View Full Version : Michael Vick suspended by the NFL

NEW YORK -- The NFL has suspended Michael Vick indefinitely.

On Friday, Vick filed his plea agreement in federal court admitting to conspiracy in a dogfighting ring and agreeing that the enterprise included killing pit bulls and gambling. He denied making side bets on the fights, but admitted to bankrolling them.

Friday afternoon, a letter to Vick from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said, in part:

"Your admitted conduct was not only illegal, but also cruel and reprehensible. Your team, the NFL, and NFL fans have all been hurt by your actions."

Ok any bets on how many posts it will be before someone says dogfighting shouldn't be illegal or that this is a race issue?

On topic - harsh action but a necessary one. I hope it never has to be used again.

Michael Vick's father said he asked his son to give up dogfighting, or to at least put property used in the venture in the names of others to avoid being implicated, according to a report in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

This allows the Falcons to try and reclaim some of his bonus money. I heard about 3.75 Million, but that's just an estimate.

He can't play from jail :P

Well, you know, the Panamanian soccer team had a player called Garces who played while he was in jail. He reportedly killed a person with a gun, but the trial was never commited, and since he didn't have enough money to get out before the trial, he kept himself in jail. When it was practice time or game time, he'd go out under custody and play. He couldn't travel though. Afterwards a judge declared him innocent because of lack of evidence (the gun was never found, and some other things).

And ever since he supposedly shot that guy, he earned the nickname of ''el pistolero'' which means pretty much the gunman.

If he misses a game due to a suspension, yes. This way, amazingly, is the best possible way the Falcons could address the Michael Vick contract.

DONT DROP THE SOAP!

anyways what Vick did was awful and im pretty sick of hearing about him in the news its never ending and it was like when T.O. was in the news except for a differnt reason it just goes on and on none stop im glad it should be over for awhile. Anyways not a surprise about the suspension Vick is just getting what he had coming.

Anyone have the specifics of the plea?

ESPN reports that the Vick plea says he didn't kill dogs back in 2002 with the other 3, but killed them in April 07, which is right around the draft.

That coincides with the time he told Goodell he wasn't involved with dogfighting and that would make it even harder for Vick to come back. Apparently Goodell doesn't like being lied to, guess we'll see how much a role it will play when he applies for reinstatement.

Didn't want to start a new thread for this but interesting article, Vick could play next year if Goodell doesn't stop him.

If Derek Anderson listens to it, will that take his rating up, say, 10 points so it would be 9? Or is he a lost cause?

"Now I understand. Mike Vick didn't run a dog fighting operation and go to dog fights to gamble. Because he's not a gambler. It says it right on his plea agreement. He just went to see the dogs rip each other to shreds. Not for the excitement of winning or losing few bucks but for the blood, guts, gore, suffering, and death. So at least he's not a gambler, just a sadistic, sick mofo. I feel much better now. For a minute I thought he had some awful character flaw like gambling."

No ya see what happened was when Parcells was coach of the G-Men he was great and generous, but one day Phil Simms brought baby Chris to practice and Bill got to hold Chris. but baby chris pee-ed on Parcells. Ever since then Parcells vowed revenge on Chris and sent Sean Payton to do his bidding which is why Payton is the coach of the saints, but 2 weeks before Payton could do parcell's bidding chris would get inured and out for the season.

This could be a blessing in disguise. According to Len Pasquarelli, the Falcons will get 6$ Million in base salary back this year and will go after 20+ $ Million next year. The team should be able to be major players next free agency, combine that with a top-5 pick.... and they should be able to reload quickly.

22M is what I'm hearing. I'm also hearing that even if Vick can't pay the actual monies, they will still get the cap room. and with how much Arthur likes to spend, expect Hall, Boley, D-Williams, and a few other guys to get locked up long term in addition to some premier lineman and a possible stealing of Tony Romo.
