You ever been to the Italian Grotto in Old Town. It is a poor man's Buca de Bepo and isn't ridiculously overpriced, but has a nice romantic atmosphere.

I go back and forth between NNY and Buffalo Wild Wings for my favorite spot on wings, and yes I've been to the Grotto and it's awesome, but she wanted steak and that's what she's getting.

Barilla is head and shoulder the best pasta in the world... Someone prefer Voiello, but Barilla is classic. Is it easy to find pasta Barilla in the US?
And for the sauce, Cirio is money. They make the best tomato's stuff in the world, really.

Yeah, Ronzoni is Barilla's biggest competitor over here, but they suck. It takes an extra couple minutes depending on the variety, and it's a lot more difficult to achieve al dente. Barilla is on the money every time. Never seen any products from Cirio or Voiello. I usually make some kind of homemade sauce. Have yet to find anything in a jar that is worth the money over here.

I guess Ronzoni isn't an italian product, but they just use an italian name...
By the way, Cirio doesn't produce ready-sauce (I don't know the english word for that), they produce what we called "pomodori pelati", "passata di pomodoro"... I don't know how do you call these things, but they're simply tomatos without the peel, seeds etc...
Of course you just can't put them in the pasta and you have the sauce, you have to make the sauce by yourself. And the secret for a good sauce is using a good tomato, and doing it with love :P

Ah, yeah I though it was kinda odd that you'd be using the pre-made stuff. My bad. Yeah that's the same way I make my sauce. With canned tomatoes and other goodies. I agree, cooking is all about the quality of your ingredients. A great cook will just let the food speak for itself.

I'd do it if it weren't so expensive (over $300 for the whole deal). Actually, it's really not expensive considering what it can do, but I'm a linguistic aficionado, so I'd probably end up wanting to learn more languages than my wallet (or my time for that matter) could handle.

I wrote it out wrong. I meant what are other big name fast food restaurants. I forgot to add that those are the only 3 around Buffalo

Arby's is in full delicious effect

Is Ted's Hot Dogs only Buffalo based, or is it around the country?

Ted's and Louie's Texas Red Hots are both Buffalo based.

However, it is ALL about Louie's Original Footlong Hot Dogs on Elmwood. Of course I'll almost never actually get a hot dog there, but its definitely the best.

I've been gonig to Jim's Steakout a lot more lately, they have poutine now but it, while still really good, just doesnt seem like it should be. I need to get up to Canada soon.

Really? I mean...yes. I knew that.

Speaking of Socrates, has anyone ever had Greek food? I think I have been to a Greek restaurant like once, but I forgot what I ate there.

I've been to a greek restaurant once. The only thing I remember is that they put yogurt and garlic everywhere!
Speaking of ethnic food, I like Mexican and Brasilian food.

Adding a question to duckseason's one, have you ever used a fireplace to cook your stuff? I think it's the best way to cook meat...
In the US do you like pork? In my area, pork, is the most used and eat meat, we like to eat horses too.
And have you ever tried argentine beef? The best beef in the world, without a doubt.

actually yah, when i'm not on the road (which is like 4/7 days) and i'm not lazy (which is still 2 of every 7 days)...

I normally cook before football, depending on when the bears play.

Nice. You gotta put some crust on that bad boy though. Try this-

Bring steak to room temp (this is key) and season liberally with salt and pepper (or that montreal stuff, which is the same thing but with spices.) Get your cast iron skillet smoking hot on the stove with just a touch of canola oil in there. Lay that cowchunk in there and let it sear for a few minutes without touching it. Flip steak once it has achieved a nice crust and place the skillet in a 400 degree oven until desired doneness. Should be about 5-8 minutes for a one to one and a quarter inch steak. Allow steak to rest on the plate for at least 10 minutes (this is key) before you cut into it. Well, that's how I like my ribeyes at least. Gotta have that seared crustiness on the outside with soft juicy meat on the inside. Kinda like how DG likes his women, but tastier.

^I'd eat some pasta/spaghetti/baked potato. They have a lot of carbs, and you slowly burn them out during the game.

WHAT IS WITH EVERYONE TONIGHT! JESUS CHRIST!
MARY AND JOSEPH!

i think on that note. i'm going to sleep.

2 pounds of crab legs isn't that much though.
but enough to make me feel like a major glutton.
you know it's bad when you ask for thirds.

Couldn't help myself. But yeah, 2lbs of crab legs doesn't yield a ton of meat. Sounds good as hell right now though. I was just talking to my brother who lives out there and he said one of the things he misses most about Oregon is fresh seafood. I'm sure you guys have somewhere to get the good stuff, right?

ah, it's alright.
and no, hell no. seafood out here is crappy. i went to a local bar with my parents (seeing as they're recruiting me to go do a website for their new business, like i don't have enough to do), and they were like ris, come out for all you can eat crabs with us. not like i was expecting much, but it was some ****** sports bar with slutty gross waitresses who don't know ****, and they had the ohio st/penn state game on half the tvs and i wanted to smack someone...

i also know something very true.

i can't eat too much soft things without crunchy things. i ordered a side of potato chips with my crab legs. and that was a good idea. salty chips. sweet and buttery crabbbbbbb...

lots and lots of beer. some crappy local brewery.

I see. Yeah, I would hate it out there. All muggy in the summer and cold in the winter. And I can't live without good seafood. Not sure I'd feel comfortable ordering crab at some crappy bar. And I agree about the crunchy/soft thing. If I make a sandwich that doesn't have any crunchy vegetables on it, I've got to slap on some chips or something to give it some pop.

Bacon Mushroom Melt is easily the best burger ever produced by a fast food chain.

I was hoping the Jalapeno burger would be on a similar level when it first came out, but it just wasn't. So now I'm still in waiting for them to bring back the BMM.

When I was in college I spent so much time at Panera, bread, buy a cup for $1.50, and I would spend 8+ hours there using their free wi-fi to do homework and with my $1.50 cup I would refill their great 4 selection of coffee at least 12 times and eat their free bread samples. Their sandwiches are pretty good too.

Jones pop (soda) is amazing. Especially the cream soda

The only thing I dont like there are the pickles. At the one near my house, they taste like chlorine...

I thought I would like Jones, but I just don't. I can't even drink the pure cane stuff. Other stuff is still nowhere near as good as IBC or Stewart's.

Where is the nearest Panera Bread in the south towns area? I thought I remember seeing one at Mckinley Mall, but I could be wrong.

Lived at my place for a over two years now, and I now just found a diner that actually makes a great fried catfish and chicken fried steak for cheap.
