I think you have to throw Sam Bradford's name into this discussion for now.

21-23 331 yards and 3 TDs in his first career start. I don't care who the opponent is, that's an impressive game

White 10/18 192 2 td 0

had about 4 drops; slaton dropped 2 for td; schmitt dropped 1

Slaton 16 108 3 td 58
White 9 98 2 td 38

Raymell Rice

25 carries 184 yards, 3 TD's(in 3 quarters)

now he's not a candidate but if he has numbers like these all year who knows(doubt it though...) Tiquan Underwood had 10 catches, 248 yards, 2 TD's!!!

Michigan

The embarassing loss dents his chances, but Mike Hart had 23 carries for 188 yards and 3 td's, including a clutch 48 yarder to put Michigan up 32-31 late. One of the only players who played to win yesterday. If we can somehow put together a 9 win season, Hart should be going to NYC.

Sorry Michigan fans, but after losing to App St. there is absolutely zero chance of any Michigan player winning the Heisman. Hart has a shot at the Walker however. Thats just being realistic.

I still laugh at all the Michigan fans that flamed me for saying Henne isn't that good and wont be up for the Heisman. Any last comments from those people or are you going into hiding?

You have to throw Brohm out there, over 300 yards passing and 3 TD's.

I didn't ever say Henne for Heisman, but Hart could still win the Heisman. He was a long shot to start with. Hypothetically speaking, what if Hart puts up 1,700 yards, 20 TD and Michigan goes 11-1. He has proven countless times he's the team MVP, and if they roll from now on (doubtful) he will be the reason why.

I like Hawaii as a program, but come on do you think they are really going to give someone the Heisman when the hardest game they play all year is to a number 24 ranked Boise State. Absolutely not. They are dead last in sos, and he has 0% chance of winning this award. I like Colt Brennan alot. Nothing against him he didnt make the schedule.

If he throws 6 TDs a game there is no way he doesn't win. Is it gonna be hard for him because of who they play? Yea, but to say 0% is a bit extreme, if he throws for 6,000 yards and 70 TDs you really think he'll have 0% change to win?

I really hope the press isn't sucked in by his statistical acheivements. I'm certainly not trivializing the numbers he put up last night\will continue to put up, but I would give the Heisman to a QB from a competitive\major conference who put up 30+ td's with 10 or fewer picks and won some big games\performed in the clutch over Brennan and his inflated numbers any day of the week.

If McFadden does like he did last year he should win it. Booty's not THAT good, just a solid QB on USC where they get stats in that system no matter who they throw in, and McFadden runs and throws for TDs. If Louisville goes unbeaten Brohm should be in the top 2 as well IMO.

Even if he did that he still wouldnt win. His schedule is way to easy. You dont think if John David Booty had that schedule he couldnt put up them numbers? Or if McFadden had it he wouldnt rush for 300 a game? Its like you going out with 5 of your friends and playing five 6 year olds. Of course your going to win everytime.

If JDB had that schedule he would not throw for 6,000 yards or over 50 Td's let alone approach 60. However, Run DMC would probably run for 500 a game.

ESPN shows 5 TDs and a career high 401 yards. 401 yards for a career high in Louisville's offense is kinda low, imo. Nearly escaping an upset against Middle Tennessee shouldn't really help his cause either.

Well, playing time is June Jones' call. Hawaii winning is also keeping him in the race.

I think there are several factors:

Colt was in the race last year whereas Harrell wasn't. His name was on the map and he's done nothing to disappoint yet.

Colt had flirted with entering the draft and was talked about as a potential first rounder. So by returning, he came back to the college scene with star power.

As long as he keeps winning, he'll be in the race. He's no fluke, so the stats will be there again. He will break Ty Detmer's record.

Colt had all the stats he needed to win last year. Stats are only part of it. Harrell is realizing that now.

How about freshman WR Michael Crabtree's start?

Graham Harrell's favorite target has 38 catches 538 yards & 8 TDs in three games, albeit against Conference USA competition(SMU, UTEP, Rice).

Big game this weekend for Harrell & Crabtree, who open Big 12 South play in Stillwater.

Will Crabtree or Bowman be the best WR on the field?

Can we remove DeSean Jackson from the watch list? Yes, I understand that he's an electrifying player, but any other player with his stats would NEVER be considered for the Heisman. He hasn't even looked like the best receiver on his team. Other than the amazing punt return in week 1, what has he done to deserve being a Heisman candidate? They play West Virgina, Louisville, South Florida, and Cincy. Those teams arent that bad at all.

Defensively? Yeah, Cincy and SF are good, but the majority of that schedule is an ideal breeding ground for offensive stats to rapidly grow on themselves like germs in a neglected porta-potty. Especially when your team is so conscious of them and fans the flames as much as they can like a bum spraying diarrhea on the walls of the aforementioned infected turdhouse. Comparing stats in the college game is a futile exercise that will rarely yield meaningful data. Some of the best players in the game don't even start for their team. And some of the best statistical producers wouldn't even start for a whole lot of other teams. They should have an award based on stats, that clearly states that's what it's based on. And then there's the Heisman. Which should be given to who is perceived to be the best player in College Football. Both are pretty meaningless and can't help but be inaccurate and biased, but they provide fans something to follow and argue over and players something to strive for. Some guys should be rendered ineligible for the Heisman imo, just based on the lack of capable opponents. You can't rightly be proclaimed the best at anything until you at least make an attempt to prove it. Many players in this game will look like the best against teams like Norfolk St or Northwestern. But very few will look great against the stiffest of competition. You've gotta prove yourself week in and week out. A game or two against a few mediocre defenses doesn't reveal much in a comparison against a guy who's schedule is laden with tough opponents. Stats should be taken lightly and always looked at from the proper perspective in such comparisons.

Eh, that's what most media guys will think too. Fact of the matter is that Hawaii was 21-10 at the half and Graunke was so bad that Hawaii reverted to a running game in that half. The last time we played a AA team, Colt had 5 TDs 1 minute into the second quarter. There was a huge difference between how the team is with Colt and without. Graunke was boo'ed by the crowd constantly. You wouldn't have guessed it by the final score. Special teams and defense made two scores in the second half by themselves and also created multiple turnovers for the offense to score from close. Our 3rd team actually played better than the 2nd team because by then Charleston was worn out trying to play hungry players that want to prove they deserve more playing time.

Yeah, that's true. There's always a chance they could get upset. Just seems unlikely with the rest of their most 'difficult' match ups being at home. And you're right, with a schedule that weak, I don't see how you can give a team a BCS bid without having proven they can compete on that level.

They have some weird rules for non BCS teams to get in.

I think its they have to be top 8 in nation(Hawaii will never be). Or they have to be ranked higher than the Big East Champion to get a bid(West Virgina has a pretty good running attack).

I dont know if these rules are perfectly correct but I know its around there since this was all everyone was talking about in Boise last year. I will try to find the rules.

Primetime21

* The top two teams are given automatic berths in the BCS National Championship Game.
* The champions of the ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-10, and SEC conferences are guaranteed automatic BCS bowl appearances.
* The highest ranked champion of a non-BCS conference will receive an automatic berth if:
o It is ranked in the top twelve, or
o Ranked in the top sixteen and higher than another BCS Conference champion.
* A special case is made for independent Notre Dame, which receives an automatic berth if they finish in the top eight.
* The third-ranked team will receive an automatic berth, if it has not already received one.

A little bit off on my preception of rules but here they are. And BSU can still win conference and screw hawaii.

slatons done; 13 carries? 2 in the second half because of being tired/cramps?

idk if scott reads this board, but either him or someone with more draft knowledge can anwer this (prob not thread worthy):

will teams question slatons heart? in our 2 biggest games the past two year, slaton has been injured in crucial times ("no feeling" in arm of ul game and missed the whole 3rd quarter, and now hardly playin the 2nd half cuz of cramps/tiredness) could this affect his draft status? we we're down in both and it seems he gets injured; maybe he doesnt like adversity?

This obvious lack of conditioning is alarming. A player of his skill has to be preparing for the next level but it appears he isn't training too hard

which is weird considering thats usually our strength (conditioning); thats what i heard about why he only got 2 carries in the second half

i mean, i dont like rodriguez as a coach (cuz he hasnt heard of the forward pass), but he cant be that dumb to only give him 2 carries; so id have to believe thats true; if anyone watched the game on tv, did the announcers say anything about it

I watched every snap of the game. It wasn't Colt's fault for all of them. Twice WRs popped the ball up in the air bouncing it off thier hands, another was deflected off a blocker's helmet when he got in the way, and another due to the WR running the wrong route. I'd blame one of them on Colt... the first one. Great play by the corner to intercept the ball.

This is turning into the year with no Heisman. Who are they gonna give it to? McFadden? Booty and Tebow are pretty much eliminated now, and LSU doesn't really have any superstar players, they're just a great team with a great defense (and a 2 QB system no less). Ohio State is the same thing as LSU. Desean Jackson can get it I guess if he has some huge games coming up, especially against SC.

Yes, but it's Anthony Morelli. That alone cancels out that theory. I mean, come on, I love Michigan and all, BUT HE LED PENN STATE TO 9 POINTS AGAINST THE SAME DEFENSE THAT GAVE UP 34 TO APPALACHIAN STATE! Not really. What exactly has tOSU proven that Penn St hasn't? You pointing out that Michigan matches up better with and was better prepared for the Nittany Lions than they were for App St doesn't really have an effect on the match up between tOSU and Penn St. It definitely doesn't shoot down his "theory" that PSU is at least capable of competing with tOSU. Sure, Ohio St is the clear favorite, but to pretend as though this game is already in the bag is silly. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the Buckeyes lose 2 or even 3 of their 5 remaining games. Not saying I think that will happen, but it shouldn't surprise anybody but the clueless if it does. Regardless of what you think of Morelli, it shouldn't be an easy victory in Happy Valley.

So give the Heisman to Taylor Bennett, Anthony Morelli, Ryan Mallett, Bryan Hoyer and Curtis Painter because they've all beaten ND too. Why would ND be a measuring stick? They're 1-6 with one of the most inept offenses in the country and the only reason their pass defense is ranked so highly is because teams don't need to pass on them because their run D is even worse.

For example, Mallett was 7-15 for 90 yards and 3 TD, yet Michigan won 38-0. The reason? Mike Hart had 35 carries, 187 yards, 5.3 ypc and 2 TD. ND is an awful measuring stick, and I don't just say that because I'm a Michigan fan. That was one of the worst arguments I've heard, ever.

Yeah actually I do. But I'm just saying that it's still gonna be a lot of other kids out there fighting hard for a victory. This will be the biggest game some of them have ever played, and it will be in front of their home crowd. All it takes is a few big plays on special teams or defense and before you know it the score is 21-24 heading into the 4th. Don't get me wrong, I'll be picking the buckeyes to win this one. But let's not act like they're unbeatable. This isn't Kent St or Northwestern here. They need to beat a few contenders before they should be feared by even the mediocre teams. Yeah GT is an enigma to me. But I do believe they have a lot of talent on defense. Yeah, he had one touchdown, but led his team on 4 scoring drives. Play calling is often what decides who gets the TD's. He was obviously able to move the ball with ease. The fact that he had 0 interceptions is impressive. Like I said, I didn't watch the game. But the stat line on the road against a quality defense is impressive. But that's really the only game I can point to that stood out to me. I really haven't seen much of this guy at all. Grothe? I dunno man, he looked downright bad against WVU. Kinda tough to win a Heisman without putting up a few numbers here and there. He's on pace for a whopping 14 TD's. Not sure that will cut it. And don't give me that undefeated crap. Everybody who's followed SF this year knows that the defense has been winning the ballgames. RAT 149.4 | YDS 1,805 | TD 17 | 7 INT

Todd Reesing is a sophmore who has played one game out of the state of Kansas this year, and has also played one of the easiest schedules.

Rudy Carpenter is just not the main piece of the ASU offense they have 3 runningbacks who avg over 5 yards per carry. Not taking nothing away from Rudy at all, but so far the offense has showed that they have more of a rush game then pass game

Matt Ryan has easily played the hardest schedule out of them 3, and has a legit road win over Georgia Tech. His numbers arent unreal, but they are pretty good.
