I've come to the conclusion that if I ever admit to liking a banger/club song then I don't know anything about rap according to alot of people on this site.

That's because a lot of people on this site probably don't go out and get ****** up at parties and whatnot, where there is club music playing and tons of girls dancing around you and with you in little clothing to club music.

Appreciate the music for what it is: entertainment. It's not meant to be deep or thought provoking or profound. It's meant for people to get ****** up and dance to.

Also, if you any of you ever decide to thizz, then listen to club hip hop. You won't be able to stop moving.

I'll hit you up with albums, that's the way to really get to know them. Bittorrent if you can't afford them, easier than limewire.

Kweli
Blackstar
Reflection Eternal (this means you)
And song, one of hip-hop's greatest: Get By. That's not on either album, which is why i'm putting it out there.

Rakim
Paid in Full
The Master = I'd recommend this, it's more modern and has aged considerably better than PIF. The former was groundbreaking in its time though, good to check it out.

One be Lo and Binary Star = I'm actually just starting to check them out, can't really give recs. I'm pretty sure one be lo is the rapper in binary star though.

Blackstar- Blackstar. Quite possibly my fav album ever. check definition, respiration, thieves in the night.

Common
Resurrection, like water for chocolate, for some easier stuff to get into, Be. Produced partly by Kanye so it's niiiiice.

Mac Dre - same as binary star. just starting to listen

Mos Def - BLACKSTAR and Black on both sides. (Mr. Ni*** is amazing)

Nas - Illmatic. Particularly NY state of mind and life's a *****. if you like the first verse on life's a *****, definitely check out doe or die. so underrated.

prolly didn't help much, but there's my thoughts.

Good article.

I just don't see how "cleaning" hip-hop will be a solution. The only way it will be the way it once was is if a rapper can become the next rap icon in the molds of Biggie or 2Pac. That seems highly unlikely though with most of the current rappers.

It's not so much about cleaning it up as it is about creating something new. There are no sub-genres that are popular. It's the same crap over and over again.

Thats true. You do have music from the East, West and South which in general seem to have the same concept and sound but I wouldn't say they're close enough to be considered their own sub-genre.

It's all the same basically. Cars, money, hoes, clubbing, drinking, smoking, killing, hustling. That's about the extent of the lyrical content. And it's not even a fresh look at any of these things.

Beats are all the same too it seems. Everybody is just trying to come out with the next "This is Why I'm Hot" or whatever.

My friends won't stop singing that everywhere. They take a random saying and sing it "Ay Bay Bay" style in tune. Catchphrase rap has to end here because these guys actually think they're creative and talented by making a gimmick. Problem is "the streets" actually like that crap. It's one thing to be a bad rapper/lyricist but it's unbearable when their beats are lame and the music is non-existing.

LAS VEGAS - Sour grapes from Kanye West — again. Shut out at the Video Music Awards, Kanye West threw a tantrum Sunday night in front of media and crew backstage as the MTV show was ending. West, waiting for an elevator in a crowded hallway, began yelling about losing all five categories for which he was nominated. "That's two years in a row, man ... give a black man a chance," West said, stomping around his entourage and directing his comments at a reporter. "I'm trying hard man, I have the ... number one record, man."

Kanye West - Graduation Review
By Paul
http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drj000/j038/j03870a2u80.jpg

To start off I just got it today at Target. It was obvious the Kanye stack was growing short, while there was an abundance of "Curtis" copies available. When I went to the cashier she commented, "man, everyone is buying Kanye West today.". I know I didn't have to write that, but I felt it was worth it:). First thing you notice is that whoever designed the Artwork is on some kind of hallucinate drug. Comes with a Poster, that will will be in the trash after I write this review.

Alrite now for the music. As in previous Kanye albums he starts out strong, with some tracks that are worthy of single material. "Good Morning" ,"Champion" and of course "Stronger" are all great tracks with that Kanye sound that we have all grown accustomed to. Though played the hell out of by the radio, "Stronger" still sounds fresh. So far so good. "I Wonder" takes some time to develop but it is a solid track. Then the singles "Good Life" and "Can't tell me nothing" follow, and pretty much everybody has heard them. Now here is where a string of mediocre and disappointing tracks come. "Barry Bonds" with Lil Wayne, is pretty average, not what I was expecting from two of the hottest artist right now. "Drunk and Hot Girls" with Mos Def, is just awful IMO. Kanye's performance and the beat is just forgettable. "Flashing Lights" is decent, but I would probably skip it on most listens. After such a strong start I was really disappointed by the mediocrity of the middle tracks. But it does end on a strong note. "Everything I am" is definitely on of my favorites tracks. DJ Premiers scratching over a piano backdrop is sick, with Kanye's typical "I have a haters" lyrics. "The Glory", "Homecoming" are also great tracks. And it's rounded out with "Big Brother" which is actually one of the better tracks, a look into Kanye's relationship with Jay. If I didn't know any better I think he accused Jay of biting one of his ideas.

But overall, The album is a brisk 13tracks 51min. No lame skits or unnecessary intros, which is the way I like it. Starts off great, falters abit but gets back into shape in the last 1/3. Coming from Kanye, you know the production will be solid, which it is. Great beats, good arrangements good flow throughout. IMO Kanye's progression as a lyrcist hasn't been that great since "College Dropout", but it's good enough, and he comes with some good punch lines here and there. I don't think it's as strong as "Late Registration", but it is a tiny bit better then "College Dropout". But I would still recommend it.

Tracks
Good Morning
Champion
Stronger
I Wonder
Good Life
Can't Tell Me Nothing
Barry Bonds
Drunk and Hot Girls
Flashing Lights
Everything I Am
The Glory
Homecoming

LOl yeah alot people agree with you actually. But I just enjoyed this one just a tiny bit better. Not saying College Dropout sucks. I mean any album with "Two Words" "All Falls Down and "Jesus walks", is gonna be a good, it is a classic depending to who you talk to. Just as of right now I like graduation a bit better. With Late Reg as my favorite so far

I love Graduation. I can't say what it's better than. But it sounds like nothing I've heard before. I wish there were a couple more tracks of greatness. Don't diss the artwork Kanye has said the album was pushed back due to getting the artwork complete. I don't know the guys name but he he's one of the best artists right now. It's a great touch that goes with the dream big and stadium status feel he's done with the music on the album. I definitely like all the songs. Drunk and Hot Girls may be weak on lyrical punch but it's about a massive phenomenon, I think its great. Nobody has ever made a song like that. It's creative if nothing else. I wish Mos Def actually had a verse maybe I missed it.

Kanye has said he created these songs with stadium feel to them, "stadium songs". A song like Flashing Lights which would be amazing at a concert. His past albums were more easy listening rap. This album is like his past stuff with intellectual partying in mind.

Kanye killed the VMA performances too I forgot to mention. That's not much of an award show anymore but the performances by everybody this year were amazing and they actual chose good artists except Britney Spears. Alicia Keys was so good too.

It's so good it actually makes me laugh when I listen to it.

Which reminds me. Wu-Tang CD in November. I can't ****** wait. It has been way to long since a Wu album. They're first single has been released and it's unlike any rap you've ever heard, which is exactly what you expect from Wu-Tang.

i heard it before, but yea, hes lucky as the beat he uses is fire. It only takes some catch basic beat to get a song really nowadays, which is kinda sad. With the water down, basic slangin lyrics, and basic beats, its obvious why people hate rap, but i cant hate what people rap about their life. Sadly a lot of people slang just to live, and i know some people who do to, the problem is when u make money so easy, why get a real job, its sad that they cant rely on the government to help and then find their own way, and when they do, they get screwed over. Sad world we live in and im not saying i agree with slangin, its just understandable

edit- i get way into things lol

Also he makes one of the worst rhymes ever when he says cant touch me lyricly u cowards cant even touch me literally.....wtf? if u cant beat me with words, u cant beat me with fists? the way he says it makes u want to go, OOOOOOHHHH ****, he ****** his ass up, but its just TOOO over the top, it almost makes it comical. Id say hes about a billion times a better rapper than Soulja boy, but thats cause Soulja boy is the raps verson of Weird Al
