I just watched Beef I & II last night. When they brought up Nelly vs. KRS, I nearly died laughing. Nelly did have a good line about KRS collecting a pension though.
I know about the older stuff but the late 70s early 80s, not a lot of it does it for me. A lot of them are party MCs but they started getting more lyrical around then. Mid to late 80s is the older stuff I'm into out of the old school.

The majority of the stuff you guys are talking about isn't even hip-hop, haha.
loal what?
**** I just read your other posts so I figure you know what's up but damn I was about to cry if another person tried to tell me there's a difference between rap and hip-hop.
I wore my J DILLA CHANGED MY LIFE http://www.stonesthrow.com/news/jdillachangedmylife/

Just wondering if anyone here has listened to the Cannibal Ox album "Cold Vein" probably the bets rap album i have heard since 36 Chambers, reminds me a little of it too, go check it out if you haven't

Honestly I've tried to listen to Cold Vein so many times but I just get confused so I figure I'll look up the lyrics online and realize I'm more confused than before. Too abstract for me, but I think I might finally be liking it a bit after forcing myself to listen to it on a road trip.

I was about to cry if another person tried to tell me there's a difference between rap and hip-hop.
It's true though. Rap is only one of the four facets of hip-hop.

Oh I misworded it. There's a difference between rap and hip-hop definitely, but they've become interchangeable when describing the music, and I meant someone saying there's a difference between "Rap music" and "Hip-Hop Music" my god. o. my. god.

I hate to admit it.... but I like Kiss Kiss. I find it catchy as hell. Although I absolutely HATE the pitch correction that T-Pain usually uses [Chris Brown uses it in Kiss Kiss].

TERRIBLE NEWS ABOUT ON MY FAV EMCEES EVER
Rock, one half of Duck Down Records duo Heltah Skeltah with his partner Sean Price, was arrested on Tuesday (January 15) on a charge of attempted murder in the second degree. The rapper’s attorney, Kenneth J. Montgomery, released a statement to Hot 97 News Director Miss Info explaining that his client stands accused of shooting a man in the neck on a Brooklyn street and causing paralysis. Rock, whose real name is Jamal Bush, has been formally arraigned on the attempted murder count and related charges. Mr. Montgomery notes that the victim in the case is a known pimp and member of the Bloods street gang. The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office has also accused Rock of being a pimp himself, and claim that the alleged incident occurred during a dispute over a prostitute. “Mr. Bush categorically and unequivocally denies all of these allegations and we will fight vigorously to prove his innocence,” Montgomery told XXLMag.com. Rock is due in court on January 18.

That might not be good news for Rock or anyone close to him. I dont tknow how the Bloods deal with retailiation for someone who wasnt murdered. ROCK IS SUCH A GRIMEY MOTHER

I'm kinda curious, what's your interpretation of these lines? I can't come up with anything but it's probably me being ******** more than anything else. My favorite lines from that song would be
"Tension prepares us for ascension

that sounds about right for weezy, ridin around wit all them damn pills n powder, thats why he be so faded when he goes on stage, keep telling people weezy's lifespan wont be really long, he will be lucky to make it to 40, he doesnt just smoke bud he's on that extra lol...sippin lean, takin x pills, doin powder, you cant do all that consistently and think it wont shut your body down at some point...
at least he's droppin mixtapes every week though
Nitschke-Hawk
01-24-2008, 02:18 PM
Well I was surprised they didn't find any lean he's always got it. Or prescription pills thats what he had last time, come to think of it he probably has prescriptions for that now. He has parties on the tour bus, there's videos on Youtube with him and Young Money smoking and drinking on the bus. I'm just glad he's not on the Amy Winehouse level. Plus not all of that quantity is for him, they got a lot of it for a reason lol. But yeah he definitely needs to cut back, he won't be able to manage all the side projects if he gets too caught up in the party life.

lol thats horrible, it doesnt even really make sense to me, its not really rhymin but its still tight lol
i was bored and i felt like sharin some of the things i remember from my Long Beach days(usin the **** U Pay Me Beat)
(:02)
try to **** with me, thinkin its all good
get ready for some pay back im bringin the hood
if you go and mess with me, better run and hide
cause a gun shot hurts more than damage pride
if you think im jokin then come and try me
im like Michael myers welcome to my Halloween
or call me Freddy Kruger ill kill you in your dreams
cause my pay back is worth more than it seems
(:28)
so welcome to my nightmare it lives on my street
you never feel safe unless your always packin heat
i call mine D-Wade, cause its always shootin threes
if you think your foulin me get ready for 2 frees (two shots)
you cant escape the hood they know who dey be
if you mess with a crew they'll find out where you sleep
think your sleeping good better wake up quick
cause the crew just broke in with silenced techs
it doesnt take too long to be deleted for the map
all you need is a crew with a couple loaded gats
and about ten minutes so everyone can flee
no one saw a thing cause snitchin aint free
your life's at stake and crews do anything
got power over cops cause they make money
so when you see that cop car its patrolling
so the crew knows when its time to start firing
this can happen and day of the week
so when you want pay back better watch how you speak

Yeah, I got all of JMT's stuff. I like listening to their stuff but I saw them live and it made me [almost] hate them. Vinnie Paz runs his mouth a lot about EVERYTHING. He doesn't even do it in an intelligent way either. That turned me off a little.

The Minnesota hip hop scene is actually really impressive and is starting to get the recognition that it deserves since Brother Ali's Undisputed Truth was at the top of many critics best albums of 07 lists. I love how Brother Ali incorporates blues into his work, really makes for a unique experience/sound.
I just got my hands on some Aesop Rock recently and he instantly became one of my favorites. None Shall Pass is amazing, no weak tracks on that album...every beat is fresh and Aesop is truly a lyricist.
Anyone listen to Blu and Exile's Below the Heavens? Again, another great album and this is only Blu's debut, I have a feeling he's going to break into the mainstream bigtime. I think he's the next big thing in hip hop.

I didn't hate it, More or Less is a sweet song, I thought the cd was ok, which was disappointing to me because I am used to better from Talib.
I wasn't feeling his collaborations on the album. It came off as trying to hard to go mainstream to me. Kanye West? Will.I.Am? Justin Timberlake? Not a fan of any of them. The song country cousins threw me because Talib and UGK are about as different as you can get in rap. I love UGK but that's too weird a combination for me.
After seeing what he could do in Reflection Eternal (My favorite Talib album) and Black Star, maybe I'm just spoiled but anything short of awesome from him is a disapointment for me.

One Be Lo is my favorite current rapper. I can't wait until L.I.F.E. comes out. S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M. was an insane album.
I am dying for the day L.I.F.E. comes out...it seems all his work is just building up to that...when I last saw him in concert he was talking about L.I.F.E. dropping and said its like a pinnacle for him...cant wait for the day
isn't R.E.B.I.R.T.H. out? how's that album.. still want to buy SONOGRAM
Yes REBIRTH is out right now and it is very good...Ive listened to it through a couple times and already love it...its kind of a different style from S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M. but I still love it none the less...definitely worth the cash...and we all know SONOGRAM is well worth it as well...Lo deserves the revenue...both times Ive seen him in concert (as a part of Binary Star), him and Silla would just chill at a table for a good hour and try to get people to buy albums...they are super down to earth and willing to talk...Id say I had a good 20 minute conversation with them...super chill guys and amazing live...they came up to the concert with a ride from someone in a corolla and with their luggage...I honestly felt I owed it to them to buy an album so I just bought a copy of S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M. (which I already had) and got it signed...they deserved it...you can get a copy of S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M. online and at some music store (I saw a copy at Ameoba)...I got my copy of R.E.B.I.R.T.H. straight from subterraneous at http://www.subterraneousrecords.com/store.html

Him Kanye and Mos do stuff all the time...
Obviously with Mos Def they make up Black Star, where are you getting Kanye and Talib Kweli do a lot of stuff together?

Kanye West produced Get By but was not featured
I assume you meant Good to You, Kanye also did not rap on this track
In the Mood is the one we were talking about off of Eardrum
Kweli does not feature Kanye all the time.
Get Em High
Wack Niggaz
Make It Better
These are all tracks by Kanye featuring Talib Kweli. Kanye features Talib Kweli a bit, but nothing like the duo that Mos Def and Talib Kweli have created. Kanye is a good producer but a bad rapper which is why I believe that featuring him ON a track is a weak ploy for ratings. Kweli's quality of rap is much greater than Kanye West.
What I initially said is that Eardrum is an attempt to go further mainstream, since at least lyrically Talib Kweli's older CD's do not feature Kanye.

Kanye's featured at least on Get By remix...almost positive
And when I said Talib feature Kanye all the time, I didn't mean that exactly, I meant that they rap together a lot...which they do, and Kanye produces a bunch of his stuff. I think 6 or 7 songs alone is more than enough to be considered a lot, considering they're not a group together...and no **** not as much as Talib and Mos...uh, Black Star? I don't get why it's that hard...they make a good amount of music together, is that better phrasing for you?

Lifesavas opened at the last Galactic concert I went to.
If you like MF Doom I would recommend Deltron3030 and Kool Keith (Dr. Octagon).
