JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (July 29, 2007) -- Former No. 1 draft pick Tim Couch signed a two-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, getting a chance to revive his career as a backup to quarterback Byron Leftwich.

Couch, the top pick by Cleveland in 1999, hasn't played a down in the NFL since the 2004 preseason.

But Jacksonville coach Jack Del Rio wanted to take a look at the former Kentucky star who had shoulder surgery last year. The Jaguars needed another quarterback in training camp because third-stringer Quinn Gray has an ankle injury and is on the physically unable to perform list.

The Jaguars also have backup David Garrard and undrafted rookie Lester Ricard.

He's going to be the training camp, 4th string QB. When Quinn Gray comes off the PUP, Couch will be the 5th string QB, maybe 4th if he is better than Lester Ricard.

Yeah, he will probably be cut.

That would be funny if he makes the team, fills in for a injured starter and tears the NFL up while leading the Jags to Superbowl win.. Hey a guy can dream right?

Couch was the perfect way not to treat a young QB.

Tim Couch under center is about as useful as hunting a bear with a watergun, and Im not talking supersoakers either.

I'm sorry to side track but I thought it worth mentioning that you have the best sig on this site.

As for Couch I kinda hope he makes the team cause the tools are all still there.

I don't know how the Jags can even justify bringing him in as a TC body. But who knows, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Can anyone see a BIG difference between the way the Browns treated Couch and the Raiders will treat Russell? Jamarcus has a lot better runningbacks than the Browns did their first year but the rest of the offense isn't something to brag about.

The contract, which did not include a signing bonus, will pay Couch the veteran minimum of $595,000 this season if he makes the team. He would earn slightly more in 2008.

No signing bonus = No money for Couch, he'll be cut.
This contract means nothing, its just a waste of the Jags' and Couch's time.

actually the RBs are perhaps one of the weakest spots on our roster. Our run blocking last year was average but our running backs were bad.Lamont doesnt fit our system and is a backup at best as well as Rhodes.Bush may be special but hes just a rookie. Our WRs are good Porter and Curry will be the starters.Miller as our TE.THe only question is our Pass blocking obviously.
