View Full Version : Southern California is on fire
SuperKevin

There are 3 MAJOR wildfires in southern California right now that have 0% containment. One in Malibu has already killed 1 person and injured 8. One in Ramona(18 miles east of my house. I can smell the smoke) has already killed one and injured 4. One near the Mexican Border is also very dangerous.

I keep reading about those fires and on the local news (New Orleans) they just showed the fire chief in Malibu discussing the fires. They said it was caused by a downed power line or something like that.

ya this is worse than katrina
I know. It's amazing how both disasters have occurred by opposite elements. Water and Fire. You have to wonder if Gi and Wheeler from Captain Planet are still going through puberty and their ring powers are getting the better of them. Gi's demolition of New Orleans was brutal but let's see if Wheeler can outdo her.

The one in Malibu was. The one in Ramona i think I heard was caused by a cigarette. That's why they made it illegal to throw cigarettes from cars. If you witness it in CA you can call a 1-800 number and give the person's car and liscence plate and get them a 250 dollar ticket

Didn't know that. You can get a $150 ticket for throwing a cigarette out of you car window here. I thought it was crazy because usually the police don't care if you do it but a friend of mine got pulled over and given a ticket because of it.

Not so sure about that. If the polar ice caps continue melting a lot of heavily-populated areas will be underwater.
Nevermind.
Sorry Kev.

this stuff is scary, i had a fire less than a mile from my house so we had to start getting ready to evacuate, but thank god they got it out. now there is another huge one in canyon country and it is less than 4 miles away and it doesn't help that there are like 40 mph winds right now. that fire has already burned 10,000+ acres too

Start packing your valuables and have a camera ready to take pics for insurance purposes. Also, gathering as many bills and etc as you can is a good idea.

while i'm normally all for people who don't know what they're actually talking about discussing political issues on a website where it's specifically prohibited (and don't try that "it's just science" bull****, we all know it leads directly to politics), in this case, the next person who discusses it here will spend some time in timeout. again. there are a million and a half websites out there where you can either get put in your place by people who know what they're talking about or where you can find a bunch of yes-people who will agree no matter how stupid you sound where you can go post about politics and political issues to your little heart's content. this board is not, has never been and will never be that place.
Well, I pretty much have to give you that "it's just science b/s" because nobody has talked about politics at all that I've read.

I think that over 3/4 of the chargers players and coaches were affected by the fires. Just to name a few other people, I know for a fact that Phil Mickelson, Trevor Hoffman, Bruce Bochy, and Tony Gwynn all had to evacuate aswell. I live in San Diego, but I'm fortunate to live in a place where the fires aren't really threatening where I live.

Weird observation. I am watching footage of the helicopters/sky cranes filling up buckets in the local resevoirs to dump onto the fire. Why don't they just go to the ocean to get water? It's a much more abundant source
Edit: The minute I posted this I realized dumping that much salt water would kill all the vegetation that didn't burn

I currently attend UC San Diego and today they announced that school was cancelled for the week...so pretty much everybody went home...there was a fire about 20 miles from the school, but the main issue was that the winds were going westward thus pushing all the smoke over UCSD making the air a health hazzard...its pretty serious stuff and Im just glad to be safe at home...good luck to anyone who is in danger
