderline starter off waivers to fill in for a bye week.
I was just talking with my brother yesterday about how awesome it would be to have a full 32 team keeper league. If it were possible to get that many reliable guys together for the long haul, I'd jump all over it. In the inevitable event that someone has to drop out, you'd just have to "sell" his team. It would be difficult to set up but I think it would be the ultimate fantasy game.

IDK, I still have fun in a six-person league, and I guess that's all that matters.

A 32 man league. That would be beastly. Have a rookie draft every year.

it'd be tough to put together... i mean, how do you deal with starters/reserves? inevitably, if you start more than one running back, people will be forced to play guys who have no chance of getting points simply because they had the misfortune to draft in the wrong position (just as an example position).
if you could work out the scoring, i think it'd definitely be intriguing.
Yea, whoever got the 32nd pick would be doomed.

If you had QB's Donovan McNabb, Matt Lienart, David Garrard, and Matt Schaub... who would you start?
It depends. Probably Leinart for the first few weeks to see if McNabb is back in form, if he gets back in form then, McNabb as your normal starter, and Leinart when he's playing a bad defense, which he often does. If McNabb and Leinart are both playing tough defenses, play whichever of Garrard or Schaub is playing the easier one.

Yeah, you'd definitely have teams get stuck in the cellar for awhile. Teams could be lacking a true starter at multiple positions. Maybe 32 is too much. But I like the idea of having a huge league where the teams actually resemble a real team. Maybe 20-24 would be better.

Although...if it would be long term, the last place finisher could have first pick of the rookies so you wouldn't need to do a whole nother draft, just one with rookies. And then they'd either get a starter or a person splitting time which would be tough to find in a league that big.

Yeah, they'd also get #33 which would be a high quality player. They might go QB-WR with those picks and then work on getting their RB as a rookie. As a long term thing, I think it would be fun as hell.

24 sounds about right to me. that way, you can pretty much get a top guy at at least one position, which, while slightly less interesting overall, i think is important for the fun factor. if my best guy is scoring 6 points, it doesn't matter if all my guys score 6 and i'm .500. but if i have a guy who's a top scorer, even if the rest of my team sucks, it's probably at least more interesting to follow the team through the season. but it would definitely still keep up the talent dilution levels.
*shrug* the only other problem is finding 24 people who are capable of paying attention all season.
hmmm does njx want to run such a 24 person draft?

I agree. I think 32 is going overboard. For multiple reasons. It would already be difficult enough to get 32 guys to make the commitment and not flake. With 32, there'd certainly be some perennial cellar dwellers who would likely just give up.

who would you start between e. manning (at DAL) and alex smith (vs ARI)???
I do a six team league every year and I think it's fun and a bit challenging. You have a stacked team, but so does everyone else. If one of your top players gets injured, you really have plan well and make good moves to make up for it.

That's a toughie. I personally like Smith because I see that as a shootout. But, I'm a Cowboys fan and may not be willing to admit that the G-men will score on us. I could probably flip a coin with that one but would take the guy who's playing at home against a team with a weak defense who will likely pass a lot themselves thereby slowing the clock while simultaneously putting pressure on the 9ers to keep up with the quick scores. Also, Jacobs and Droughns seem more likely to get redzone carries than Gore does.

bsaza2358

I like San Diego's D to come away with at least 3 sacks and 2 turnovers off Grossman and the Chicago O. Could be even worse. I don't expect that game to be really close.

I think Big Ben is a solid, solid QB. He is smart, generally doesn't turn the ball over, and he has excellent weapons with Parker, Miller, Ward, Holmes, and Washington. I think Tomlin's scheme and toughness will be a huge benefit. Ben's health is also a plus.

Okay I may be doing this big trade but first I have to know which TE to keep. Shockey or Winslow? They're both pretty much question marks with huge potential, but I don't know which one I should keep around.
bsaza2358

Shockey is in a better offense, but Winslow gets targeted more often. I would keep Shockey because I think he'll have more TD opportunities.

Reggie Bush or Clinton Portis
Carson Palmer (against Baltimore) or Matt Hasselbeck
RoyHall#1

Definitely go with Bush, Indy has a terrible run defense. As for the QB situation, I'd go with Palmer just because of how much of a stud he is.

I consider Palmer a must start in any format and any situation. Maybe if Hasselbeck is playing a very weak defensive team, and Palmer is scheduled @ Buffalo in a snowstorm, you can consider Hasselbeck ahead of him. Palmer is a top 3 QB at worst.

I agree with starting Bush over Portis this week as well. Miami's rush D is very solid, and the Redskins are splitting carries between Portis and Betts. Portis may or may not be healthy. Meanwhile, Bush is a ridiculous weapon. Go with Reggie against a potentially suspect Colts D.

Yes, seriously thinking about it. He is constantly injured, and it looks like it's the same old news this year according to Yahoo. And apparently Betts maybe ahead of him at this point(may need confirmation). If somebody picked him in the 1st that was a big reach, I got him in the tailend of the 4th. But will probably end up holding on to him for now as I just read he participated in his first full practice today.

You must mean your FLEX position. I would go with either Chester Taylor or Deion Branch. I think Taylor will be the featured back for this week anyways, and should get alot of touches. Plus its Minne, and I expect them to run ALOT. Branch is Seattle #1 target. Alot said there.

QB - David Garrard
RB - Brian Westbrook
RB - Reggie Bush
UT - Ladell Betts
UT - Adrian Peterson
WR - Larry Fitzgerald
WR - Santana Moss
WR - Calvin Johnson
TE - Antonio Gates
DEF - JAX
K - Joe Nedney
BN - Tarvaris Jackson
BN - Derrick Mason
BN - D.J. Hackett
BN - Drew Bennett
BN - Jason Witten
BN - SEA
I know, extremely weak at QB, but it didn't help that one guy took Carson, Brady, and Favre.

I like Denver and Oakland both as fantasy D's this season. Denver will run the ball and has the mile high advantage, but I think Oakland has a more talented defense. The problem there is that the Raiders O is not looking too strong, which means the Oakland D is on the field a TON.

Okay, I need advice on a WR situation in a ten team league. My top three receivers at this point are Steve Smith, Roy Williams, and Reggie Brown. They are all good, I'm not messing with them. However my two backups are Joe Horn and Anthony Gonzalez. And while I don't think they are bad, I may have the opportunity to upgrade them. Free agent WR's in this league at this point are Brandon Marshall, Ronald Curry, Bobby Wade, Brandon Jones, Demetrius Williams, and Michael Jenkins. Preferably I'd drop Horn who is on the downside of his career in favor of a guy who could have a breakout year. I guess the idea of Peyton Manning throwing to Anthony Gonzalez is probably going to make me want to keep him, in case it turns to be like Brandon Stokely in his big year. Any thoughts?

BTW do you know how Winslow has been? I haven't heard anything from him. The bottom team has Shockey, FYI.
Winslow is still probably the most talented player on the Browns offense. Some think he may do better than Gates if he can get some redzone looks. And since the bottom one has Shockey, that's great for them.

Does anyone know how LJ Smith is doing exactly though? Because under any normal circumstance I'd pick him up for sure, but I'm not sure about his health. And then with Watson, I don't know exactly how many touches he'll get.

I dunno how many carries Henry will be getting? Toomer will be a starter. And he is Eli's safety net. If he stays healthy I'd guess 700 yards and 6 TDs on the season.

I'm not sure how well Toomer will hold up this season, since he's over 30 and is coming off an Achilles tear. That kind of surgery can end careers. Many players who have Achilles injuries never recoup their prior skills. The Giants have 2 young WR's in Smith and Moss, and I expect them to make plays and see the field. I would hold Henry and try to get a less questionable player in a stronger offense.

Start Barber. The RB/WR position is almost always better utilized by playing a RB if you have one. He's much more likely to score than the other two. I'd say it's a tossup between Muhammad and Crayton. I'd probably give Crayton the edge this week considering Muhammad's slight injury concerns and the fact that Crayton will almost certainly see single coverage all night against a suspect secondary.

Don't even hesitate to go with Taylor. The Lions are actually kinda stout up front and I expect the Raiders to attack them through the air. RB's on teams that are projected to win are always a good idea. Not that the Raiders won't beat the Lions, but I think the Jags have a good shot at being up by a few scores in the fourth thereby increasing the overall carries for the RB's. Oh, and Taylor is just a better overall RB.
I'd go with Fred Taylor. I don't expect the Raiders to run the ball against the Lions for two reasons: They won't be able to and they will be picking apart our secondary. I think Taylor is the better back anyways.

Curry always had the talent, but he has had Achilles tendon repair surgery on both ankles and hasn't done anything consistently on the field in his 4-5 years in the league. When he's healthy, he flashes considerable talent, but I always question converted QB's and Achilles surgeries. Kudos to those who took that risk.

Hey, I had the 2nd overall pick and took LJ, here's my team
QB:
Marc Bulger
Alex Smith
John Kitna
RB:
Larry Johnson
Ronnie Brown
Michael Turner
Vernand Morrency
WR:
Marvin Harrison
Javon Walker
Isaac Bruce
Mike Furrey
Robert Meachem
Dwayne Bowe
TE:
Chris Cooley
Randy McMichael
K:
Jeff Wilkins
Def:
Chargers
Your RB's are a big, big problem. I don't think Brown or LJ will get consistent push early on this year. Morency is useless. Turner is okay as a #4 for now. You need to drop Meachem and pick up Burleson. You need to trade your WR depth for RB upgrades. See if you can move a QB as well.

Depends on what you'd be getting. I wouldn't downgrade immensely, because he played last year for a while without Pace and did just fine. But if you can get a great deal out of it, go for it.

Yeah, always remember to sell high and buy low. If you think Jackson's production will take a big dip this year, wait for him to have that inevitable big game and for your opponent to have a big need at RB. Then proceed to pillage.

Okay, on my main team I have both Marc Bulger and Steven Jackson for a ten team league. Didn't seem like a bad idea in the beginning, but now that Orlando Pace is out for the year, I am looking to shop Steven. Is this a good idea? My thoughts is that his production won't be at the level of a #2 pick so I might be able to salvage value quickly out of him. I know its fast and its only after one week but I think that losing Pace is really going to hurt him badly, moreso than Bulger, who it will also hurt considerably.

I'll see what kind of offers I get though. I mean, at this point, my team is falling apart for various reasons and I'm in 9th place so if I can get a deal that might help me out at other positions then yes, I'll do it. I've got nothing to lose in this league.

Yikes. At the last second, I switched Betts to Witten. Looking forward, Witten's supposed to be used in more packages this year and in sets where he'll be like a WR and get plays downfield, so he could be a fantasy stud so long as the Dallas offense stays hot.

My original plan was to put Witten into what I thought was a W/R/T slot, but was actually limited to W/R. So instead I played (ugh) Deion Branch :(

Alright, I am in a ppr league. Normal scoring otherwise, and my friend wants a trade:
I get:
Rudi Johnson
He gets:
Reggie Bush
Now I am real tempted to take it, Rudi is consistant 1200yrd+ seasons w/ 12-14TDs a year. My only problem is that Bush is an awesome ppr guy, and while he may get less TDs, he will get 60-90 rec. this year (if follows last year), and then add on the rushing yards and recieving yards. What do you guys think?
bsaza2358
09-11-2007, 02:56 PM
I think Bush will match Rudi's yardage this year with 5-6 TD's, but the PPR is the kicker. I'd stick with Reggie.

I actually think I'd take Brady. I just think they could exploit that secondary, and have a solid enough line to handle that blitz.
How many RBs are you starting? I'd rank it Gore, Drew, LT, AD, and then Betts, but it is always tough to sit LT... I just imagine that Gore will bounce back big, Drew should demolish ATL and I think they'll definitely focus on running it more this week, LT is always worth points and I think he'll have some extra motivation going up against NE, AD seems wise as the Raiders had a ton of rushing yards against the Lions though the Vikes don't quite have as great of a passing attack, and Betts might be getting less and less carries. That's how I see it anyway.

It obviously depends on what value you put on each individual player, but I'd personally reject it. I think it looks to be pretty even, and I only like to make trades when I feel I have the clear advantage. I don't think you'd be getting ripped off if you pull the trig, but I just wouldn't personally feel the need to do so. If you're looking to off some of those players, do so when their stock is up a bit more.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. Cutler and Leinart will probably put somewhat similar numbers throughout the season. Hines should be far more consistent than Braylon. And I don't particularly have a ton of faith in Drew to stay healthy, and he still does technically split carries, and if Jones stays healthy all year he should be solid. But of course, Cutler could have a breakout season, Leinart could crumble, Drew stays healthy and dominates, Ward gets injured, and Quinn comes in and turns Braylon into a stud. So it's really up to you.

Thanks alot. Another question. I just won my first game and usually have good luck when I stick with my original teams but I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on how to improve my team. I am in a 12 team league. We start 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, TE, K, D/ST. I got luck they forgot to add the flex.
QB: Cutler, Schaub, Garrard
RB: LT, TJones, Norwood, Ahman Green
WR: Harrison, Andre Johnson, Wes Welker, Patrick Crayton
TE: Ben Watson, Tony Scheffler
K: Jeff Wilkins (STL)
D/ST: Bengals (picked them up to go against Cleveland), NYJ.
The team isn't all that good but I am hoping that Dunn gets hurt and I can plug Norwood in if needed. I am not that happy with Jones as my #2 RB but was wondering if any good deals could be made. Every team is pretty even in our league. Thats what you get when $100 per person is thrown into the pot for some big payouts.

Not at all. Actually I am maxed out on the number of players at each position except for the K spot. I think I am gonna hold out and play with my team. I like what I am hearing about Norwood this week already so I think think he will be a good start for me.

Then why ask? Haha. But Drew is against the Falcons, who Peterson ran all over last week, while I believe Jackson for the Pack didn't quite do as well against the Eagles. Not that that should be the deciding factor, but it's something to consider. I'd just figure Drew would get more carries this week, while Portis with bruised ribs, may not have another monster game.
