Here's that 1999 album encompassing the best of the Buffy bands, including their Whedon-anointed fave Velvet Chain.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffy_the_Vampire_Slayer:_The_Album

Radio Sunnydale had bigger name bands but nowhere the quality of songs IMO. CCSD will enjoy it that most of the new teen bands introduced in the early season usually onstage at The Bronze were from San Diego, but not VC who are all from LA except for frontwoman singer Erika Amato who's a Jersey transplant & trying to be an anctress now. If you look very closely, their black & yellow 1st album cover (Warm) is a sticker on many of the Sunnydale HS lockers & backpacks.

Also Darling Violetta (whose CD sucked) maybe from SD, chk me on that. I think Whedon handpicked most of them from Sunset Blvd. nightclubs.

CC.SD

I don't think Darling Violetta is from SD, although I did see them at a club in Orange County once. But it's true some of the local talent did end up on the Bronze stage.

I've never seen a single second of the dancing show, but I'm a Jimmy Kimmel fan. If it wasn't for Kimmel's monologue, like the post above, I wouldn't have known Shannen Doherty still existed.

The Stan Lee cameo & the fortune teller with the 3rd nipple did it for me....oh wait, it's a TV thread.

Shannen Doherty is the most dangerous date in Hollywood. She sucker-punches & then thinks about it afterward. True story: returning from her 1st marriage Hawaii honeymoon, she & new husband checked themselves straight into the ER b/c they beat the crap out of each other, lots of stitches & antibiotics involved. Some girls get off on open wounds & bruises.....

And her replacement on the very bad witch series Charmed, Rose McGowan, is so much hotter. Better actress too.

What else would you call him?

Whistler6
04-05-2010, 09:19 PM
When Larry David and Ricky Gervais were unable to make Marriage Ref funny, there is no chance for success. I'm pretty sure the only reason they have decent ratings, if it does(?), is because it follows Community-Parks and Rec-The Office-30 Rock.

Another complaint, the show advertises Jerry Seinfeld for several months. He shows up for 2 episodes then disappears so marriage-failures like Kirstie Alley and Madonna can fill in.

If I find out Chuck doesn't come back, I'm going to...um...probably come on here and ***** about it. It would be a travesty though!

That would be redundant -- Canada is a freezer.

The last Justified was very good IMO. SPOILER ALERT: There's an LA road trip involved, but some tank trap-sized craters in the plotline. They can only fit so much in an hr. show. There were some supporting players performances that were just terrific, & you can hear exec. producer Elmore Leonard's fingerprints in the sarcastic dialog, just great stuff.

BTW TV Guide mag gave these kudos to their premier episode Fire In the Hole, short story on which it's based:

Cheers to Justified for doing right by Walton Goggins (who played racist bomber Boyd Crowder). The intensely talented actor who was unjustly denied an Emmy nomination for his searing work on The Shield (also on FX) ...... now if Goggins gets an Emmy nod that would truly be Justified.

Remember Goggins from The Shield? That bucktoothed overbite & gangly physique, he looks like an inbred neo-Nazi from Kentucky... his line at teh dinner table was classic:

"Damn, woman! Doncha ever shoot anybody except when they're eatin' supper?"

Speaking of Emmys, I hope the writing team & Olyphant from Justified get some recognition, but let's get real here -- nobody is going to touch Cranston as Walter White in Breaking Bad for best dramatic series actor, he's won it the 2 previous yrs.

Leonardo Leonardo......great character or GREATEST character?

Not only is he great, but he recognized the greatness of the kid in the helmet.

Phil Hartman was just so great. A great person, one of my favorite SNL cast members, and he voiced the greatest recurring Simpsons character of all time.

This whole page makes me yearn for great TV. I agree with whoever called AD the best. Because it is... the best.

Action also. It was hilarious for the 6 episodes it was on.

Brodeur you're so wrong about Seinfeld I don't know where to start. Yes the first 4 episodes weren't good but you could see the bright spots. Also, CYE is great but it's just a continuation because of Seinfeld. Who knows if AD was on for 10+ years if it would have been funny.

Firefly

Freaks and Geeks

Undeclared

Clerks: The Animated Series

Dirty Sexy Money (I blame the writers strike)

The Black Donnellys (could have been a great show given time)

I am sure I am missing some.

EDIT: Best ******* one of them all, Arrested Development.

Firefly, Clerks, Arrested Development all cancelled WAY too early.

Black Donnellys is 14 episodes of awesome. Its right up there with Firefly for shows of mine that shouldnt of been cancelled. Its awesome in every sense of the word

I'll add Newsradio with Phil Hartman to the list. I loved that show. Phil Hartman was brilliant.

Awesome cast but terrible writing for the show. I watched season one and thought they could have done a much better job with the plot.

Undeclared was funny and I enjoyed it but man how could you leave Freaks & Geeks out? I always found Undeclared to basically be F&G lite. Freaks was not only funny, but it was so much more then that too.

Freaks and Geeks is awesome. I'll pop in the DVDs at least once a year and rewatch that. Sports Night too, which was canceled way too early.

I have downloaded and re-watched all of Action (I did that about a year ago). It just got worse as the season went on. If I just stopped with the pilot, it would have been nice, but when you watch the whole season, just the first six, you see why it was canceled.

Glee is better than Party Down anyway. A bigger problem is that Scott's going to leave the main cast if the show gets a 3rd season.

I've been regularly watching it.

It's one of those shows that sometimes you really can't tell whether it is good or bad. The acting is sketchy at best and the accents are terrible. But on the other hand the fight scenes are so awesome!

The Rockford Files - Terrific classic '70s detective show
Tenspeed & Brownshoe - Intro to the awesomeness that is Jeff Goldblum, + a pre-auto collision Ben Vereen
Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman
Lou Grant - Mary T. Moore spinoff that was 100 times better, forced off the air after one season when CBS knuckled under to Reagan pressure in 1981, no one really believed it was b/c of poor ratings
Fridays - SNL imitation that introed Michael Richards, & Nat E. Dredd, the Rastaman stoner
Freaks & Geeks
Square Pegs - "I love the dark, the dark is good...."
Miami Vice -- MTV Cops!
Beavis & Butthead
Twin Peaks -- David Lynch in all his stellar freakiness
Daria -- B&B spinoff about the "Misery Chick"
Playmakers - Allegedly too close to NFL reality for comfort so the league pressured it off ESPN after a yr..... allegedly
Firefly - The show Joss Whedon wanted to do before Buffy became big box office

I want to know why it's hilarious for a 40 year old woman to spill all over a 16 year old kid, even as a joke, but if it was Jimmy Fallon flirting with Miley Cyrus the world would explode.
