Bills tight end Kevin Everett was carted off the Ralph Wilson Stadium field with a neck injury early in the second half.

The Bills confirmed late Sunday evening that Everett was in surgery. Bills Head Coach Dick Jauron said Everett suffered a "cervical-spinal" injury but would not talk about the seriousness of his condition, or if he was able to move at any point en route to the hospital.

2 On Your Side has confirmed Everett has been taken to Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital in Buffalo.

The injury occurred on the opening kickoff of the second half. Everett fell to the ground after a helmet-to-helmet hit on Denver's Domenik Hixon. He showed no signs of consciousness and was eventually loaded onto an ambulance.

The young tight end out of Miami was expected to have an increased role with the offense and special teams this season."

I find it terrible that NFL.com has NOTHING about this.

My Prayers are with Everett and his family

some good news

At 9:45 p.m., as he was leaving Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital, Bills' tight end Ryan Neufeld (http://fantasyfootball.usatoday.com/content/player.asp?sport=NFL&id=2289) told Buffalo's WIVB-TV the surgery "went well as far as we can tell and he's recovering right now."

Sucks. I've been through this a couple of times with the Lions and it blows.

Prayers to him - hopefully he can come out of this like Lions LB Reggie Brown, who nearly died on the field in 1997 but thanks to quick medical response and then-brand-new drugs was able to make a nearly full recovery although he never played football again.

Everett probably won't play again either - playing on repaired spinal discs in your neck is just too much of a risk - but here's hoping he returns to full functionality as a person, or if not, that he finds a road of fulfillment through helping others like Mike Utley.

does anyone have a clip of the play? i turned on the game when they were attending to him and they didn't show a replay. i also have been watching highlights for the last 12 hours and haven't seen a replay. are they just not showing the hit or am i just constantly missing it?

I just saw the hit, and it wasnt Helmet to Helmet, he just put his head down and got hit hard with the shoulder pad. They removed bone chips from his spine, they said from ESPN News, and if he brokes his 3,4, and 5th vertabrae he'll most likly be paralized for life...

They just had a News Break on the Buffalo Stations here in WNY and it was about Kevin Everett. They said he will probably only have 5-10% to be back to normal. It somewhat sounded like that they are saying he might not walk again. Just keep Praying for him.

This is the worst injury since I've started following football, I really hope he can recover, he will be in my prayers. :(

anyone who is too caught up in emotion, please don't read the following, it might upset you, even if that isn't my goal.

Here is what the logical side of me is saying:

1) Although tye are saying only 5-10 percent chance, I'm sure its more, doctors dont' want to give false hope.

2) This is a prime example that coaches need to teach players how to tackle properly. If you watched the video, his head was down, which gives an opportunity for a vertabrae to get crushed. If Everett lead with his head back and up, he may have gottan a sore neck, but nothing more.

:( but as I said earlier, may he recover fully, he's in my prayers

Yeah... far be it from me to take anything away from God, but the doctor who spoke on ESPN mentioned a new procedure called "partial hypothermia" or something, that lowers the temperature of the body and prevents the swelling in the spinal cord from getting worse. Apparently Everett received this treatment at the earliest stage of spinal injury on record, and this is what prevented him from being totally paralyzed or even dying.

He went on to say that this procedure has been developed with the help of The Miami Project, a charity-driven research group started by former Dolphin Nick Buoniconti after his son was paralyzed in a football game.

So, again, prayer is nice and all, but God helps those who help themselves.

oh please... is this the praise jesus thread on Godforum? I thought not.

I find it humorous that the first thing people post is, oh prayers sent, keeping him in my thoughts, blah blah blah, and then when there's good news it turns into (insert religion here) bashing time on the godsucksforum when someone mentions the effectiveness of said prayers/thoughts. No matter what you believe in(god, karma, etc) there is something powerfully moving about a group of strangers coming together to help someone in need. No one asked you to send a prayer, so there's no need for the hatred towards those who hold different belief systems than you.

With that said, I'm ecstatic he's doing better but he has a LONG road ahead of him. Here's hoping for a speedy and full recovery for this young man.
