The Ravens reached an agreement on a one-year contract extension on Thursday with quarterback Kyle Boller, reports NFL Network's Adam Schefter. Boller is now under contract with Baltimore through the 2008 season.

Boller is expected to sign the contract on Friday. Exact terms are not known, but Boller's extension is known to be worth more than $3 million.

The deal likely eliminates any chance that Baltimore would sign free-agent quarterback Byron Leftwich, whom Jacksonville released Saturday.

This further drills home my point that nobody would be clammoring for Leftwich after he got released. The NFL just doesn't work that way.

hmm I thought they would do this. Assuming this is McNairs last season. Bring Boller in just to have a person who knows the system, sign Leftwich who Newsome loved coming out of college. and have a QB battle between Leftwich Boller and Smith.

what is everybody thoughts on that.

... Why haven't the Falcons signed Leftwich? Do they want to ensure themselves the no. 1 overall pick to get Brohm?

I didn't think he would want to stay in Baltimore. Maybe he doesn't think anyone else will offer him more than what the Ravens are giving him. Still it seems like he needs a fresh start in a new city.

Believe it or not Kyle actually loves the organization and the city so its really not a surprise he chose to stay.

It was a joke...

Can't really joke with Ravens fans they get so pissed off...

If Boller is so sweet though, how come he had to be replaced by McNair and only was extended to 2008?

My guess is to provide insurance for McNair for next year if McNair stays.

I dont buy into things like that except w/ Tedford there have been a ton of QB that didn't turn out good and Tedford has their college coach.

Because Bill Musgrave is the QB coach. He was the offensive coordinator in Jacksonville, and they did not get along. At all.

Nobody is signing Leftwich, because if they do, they'd have to guarantee his $5 million salary. If they wait until next week, they only have to guarantee 25% of his salary.

I've always been a big Boller fan, btw. Billick just threw him into the fire too soon.

I tend to agree with you. We threw Kyle in there way too early and I think it has stunted his growth as a player. I think a lot of his mental lapses are caused from his first couple years when he was getting picked apart. I think that has hurt his confidence in a way that would not have happened had he not been thrown in so early.

No, we can't have that then I'd have to root against him.

I'm curious to see where Leftwich lands.

maybe they have a lot faith in joey harringtons abilities which is hard to believe and i think it would take something like an 0-5 start or an injury to even have em consider signing leftwich

Of course it's very early, but I have the feeling the Ravens will be picking too low to draft Johnson.

Then again the Broncos managed to trade up for Cutler so you never know.

Well the Ravens have been wheeling and dealing picks as of late (the last 2 seasons) so it wouldn't be surprising.

Don't bank on that, I've seen nothing to make me think we are a great team yet.

No but the only thing I can say is all lost on D was Thomas, McNairs another year older in the system, though it's also another year older in life not good, picked up McGahee, beefed up our o-line, and we have a hard ass schedule and hopefully that helps to motivate us...

As for Boller 18-16 as a starter and I don't Like those odds, while he has one more then he has lost, I just dont like them odds...

HE is still young, and I think 5 years from now..who ever has him (CFL, arena, NFL) will be pleased with his results.
