Not unexpected at all but still unfortunate.

Walsh's 49'ers made me cry on numerous occasions picking apart my Bears teams of the 80's. Obviously one of the best coaches ever. Best wishes to his family.

Absolutely one of the best head coaches, offensive minds, and likely general managers as well in the game's history. Not just talent, but also look at the quality of coaching he surrounded himself with and developed. Terrible news.

My condolences to his family and friends..

first off, it's not nice to call someone an "ass" n00b. second, i wasn't talking about pr0n spamming, i was talking more about your utter disrespect by hijacking a thread to promote a petition for throwback uni's. if that bothers you, don't hold your breath waiting for me to shed a tear. Now, can we get back to honoring an amazing man and coach on the day of his passing?

NFL Net just showed the Niners Americas Game's not even a month ago. I think I also saw something on Super Bowl Sunday about his deteriorating condition.

Horrible to hear, but he lived a good life, and his legacy/coaching ideals will be passed on for generations.

RIP.

Under Dungy, they forgot Herman Edwards. I'm surprised a Jets or Chiefs fan didn't point this out.

SO effing sad, I didn't even know he was sick. He is one of the greatest men to ever grace a sideline, or walk the face of this Earth. Players from Joe Montana to Ronnie Lott, Jerry Rice, Keena Turner, Roger Craig, all considered him to have the most signifigant impacts on their lives. Not to mention all the coaches he influenced and took under his wing...Not just a great coach, a great human being. We could all learn something from Bill Walsh.

A true innovator. He took Paul Brown's short passing ideology and made an official offense with strict linguo and techniques out of it.

But he was also a great evaluator of talent, and arguablly the best HC of all time at making adjustments to fit his players. He made great adjustments during the game, and made great adjustments to his scheme itself to suit the strongpoints of his players. And thats what made him so great. He was willing to flex a little.

Im not ready to call him the best of all time, I know you'll hear that alot since he passed away, and that usually happens after someone passes, but he surely was one of the all time greats.

i cried.
i opened my phone when i got of the plane to check my e-mail and found out that he died. i stopped in the airport and cried.
because that man, was a talent, listening to him, bootleg tapes of him speaking, had a significant impact on my life, even though i've never played a day of football on how to conduct yourself with passion, charge, beauty, how to adjust... i was waiting for a day when i could find him to meet him to say thanks. and that never happened.

the world lost a great man, and for that we should all be happy to remember and grow in it.

i'm with bf51 though.
walsh's 49ers made me want to burn SF down to the ground.
during season, anger has no bounds.
