In n Out's prices have gone up considerably. A Double Double is $4.90 now - same as Five Guys' Big Cheeseburger. Burger, fries, and drink will put you up around $7-8, which was the same I paid yesterday at Five Guys.

Sad but true.

And the lines around I&O still go around the block at lunchtime daily, proof that it's one of if not the best burger & fries very bad for you but tastes so damn good lunch around.

McDonald's still has a 6-piece nuggets for $0.99 on Mondays around here. I gave up fast food for a long time, but $3 for 12 nuggets and a small fries is hard to pass up.

Same, they are good once in awhile and in moderation. My mom loves chocolate, I can't understand why. Can only have so much before I get sick of it.

In other news, root beer is delicious.

ElectricEye

No, I definitely agree that I can't have sweets that much. Some types of cookies I can seemingly pound away, but I normally don't crave much. My sister worked in a bakery so there was always tons around and the rest of my family went nuts for it, but it was not stuff that I could have that much of it.

I really don't know how some people eat the way they do. I come in to work at 9:30 in the morning and my co-workers are eating candy and drinking pop. I just cringe.

Meh, it's just a lot of bread that generally isn't overly tasty. I can get down with Krispy Kreme or Jelly if it's packed well though.

But I'm on board with these all the time.

Atomic Buffalo Turds = best thing evah.

Fire up your charcoal grill (gas or oven is fine, but smoke = better)

Slice some fresh jalapenos in half. Remove the seeds and fiber.

Take some cream cheese and mix it with a little bit of cumin, some paprika, garlic powder (and whatever else you'd like).

Fill each half with the cream cheese mix.

Take some thin (no thick cut at all) bacon and wrap a full to half a piece around each jalapeno. Secure with a toothpick.

Cook these effers on the grill until the bacon is crisp.

I'll let you guys figure out how much of what, but I usually use 12 jalapenos and 4-6 oz of cream cheese mix. It depends on how big the jalapenos are, etc... I usually use 12 pieces of thin bacon that I cut in half.

You can pay me in one billion rep points after you eat these.

TELL US MORE!

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups unbleached all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup smooth peanut butter
3/4 cup (packed) light brown sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 large egg, room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup jelly or jam
2/3 cup coarsely chopped salted dry-roasted peanuts

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter the bottom and sides of a 8 by 8 inch baking pan. Put a long piece of parchment paper in the bottom of the pan, letting the parchment extend up two sides of the pan and overhang slightly on both ends.
In a small bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in small bowl; set aside.
In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat peanut butter, brown sugar, and butter until smooth. Scrape down bowl and add egg and vanilla; beat on low speed until smooth. Scape down bowl and add flour mixture; beat on low speed just to blend. Transfer about two thirds of the dough to prepared pan (about 2 cups). Place remaining dough in freezer for 10 minutes. Use your hands to push the dough into an even layer at the bottom of the pan. Spread jelly over dough in even layer. Remove reserved dough from freezer and crumble grape-size pieces over jelly layer. Sprinkle with chopped nuts.
Bake bars until top is golden brown, about 30-40 minutes. Cool bars completely in pan on rack. I prefer them cooled even more in the fridge after they have cooled to room temp.

One of my favorites snacks ever:

Tostitos Scoops
1 can Turkey Chili
Shredded Cheese
Potatoes (Boiled, usually skip this step since it's the longest one)

Place scoops in bowl (one layer)
fill scoops with chili
place cheese over chili
work on next layer (same way)
Microwave for 2.5 mins

Eat.

Pretty much a gimme at my place while watching sports
Use a spoon/fork once the chips become too soggy to use as a scoop

All the time, love it!

Are you using a raw dough? Or store bought pre-made? Either is fine really. If you are using raw dough, one trick is to warm up you evoo in the microwave for about 30 secs before you put it on the dough. It'll help it stick better. I will usually throw a little garlic in the evoo when I warm it up. Then I'll use it for the dough and the grill. Also remember not to load it up to much with stuff. That'll help it cook more even. Also, if you can find the freshest Mozzarella you can to use, all the better. Fresh, it will absorb that smoke soooo much better and it'll just turn out badass. lol

Fresh, it will absorb that smoke soooo much better and it'll just turn out badass. lol

Pre-made, I think. Not entirely sure, sort of just winging it at lunch time today. Thanks for the tips though.

I remember I posted a while back that I hate oatmeal. Man has that changed. I used to eat straight plain instant oatmeal with nothing in it, when I used to eat really healthy. bleh. But yeah, I revisted oatmeal...but I purchased flavored oatmeals for the first time ever. Amazing. Strawberries and creme, brown sugar, apples and cinnamon. Soooooo good.

Speaking of eating healthy...been hitting the weights again. Bulked for a while, but I'm now cutting. Cardio up, calories way down. I'm a little under a month in. Have cut 9 lbs, suprisingly quickly. Looking pretty cut for beach season. :D

But a drawback...when my bad food cravings kick in, and they do frequently. It absolutely kills me. I want chinese food real bad, I want a huge ass bacon cheeseburger, and some soft serve ice cream. You get specific when you really start feeling these cravings.

I do plan on breaking this diet in June, though. Plan on going to an amusement park with my friends, and I want some ice cream, dammit.

But right now, I'm living off of...

oatmeal
greek yogurt
bananas
strawberries
a wide assortment of side veggies
boneless, skinless chicken breast
baked potatoes (a veggie, but more prominent in my diet)
kidney beans (same as baked potatoes)
protein bars
turkey on wheat
eggs with no yolks
some processed healthy choice steamer meals
post workout fruit juice (apple or orange)
WATER (gotta pee all the time)

The only dairy I'm getting is from yogurt. I havent had milk or cheese in a month. Dairy cravings can be real bad, too. The only condiment I use is hot sauce. The diet can actually be fairly high in sodium...in things like the flavored oatmeal, processed foods, and protein bars. But it hasnt been enough to hinder my results.

But yeah, eating small meals every 2-3 hours, keeping the metabolism going. It's been working beautifully. It's not all bad, I just miss food.

lol. I also bought about $40 worth of Easter candy, on clearance for like $10 and I havent even touched it. :(

njx9
05-22-2011, 09:41 PM
if it were steak, i'd totally agree. but i think burgers turn out far better on a flat top. for starters, you generally want a better crust, and the maillard reaction works better on a flat, super hot surface. second, to get the crispy outside (for a thin style), you get a better 'fry' effect, from the burger basically confitting itself.

now, if i'm making a 'gourmet' style burger, then i'll generally use the grill, because it's easier to get a perfect medium rare, though you generally lose some part of the crust as a result.

also, TIL that you should actually flip the burger like you have OCD. every 15 seconds, even.

njx9
08-31-2011, 09:23 AM
sure, it sounds like you end up spending around $1.5m for a mcdonalds franchise, though a fair amount of that is in owning the property? at chik-fil-a, you apparently can't own the property, which should cut costs. i'm guessing you're still responsible for buying all of the equipment/supplies. on the other hand, if the link is correct about 50% of *profit*, you can probably deduct those costs. so there may be some upfront money needed, but you'd get it back relatively quickly.

then again, you apparently can't select your location. so they'd probably give me like, scoville ave in cleveland or something.

I had fried chicken and waffles tonight. Amazing. My question is, what's the "proper" way to eat this? Am I supposed to just drench it all in syrup? I keep them separate and generally just rotate bites.

Italian place in dc called Dino. First bite took me right back to Tuscany/Florence. Also had a "tuscan" bahn mi app that was crostini with pâté, pork head terrine, prosciutto and pickled veggies.

I'm going to have to check this place out.

Good pernt. Still, you'd think that a Hotlanta fan would know one of the basic cultural things about Hotlanta.

Cool stuff. Where does one get such a thing?

amazon. and lemon foam actually taste great and adds a nice subtle flavor where a heavy sauce isnt needed.

I think its personal preference. I had chicken and waffles this past weekend also at Birch and Barley in dc and i combo'd mine. One piece of chicken and a cut of waffle dipped in maple chicken jus.

There is a local chain called Quesa-D-Ya's in the Dallas area. Their food is so good and I am so full right now.

so I tasted Texas Pete Chipotle sauce man its good.

Also a nice spread i tried, since i like making random things, Chipotle sauce, ketchup, mayo and some sambal(a little bit, unless you love fire in ur mouth), whip it up makes a nice dip, or spread. Add liquid smoke for more of a smokey flavor.

Also a sandwich I made super good.
So I made my simple PB and J on wheat, but I added a little honey, since I thought the jelly was to sour(sugar free). Well it made it to sweet, thinking to make it better I added pickles and then some hot sauce. Took a bite, man that is the greatest PB&J sandwich i ate.
I tried with Dill pickles and the bread and butter sandwich pickles, prefer the the butter pickles.

Try it, its Ah-Mah-zing.

yeah it probably does, but i can't eat onion or garlic.

So I make a lot of my own stuff, or just read labels and get excited when i find some things.

Thanks to Brent for the graphic.

Maybe we should photoshop a NE Patriots helmet on the one at the left, Kraft Foods..

And a Jets helmet on Johnson & Johnson, as in Woody Johnson, the guy who sign's Ryan's paycheck.

And we could go on & on about HJ Heinz Field & ketchup all over a Steelers pukey-yellow throwback helmet too.....:frog:

Oh my god...that A Hamburger Today blog is the best thing on the internet. I'm printing off their piece on Detroit Sliders and taking it with me the next time I go back to Michigan.

That seals it. If I ever win the powerball, I'm going on a 365 day tour of American burger joints.
