Giants Add Pieces to the Championship Puzzle

The Giants did not make the splash in free agency that they had hoped, but the molding of the team to championship caliber has taken path.

"Well, the powers that be have not allowed us to acquire our #1 target, Asante Samuel. However, he will be the one that feels the pain when he realizes that he is indeed playing in the right stadium, but wearing the wrong jersey. The Jets' franchise does not compare to that of the Giants and he will realize how big of a mistake he made once he realizes that he must be so, so close to being on the top team in New York, yet so far away" said Jerry Reese with a smirk. "We really do not have that many gaping holes on this team, we just needed some new role players that could help overturn the overall attitude of this team.

Dan Klecko-DT-2 years-$1.50
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/number10ds/klecko.gif

"It is no coincedence that Dan has been a part of arguably the two most dominant teams over the past 5-6 years. He brings intangibles that very few bring to this game. He will not see a ton of time at DT, but we plan on using him in our offensive package as an extra blocker where he has exceled to this point in his career. Also, we struggled with our play on special teams, especially with blosking assignments. Klecko is widely regarded as one of the top special team players in the league because of his relentless style of play."

Na'il Diggs-OLB-3 years-$4.75 million
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/number10ds/Diggs2.jpg

"With the injury to Arrington and our inconsistent play at WLB, Diggs was pretty high on our priority board. He has experience at both WLB and SLB and success at both spots as well. He has the strength to hold up in the run game and the speed to make plays and cover. He will be a younger, faster, stronger version of Brandon Short that will give us a ton of bang for our buck. Yet another hard working, high character player that will hit you in the mouth and scream in your face. We look forward to him competing for a starting job."

Jordan Black-OT-3 years-$5 million
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/number10ds/Black.jpg

"We feel that we have found a potential diamond in the rough here in Jordan Black, a versatile lineman that has been a key contributor to the dominant offensive lines in Kansas City. He has plenty of experience at both guard and tackle, but will most likely be the primary backup at both guard spots where he has showed to be a solid run blocker. The gaping holes you saw Larry Johnson run through the past two years have been largely due to Black. For a low price, Black will give us maximum production for money."

The Giants are not done yet according to Reese, with a few more roster spots to potentially fill before the draft.

One Gained, One Lost, and One Pending

BY BRAD BIGGS Staff Reporter

The Bears have signed their main target this offseason, Eric Steinbach. Steinbach, a former graduate of Providence Catholic High School in New Leonox, IL, was signed by the Bears today. The terms of the deal are still undisclosed, but it is reportedly for 6 years.

Eric Steinbach is from around Chicago and has always been a Bear fan. Drafted by the Bengals in the 2nd round of 2003 Draft out of Iowa, Steinbach quiclky become one of the best OG's in all of football. Things did not go well with Cincinnati concerning his contract, and he made it a priority to at least meet with the Bears. We called Steinbach ealier, and this is what he had to say.

"I am very excited to come back and play for my home town!" Steinbach said sounding extremely excited. "I spoke with my friends and family, and they're all very excited. We all were big Bears fans. I had a great talk with Lovie Smith and Jerry Angelo, and they assured me that this is the place I wanted to be. It was a no brainer really. I am excited to be able to play for a team as good as the Bears are. I am thankful for everything the Bengals have done for me and they will always be a part of me, but this is the place I want to be."

Steinbach's number with the Bengals was 65, the reverse from the 56 he wore in College, but he has agreed to wear the number 70. We asked him why.

"Well, team veteran Pat Mannelly had that number, and he has been with the Bears for a long time now and is a captain" Steinbach said, "I wouldn't feal right taking his number."
http://img104.imageshack.us/img104/2889/steinbachxs1.jpg
If you recall, Alfonso Boone used to have the number 70, but he was signed by the Saints earlier today. The Bears were interested in bringing him back, but decided to go younger and either attempt to resign Ian Scott or draft someone. But it looks like they will be drafting someone as Ian Scott turned down the Bears offer for more playing time and signed with the Rams.

"I loved Chicago," Scott said. "But I felt I wouldn't get much playing time there. With Tank, Tommie, and Dusty, they're all really talented players. Chicago will always hold a special place in my heart, but St. Louis is where I feel I can prove myself as a top DT and get the playing time I deserve."

The Bears are also waiting to here from Ruben Brown. Reportedly, the Bears have made a contract offer to Ruben Brown. Brown has been a leader on the Bears OL the past two seasons and is comming off a probowl year, his 9th ever. It is likely he will either re-sign with the Bear or retire, but early reports indicate he wants to give it another go for the championship. If he is re-signed, the Bears will have several options on what to do with the OL.

Panthers Sign June
Lock Up Their Top Two Targets

ESPN's Erin Andrews has confirmed that the Carolina Panthers have landed their second big free agent of the day, making it a clean sweep for the franchise. After inking safety Ken Hamlin to a contract earlier today the team was thrilled to hear that linebacker Cato June had accepted their offer to join the club as well. Hamlin and June were far and away Carolina's top targets on the market this year and things couldn't have worked out better for the club as they feel that they've now addressed their two biggest needs. When Draft Day rolls around the front office will now have plenty of options and won't be forced to single in on one player or position early on.

The Panthers plan to evaluate the market and see if there are any other complimentary pieces worth adding to the roster but by and large the team has accomplished what they wanted to in free agency and consider the period a tremendous success.

Associated Press Reports:

After the resigning of several key players within the Bucs organisation the Bucs are now set on moving their focus elsewhere in free agency.

The Buccaneers were able to make 5 signings in free agency so far and probably the best has come from within the organisation. Rising star defensive end Dewayne White has been signed to an undisclosed contract and will be given every opportunity to start somewhere on Tampas defensive line.
http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/28/282087.jpg

The Buccaneers were also able to resign fan favourite Mike Alstott for what seems like it could be his last hoorah. The Buccaneers will still keep there options open and are looking into signing one more FB to their roster.
http://images.nfl.com/photos/img6122188.jpg

The final player re-signed within the organisation was punter Josh Bidwell. An underrated player who was only in the probowl 2 seasons ago was signed with relative ease which the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were thoroughly grateful for.
http://images.nfl.com/photos/img9054052.jpg

The Buccaneers were also able to sign two other players thus far in free agency. Both former Eagles in Juqua Thomas and Michael Lewis.. Lewis is expected to come in and take over for safety Will Allen who has been a dissapointment for the Buccaneers and Thomas adds solid depth to an aging defensive line.

Tampa to Approach Former Pro-Bowler

In breaking news it is understood that the Buccaneers are targeting a former pro bowl player who may or may not be based in Kansas City. The player will be offered a contract almost immediately as the Buccaneers attempt to bolster a position with absolutely no current depth. This player has garnered little attention so far in free agency, so to see him sign in Tampa would be quite understandable.

Saints Targeting Edwards, Secondary
Walls, Gaye Targeted; Release Craft, Conwell

Metairie, La. -- In a move that was expected as soon as free agency began, the New Orleans Saints have offered a contract to former San Diego Charger and current free agent linebacker Donnie Edwards.

The Saints, in a move that would upgrade their inside linebacker position, have been in contact with Edward's agent throughout the night. The two sides seem to be nearing an agreement and an announcement could be made as early as tomorrow.

Last year the Saints were in the midst of trading for Donnie Edwards before San Diego officials intervened and broke things off. The highly productive linebacker has spent eleven years in the league, playing the first half of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs before signing with the San Diego Chargers in 2002.

After losing free agent Danny Clark to the Houston Texans, the Saints are in need of a productive inside linebacker. The only inside linebacker left on the roster after the departure of Clark is last year's starter Mark Simoneau. Simoneau, who played well last year, is better served in a back-up role so if the Saints are able to land Edwards it would greatly improve a unit who will have both starting outside linebackers back. Strong side linebacker Scott Fujita and recently resigned weakside linebacker Scott Shanle are both expected to start next year.

There have also been discussions around Saints camp of bringing in cornerback depth. The Saints recently signed cornerbacks Rod Hood and Jason David, but head coach Sean Payton and defensive coordinator Gary Gibbs have mentioned that they had planned on rehauling their secondary and are doing just that.

Just hours ago, barely before the ink had dried on the new contracts of Hood and David, the Saints released cornerback Jason Craft. Craft, the Saints nickel cornerback last year, has seen his speed and production diminish through the years. The thirty-one year old veteran is expected to garner minimal interest in the free agent market. With the release of Craft, the only member of the Saints secondary left over from last year is cornerback Mike McKenzie.

Players mentioned that the Saints might be interested in pursuing are cornerbacks Lenny Walls and Randall Gaye. Walls played for the Denver Broncos during the first four years of his career and last year played for the Kansas City Chiefs. Randall Gaye is a product of nearby LSU and has played with the New England Patriots for the past three season. He sat out last year with an ankle injury but is expected to make a full recovery.

The other player released by the Saints was tight end Ernie Conwell. An eleven year starter, Conwell has been hampered by injuries for the past two seasons. In 2006, he was only able to play for eight games before going down with an injury and this past year he played in only five games. He was able to come back and play sparingly in two more before reinjuring himself. Conwell, who was signed to a five year, $8.25 million contract in 2003 has been placed on injured reserve the past two seasons.

Rams refocus free agent strategy
First round of signings shakes up offseason plan
By Jim Thomas
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
02/14/2007

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v699/NickSeiler/Rams/kelsay2.jpg
Kelsay, seen here batting down a Rams pass, may soon find himself in St. Louis.

When news broke early this afternoon about the contract agreement between the St. Louis Rams and defensive tackle Ian Scott, a collective sigh of relief was heard through the hallways of Rams Park. But losing out on free agent targets Keith Traylor and Charles Grant, as both chose to resign with their previous teams, meant that the celebration of Scott’s arrival couldn’t last very long.

Scott, who will compete for the starting nose tackle job on an unimpressive St. Louis line, will arrive in town sometime Wednesday afternoon for an official press conference to announce his signing. In the meantime, the Rams were hot on the trail of a number of other free agent targets, hoping to add to the one name they’ve already put down in ink.

On the top of their list is Buffalo Bills defensive end Chris Kelsay, who reportedly was in town once again late Tuesday evening. Kelsay made a visit to Rams Park on Sunday to get a tour of the facilities and talk contract specifics, and most view a returned for a second meeting as a strong sign that Kelsay is interested in becoming a Ram. Inside sources say that the Rams like Kelsay’s size and quickness off the line, and are optimistic that when lined up opposite of an elite pass rusher like Leonard Little, Kelsay will improve on the four sack per year average he’s attained over the last three seasons.

When reached for comment, Kelsay sounded excited about the prospects of having Little rushing from the other side of the line. “I’ve been playing across from a really talented end in Aaron Schobel back in Buffalo and his presence on the line has helped free me up to make plays,” Kelsay said. “I think anyone playing across from a Pro Bowl defender like Leonard [Little] is going to find some opportunities to make something happen simply because of the attention he commands.”

Kelsay isn’t the only defender the Rams have set their sights on, though. Reports indicate that the Rams actually made late night offers on two other defensive players – defensive tackle Kenderick Allen and linebacker Napoleon Harris.

Allen, an undrafted free agent in 2003, has spent time with the Saints, Giants, and Packers, but has yet to catch on with a professional team. With only three starts in his career, Allen hasn’t had much of an opportunity to prove himself but the Rams like what they see. While no one in the Rams front office or on the coaching staff could be reached for comment when this story broke, it’s well known that the Rams want to add size to their interior defensive line, and Allen brings plenty of that. In fact, Allen is someone the Rams were interested in last spring because of his excellent size and ability to control the line. Unfortunately, the Green Bay Packers outbid the Rams for Allen, but St. Louis once again seems to be in hot pursuit of this large defensive tackle, hoping to pair him with Ian Scott for a quality duo at the nose tackle position.

Regarding Harris, the Rams have already touched base with linebacker Chris Draft and still consider him an option for their linebacking corps. But when news of Harris’ release hit the wires, the Rams worked quickly to get in touch with his agent and begin contract talks. St. Louis likes what both players can add to their team, but Harris is coming from a defense that ranked first against the run last season, and the Rams would like to capture some of that magic and bring it here, to one of the league’s worst run defenses. While the Rams fully acknowledge that Harris isn’t going to turn their defense around single handedly, they view him as at worst a very strong depth player and a potential starter either outside or inside. Perhaps most importantly, sources inside the organization say the coaching staff loves the size that Harris brings to the position. At 255 pounds, Harris would immediately be the largest linebacker on the Rams’ roster, and because of that size, could potentially be used at middle linebacker with Will Witherspoon shifting outside.

Finally, while the Rams continue to negotiate contract details with Chicago wide receiver Justin Gage, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch has learned that the Rams have broadened their search for a third receiver now that Kevin Curtis has officially signed with Detroit. Reportedly, the Rams are very interested in former Falcons and Broncos wide receiver Ashley Lelie. According to reports, Lelie has two things the Rams want in their slot receiver – great height and impressive speed. Lelie stands at six-feet three-inches tall, which would make him the tallest receiver on the Rams roster. But he also is able to stretch the field, a component that Curtis brought as a slot receiver while with the Rams. While the Rams are familiar with Lelie’s trouble with consistency in the past, they feel that his play will improve behind the veteran leadership of Pro Bowlers Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce.

All indications are that the Rams have sent contract offers to Allen, Harris, and Lelie, and while St. Louis plans to pursue all three heavily as free agency continues, defensive end Chris Kelsay remains their primary target at this time.

Rob Ryan Interview Transcript

Reporter: What is the top free agent priority as of right now?

RR: Well, right now we're looking at a few players out there. We are finalizing a couple meetings with some guys and we'll see how it goes. There is no urgency at this point.

Reporter: Tommy Kelly was recently offered the mid-tender a few days ago, therefore requiring a 2nd round pick for his services for another team. What went into that decision?

RR: We feel he is a big asset to our line and he is only going into his 4th year in the Pros.

Reporter: Any updates regarding the Draft?

RR: Not at this time. We are still looking over some notes but right now Free Agency is our priority and looking at our needs at Defense.

Carlisle acquired, Orr, Salaam among those re-signed
Team misses out on Clements, looks elsewhere

By JONATHAN FEIGEN
Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle

HOUSTON, Texas - The Houston Texans offensive line was upgraded yeterday with the addition of Free Agent Guard Cooper Carlisle. Carlisle -- a former Denver Bronco -- started all 16 games each of the last two seasons for the Broncos and is familiar with Houston Head Coach and former Denver Offensive Coordinator Gary Kubiak. Carlisle will likely start at the left guard position, a spot that Chester Pitts occupied last season.

Shantee Orr and Ephraim Salaam were just two of the eight UFA Houston Texans who re-signed with the team yesterday. Orr will likely head into training camp the starting Strong Side Linebacker, while Ephraim Salaam will fill the Left Tackle spot he solidified last season.

Among the others re-signed was Defensive End Antwan Peek, who will add quality depth to a defensive line struggling to find pass rush.

Also acquired yesterday, linebackers Danny Clark and D.D. Lewis will add quality depth to a linebacker corps that went into the off-season extremely thin.

After losing out in the battle for Cornerback Nate Clements, who signed a mega deal with the Buffalo Bills, Houston will surely be active in the remaining Cornerback market.

There are four popular names circulating around Houston as to who they are rumored to sign. The first being former Patriot Randall ***, who played in only 3 games last season. Another being former St. Louis Ram Travis Fisher, who played in 9. The other two were on the club last season, but have not been offered a contract. Those two are Dexter McCleon and Roc Alexander.

Another position of need that Houston surely is not through addressing is Wide Receiver. Kevin Walter was re-signed yesterday, but he had a very disappointing season last year stepping into the number three receiver role, which will likely cause Houston to go into this season with a backup plan. They could also move Walter to number four, and bring in a new guy at the number three spot.

Players mentioned that Houston may be interested in are Kelley Washington and Shaun McDonald.

Ryan Lilja is also rumored to have recently been brought in to talk to. Lilja, if signed, would play Right Guard where 30 year old Steve McKinney is currently playing out of position.

The biggest rumors out of Houston however, are that former starting safety of the division rival Jacksonville Jaguars Deon Grant has in fact, been offered a contract already. Grant, who started all 16 games last season for the Jaguars, compiled 60 Tackles and 2 Interceptions. He would no doubt be an upgrade over recently re-signed ERFA C.C. Brown.

Jaguars land Stallworth
jaguars.com
By Vic Ketchman, senior editor

The Jaguars signed their premier free agent target in Donte' Stallworth late last night. Terms to the deal have not yet been disclosed. Stallworth, 26, spent four seasons with the New Orleans Saints before spending last season with the Philadelphia Eagles. After the end of the season, Stallworth opted to declare for free agency.

Stallworth figures to be an immediate improvement in the passing game. After Jimmy Smith's retirement in the offseason, the Jaguars wide receivers did not respond to fill the void. No Jaguars wide receiver was in the top 50 in receiving yards in the NFL, the highest being Matt Jones at #60.

No member of the Jaguars organization was available for comment.

http://www.tensportsgrill.com/images/athletes/Darren_Woodson.jpg

"Darren Woodson reporting.

I had earlier reported that the Dallas Cowboys signed Marc Columbo and Derrick Dockery this morning. Now it seems as though two more offensive players will be comeing to Big D. Those two players are Center Andre Guorde who had a pro bowl season for the Cowboys this past year. The other is Damon Huard a lifetime backup Quarterback who spent some time starting for the Chiefs when Trent Green was injured this past year."
"We feel Damon is a great guy to have come in here and help teach Tony the ropes, and a plus is that he can be our holder so that we do not have to have our starter hold anymore. Andre was our other top priority in the offseason and we are very happy to have him back," said Jerry Jones.
"Don't expect the Cowboys to be quiet throught the rest of Free Agency they are already checking with other players about intrest in coming to Dallas. Yes, they have only signed offensive players but, they have also been talking with defensive players as recently as yesterday afternoon. On an interesting note all of the Cowboys staff were in a state of havoc when the announcement first came about free agent signings late last night, and Andre Gurode was listed as being signed by none other then Gurode, but after a few careful refreshings of the page he was infact listed as signed by the Cowboys.

More to come on this breaking story."

Without futher ado here are the newest Cowboys to join the team this offseason.

Bills, Price, Haggan Entertain Griffith
Peerless Price and Mario Haggan take Griffith out to dinner after his visit to Buffalo

Lead Journalist

http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/6985/justingriffithlargeimagri9.jpg
Atlanta FB Justin Griffith is Buffalo's newest target

After the recent signing of CB Nate Clements, the Bills have shifted their attention to other free agents reportedly offering contracts to as many as 10 UFA's. One of the most notable free agents which the Bills have shown interest in is Atlanta FB Justin Griffith.

Griffith visited Buffalo on February 13th and seemed to enjoy his visit. He spent most of his visit in the weight room at 1 Bills Drive. He met with Head Coach Dick Jauron, General Manager Marv Levy and Running Backs Coach Eric Studesville during his visit and was seen laughing and smiling alot during his visit. Jauron, Levy, Studesville and Griffith had an intense, 40 minute conversation in Marv Levy's office at the end of the visit and reportedly an offer was made before Griffith left.

Soon after leaving the Bills facilities, WR Peerless Price and LB Mario Haggan treated Griffith to a dinner at Anchor Bar, home of the original Buffalo Chicken Wing, as Griffith wanted to experience some authentic Buffalo food. Price played with Griffith from 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 in Atlanta and called him "a very good friend and person." Haggan is even more familiar with Griffith. The two were teammates for 4 years at Mississippi State, entering in the same recruiting class and graduating together in 2003. Haggan elaborated a little more on Griffith, "Justin and I have been friends since freshman year of college. We have kept in contact since we were both drafted by different teams in the 2003 NFL Draft. He told me he didn't know if the Falcons wanted him back because he didn't know how he fit Petrino's offense. Me and Peerless definitely emphasized how much we want him here and he said he got the same impression from the Bills coaching staff. He also said he liked the offer that he was given. That's all I can say right now, man."

Titans restart Free Agency talks with three players
NFL.com wire reports

http://images.nfl.com/photos/news/img6881083.jpg
The Titans have started talk with three FA's, Anthony Wright, Patrick Kenrey, and Deon grant. Anthony Wright has been contacted by the Titans GM's about being Vince young's back up for the 2007 season. The former starter for the Ravens during the 2003 and 2005 NFL season. This season he played back up to Carson palmer of the Bengals. Wright has a career QB rating of 66.9, have thrown 20 TD's, but 25 INT's. His Comp% for his career is 55.4. The titans have talked with him and his agent, and he was very interested in being the #2 QB this season for the Titans.

http://i.a.cnn.net/si/images/football/nfl/players/5086.jpg
Deon grant has been seen around Nashville talking to the Titans. The Titans have stated they would love to add the former UT Vol player to their roster. If he does sign with the team the deal would be for three to four years his agent told us. Grant would take over as the starter at FS, after the release of Lamont Thompson and the failure to land Ken Hamlin who signed with the Panthers. Grant has played his last three seasons with division rival Jacksonville Jaguars. Last season he made 53 tackles, 2 INT's and 5 pass def.

http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/patrick-kerney-1.jpg
Patrick Kerney has also been in town, talking about a possible signing with the Titans. Kenrey a former 1st round out of Virginia tech have been talking to serval teams after the falcons failed to contract extension done this off-season. Kerney had been putting up good number before his injury this season, During the 2004 and 2005 Season with the Falcons him 19.5 sacks, 1 INT, and 92 tackles. If the Titans could land Kerney, this would fill a major needs to one of the worst pass rushing team in the NFL and a run stopper to the line up.

Whirlwind Day Comes To A Close

Mitchell retained; Team loses out on Bennett

The first big day of free agency came and went yesterday with the Chiefs making some noise. First and foremost was the news that highly coveted middle linebacker Kawika Mitchell was retained by the team. Chiefs co-GMs eazyb81, villagewarrior, and mizzou publicly stated that they were interested in resigning the young star, but they weren’t willing to break the bank for him. Conversely, Mitchell said all along he would test the free agent waters.

“Our defense took a big step forward this season, and I feel we are only one or two pieces away from becoming an elite unit,” said Mitchell. “I visited with many teams during this offseason, but I realized that Kansas City was my home and I wanted to help build something special”.

In other news, the team reached agreements with linebacker Carlos Polk and defensive tackle Rien Long. Polk has spent the last few years in San Diego’s 3-4 defensive scheme, but defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham was successful in selling the Cover 2 to Polk. “Coach Cunningham helped me realize that the intricacies of the Cover 2 was a perfect fit for my strengths, and I am looking forward to making the transition,” said Polk. Long comes over from the Tennessee Titans, but missed the entire 2006 season due to an Achilles injury. The team feels Long has the potential to be the pass-rushing presence at defensive tackle they desperately need.

Not all news was good at One Arrowhead Drive: elite free agent wide receiver Drew Bennett spurned the Chiefs by signing an offer sheet with the Minnesota Vikings. “We are obviously disappointed to lose out on a player with Bennett’s abilities,” said eazyb81, “but we can respect his decision to sign with the Vikings. That being said, we aren’t going to give up our pursuit of a #1 wide receiver.” Eazyb81 would not comment on which wide receivers they were targeting, but inside sources state that the team will bring Kelley Washington and Ashley Lelie into town within the next few days. Both players were had high expectations coming out of college, but so far each has performed below expectations. However, a change of scenery could be just what the doctor ordered to revive each player’s career.

Finally, the team will bring defensive tackles Tim Anderson and Kenderick Allen, along with cornerback Andre Woolfolk, in for a workout on Wednesday. Anderson and Allen would provide much needed depth to Kansas City’s weak defensive tackle position, while Woolfolk would initially slot in as the nickelback and could possibly be groomed for a future role as a starter.

Giants FA Update

With still a heavy dose of money to spend, the Giants are looking to add one or two more pieces to the puzzle via free agency before focusing their attention towards the draft. As always, the Giants have been tight lipped about who their targets consist of, one must think they are still trying to add a playmaker to the defensive side of the ball at CB or FS. Also, there are plenty of options on the offensive side of the ball that could be sought after by the Jerry Reese. We are purely speculating that the likes of Dominic Rhodes, Kelley Washington, LaBrandon Toefield, and Ahman Green could have been contacted by the Giants to add some much needed depth and speed to the core.

Patriots lose Samuel, land more free agents
Team loses top corner, will attempt to fill void

AP - Following the slam-dunk signing of outside linebacker Adalius Thomas away from the Baltimore Ravens, an AFC foe, the New England Patriots found out last night that Asante Samuel had agreed to a monster deal with the division rival New York Jets. Samuel marks the second Patriot signed away by Eric Mangini and co., joining situational rush linebacker Tully Banta-Cain, who was benched for the majority of the playoffs due to his deficiencies in coverage.

But that's where the bad news ends. New England also finalized a handful of deals today, bringing back inside linebackers Junior Seau and Eric Alexander and cornerback Randall G ay, and signing former Washington Redskins cornerback Kenny Wright to a deal to help shore up a defense that is dangerously thin at the position. It's hard to imagine Randall *** or Kenny Wright trying to cover a Marvin Harrison or Reggie Wayne, so don't be surprised if the team continues to add at the position before the end of the offseason.

CHIEFS RETAIN MITCHELL, SIGN POLK AND LONG, CONTINUE SHOPPING SPREE

http://www.vueart.com/images/scrooge_mcduck.jpg
by Scrooge McDuck

The Chiefs were able to come to terms with free agent linebacker Kawika Mitchell yesterday, a move that brought a sigh of relief from the collective Chiefs brass.

http://www.sonofthesouth.net/union-generals/sioux-indians/pictures/sioux-warrior.jpg

co-GM villagewarrior: We are very excited to have Kawika back. We feel a second year in Coach Herm Edwards' defensive scheme will make Kawika an even more effective player for us. Now we just need to get some mammoth tackles in front of him.

The Chiefs made their first move towards providing those mammoth tackles when they signed ex-Tennessee defensive tackle Rien Long. This 6'6 300 pounder who will turn 26 in August is exactly what the Chiefs were lacking in their interior line the last few years. Before missing the last season with an achille's tendon injury, he led the Titans in quarterback pressures over a two year period with 33. His size and flair for penetrating the pocket makes him a perfect candidate to play the 3 tech.

http://www.dawnandlarry.com/images/ka2.jpghttp://assets.buffalobills.com/uploads/players/F75438904D834AD1897AB090A5EE760B.jpg

The Chiefs today brought in two more free agent defensive tackles, Kenderick Allen of Green Bay and Tim Anderson of Buffalo. Each man is a large, stout individual who is capable of taking on guard-center combos and keeping linemen out of Kawika's lap, which is one area Chiefs brass want to improve on.

http://images.tsn.ca/images/stories/20060917/bengals_57724.jpghttp://cache.boston.com/bonzai-fba/Globe_Photo/2006/01/14/1137294806_5275.jpg

The Chiefs also brought in two players today that will immediately add size to their receiving corps in free agents Kelley Washington and Ashley Lelie. Both players stand in at 6'3" and would help the Chiefs spread defenses out, preventing them from stacking the line against Larry Johnson.

Former Tennessee cornerback Andre Woolfolk arrived a few minutes after the receivers and immediately went to lunch with head coach Herm Edwards, a former defensive back himself. With veteran incumbents Ty Law and Patrick Surtain already on the roster, Woolfolk would not have a realistic shot at a starting job this year, however both Law and Surtain are nearing the ends of their careers. In the interim, Woolfolk would make an impressive upgrade at the 3rd corner spot, taking over for Lenny Walls and Benny Sapp.

Davis Contemplates Return
WR Andre Davis looks toward the offseason

Chris Brown
Lead Journalist

http://img370.imageshack.us/img370/2382/andredavisnewsob4.jpg

Where do I go from here? This question has plagued Andre Davis' mind since Buffalo's Week 17 loss to Baltimore. A return to Buffalo is definitely possible with the Bills getting a deal done with Nate Clements early in the free agency process. The Bills have now shifted their attention to more of their own UFA’s, including WR Andre Davis. Davis, who was signed last year to a 1 year deal, produced in his limited opportunities last season. Although he was buried on the WR depth chart behind Lee Evans, Peerless Price, Josh Reed and Roscoe Parrish, Davis made the most of his opportunities. In the preseason, he flashed the deep speed and big play ability which is coveted by offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild

http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/7018/andredavisnews2xp7.jpg
Special Teams Coach Bobby April is "digging" Davis' special teams play

Davis' biggest contribution to the Bills last year was his special teams play. He was a fantastic gunner for the Bills' special teams unit, finishing second overall in special team tackles, only behind safety Coy Wire. Davis' special teams play alone may get him an offer from the Bills, as they hope to keep in tact a unit which was one of the best in 2006-2007. Davis has also mentioned that he is pretty comfortable in Buffalo and doesn't want to move around alot anymore. "This is my fifth year so time is steadily ticking by," Davis said. "It's getting to a point where you don't want to be moving around much anymore. I've been through that twice already. It's never a fun time to have to pick your family up and have to move somewhere else. So if the best situation is to stay here for me then so be it. It's not even about the money."

Jaguars cash in for Stallworth
Receiver gets $35 million from team, looks forward to future
Vito Stellino, The Florida Times-Onion

New Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Donte' Stallworth has received a contract worth up to $35 million over five years, according to a team press release. Nine million will be accrued as signing bonus, 6 million of which will be offered as a roster bonus after the first year.

Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio talked of his new offensive weapon on Wednesday in a story on the team's official website.

"We feel like Donte' will be a great player here. He gives our offense an added component of speed, talent, and explosive ability. I'm thrilled to have him as apart of our football team."

Del Rio also offered a challenge to his current wide receivers.

"While, I still believe in the group that we have, they need to improve. We see great things ahead for the guys that we have had. But adding Donte' was a move that we felt was necessary for our offense to further itself into becoming what it needs to be."

In a separate phone interview on Wednesday, Stallworth said that he was "excited" about being a Jaguar.

"I'm just glad to have the opportunity. I feel great about what I can do in Jacksonville and can't wait to get to know the team and work on the season ahead."

Donte' did not take sides on the quarterback controversy, saying that "both guys are talented and I think I can do well with either." Donte' also offered praise to the Jaguars current receiving corps.

"I 've heard good things about them, and they are all talented and young. I believe all of us as a unit can do great things for the team."

Pitt Alum's to join forces?

Rumblings out of Detroit have said that franchise mainstay Corey Schlesinger is all but done in Detroit. Although he has been a steady member of the Lions for many years, upper management thinks it is time for them to part ways. Enter Lousaka Polite. Assistant GM Michael Franklin has looked to sign the former Pitt FB. He has fond memories of him as he ran in the game winning TD against Virginia Tech "in the greatest game I have ever attended".

"We believe that Lou has a lot of skill and can help our team out a lot" said Franklin. "He is a big body and he has a lot of skills and potential. He may not have everything put together yet but he is a young player and has shown flashes. He can come in and help us out greatly."

Lou was seen meeting at the Lions practice facility in Dearborn, Michigan.

"I really like the facilities this team has" said Polite... politely. "They seem to have the intentions to make thier franchise live up to thier facilities. Oh and P-I-T-T LET'S GO PITT!"

Gandy, Thomas Still Undecided
OG Mike Gandy and RB Anthony "A-Train" Thomas up-in-the-air on a return to Buffalo

Chris Brown
Lead Journalist

http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/725/mikegandynewsvl4.jpg
Mike Gandy, pictured above, should recieve an offer from the Bills.

As Free Agency lingers on, Bills OG Mike Gandy and RB Anthony Thomas anxiously await their future in the NFL. It is safe to assume that both will recieve offers from the Bills, but will they be lucrative enough for them to stay? GM Marv Levy elaborated on the issue. "Mike and Anthony who have had their share of ups and downs with our organization. We have made both players offers, but don't expect these offers to break the bank by any means. We are content with these players, but realize that they could definitely be upgraded."

Gandy had the definition of a hot and cold season. He suffered from a horrendous start at LT where he gave up 12.5 sacks, including 3 ½ sacks in one game alone to DE James Hall, who only totaled 5 sacks the entire year. However, after shifting to LG after the BYE week, he encountered much better success and was effective enough to be called a starter there. When asked to comment on his future, Gandy gave it to me straight, "I like Coach Jauron and have all of the respect in the world for him. We worked well in Chicago and now in Buffalo. I would love to be back, but I'm not sure that the Bills really want me back as much as I want to stay."

http://img466.imageshack.us/img466/9239/anthonythomasnewsgs9.jpg
"A-Train's" reaction on the Bills latest contract offer...is this shock good or bad?

Anthony "A-Train" Thomas has also had a history with Coach Jauron in Chicago. Jauron was the head coach when Thomas won Offensive Rookie Of The Year in 2001. Similiar to Gandy and Jauron, Thomas and Jauron also have a good relationship together. In Willis McGahee’s absence, Thomas filled in nicely in his 2 starts against the Colts and Texans, amassing 165 yards in those 2 starts. He does not have the breakaway speed that the Bills would like in a feature back, but he is a hardnosed runner who will put his head down and pick up the tough yards to move the chains. In this respect, Thomas is viewed as a good 2nd back that can start in spot duty, no more.

It certainly should be interesting if Gandy or Thomas returns to Buffalo for the 2007-2008 season.

News has been quite in Arizona thus far, but ESPN have a few updates for fans.

Word in Arizona is, despite the Cardinals lack of signings so far, the coaching and management squad are happy with the results this current offseason.

New head coach Ken Whisenhurt took a timeout from his busy schedule to talk to ESPN journalists. "Myself, and the new coaching staff are taking our time to access our current squad. We aren't going to rush things, or overpay washed up stars. At Pittsburgh we got players who are hard working and commited to the organisation, I will be using that philosophy as the head coach here too.

The Cardinals organisation would like to wish the best for former 2nd overall pick Leonard Davis, who has joined the 49ers. A former coach said "Davis has played well for this club for 6 years, but both sides mutually felt it was time for him to move on. With that said, I think he would have shown more loyalty in not joining a division rival."

Rumour has it, that certain fan groups are disgruntled with the lack of progress in free agency thus far, and were destraught when Samuels and Thomas signed with other clubs.

Assistant General Manager AdrianWilson12 responded by saying "These fans need to understand that high profile signings don't guarentee results, and that we have a clear plan this offseason. We are however quitely confident that our main target Lance Briggs will sign with us."
Briggs, a graduate from the University of Arizona, enjoyed his college years in the midwest and would become a instant leader for the up and coming Cardinals.

GARRARD ON THE TRADING BLOCK?

One of our sources with the Jacksonville Jaguars informs us that QB David Garrard is on the trading block. The veteran back-up/starter played decent for the 8-8 Jags, but had some prominently bad games that have placed his future with the team in doubt.

There's no word as to what the Jagaurs are asking for him, but it likely won't be too high, probably a round or two lower than what they might get if Leftwich were on the block instead.

The news may come as a surprise to some who expected Leftwich to be placed up for grabs instead of Garrard, but the sources have informed us that trading Leftwich was never in the plans of the Jacksonville FO.

Veteran MLB contacted by Lions

http://bolttalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/04/donnieedwards.jpeg

Recently, Donnie Edwards was seen meeting with Detroit Assistant GM Michael Franklin. Donnie Edwards is a UFA MLB coming off a 141 tackle season playing for the San Diego Chargers.

"One of our biggest holes has been MLB due to injuries or inexperience" said Franklin. "I gave Donnie a call because he is a proven veteran that can come in and produce. While he plays in a 3-4, we believe he will fit well because he is a MLB on the smaller side but still has the skill set necessary."

Right now, Detroit does not know if there are any other suitors out there for Edwards but hopes they are the front runner.

"It'd be great if we could get him" said Franklin. "We really need a steadying entity in our LB corps and Donnie would be that person. He has been producing year in and year out. He'd give us a chance to draft his understudy and bring them along without throwing them into the fire immediately."

"Honestly, I think this place has gotten a bad rap" Edwards told us. "All of it isn't public just yet but I have seen this team. They are definetely trying to make changes. They have been talking to multiple players that would definetely upgrade this defense. It'd be real fun to play here."

More players coming to the D's D?

http://www.azcardinals.com/nm_files/Image/players/bertrandfr@oak.jpg

Rumors out of Detroit are that they are speaking with the Arizona Cardinals for a trade involving one of thier defensive ends.

"Right now, yes, we are looking at either Chike or Bertrand" confessed Franklin. "It is no secret, with our defensive scheme, we need our DE's to put pressure on the QB. It is all built off of the defensive line. We thought we had help with Simeon Rice but then the Bucs decided to wimp out and back out of the trade. But I can tell you this.... we will get a DE be it through FA, draft or trade. We need help on the D-Line."

Saints eyeing Edwards
Former Charger closer to becoming a Saint

http://images.nfl.com/images/players/60x80/3404.jpg

By Len Pasquarelli
ESPN.com

Metairie, LA -- Discussions between former San Diego inside linebacker Donnie Edwards and New Orleans Saints officials have been heating up for the past few days. All indications point to the eleven year veteran signing with the Saints organization as soon as Monday.

Last year the Saints and Chargers came close to striking a deal that would have sent Edwards to New Orleans for an undisclosed draft pick, however, negotiations cooled between the two franchised when Chargers GM A.J. Smith intervened and began demanding more compensation for Edwards. This year, the now free agent Edwards, is free to sign with any organization and the Saints look to be the front runners.

Saints General Manager, diabsoule, told ESPN.com that he believes Edwards will be a Saint. "Negotiations are progressing very well with Edwards and his agent. We believe that he wants to be a Saint and we want him to be a Saint." Saints quarterback Drew Brees shares the same agent as Edwards so it is safe to assume that he is making a pitch for him to play in New Orleans.

The signing of Edwards would greatly enhance a Saints linebacking corps that overperformed last year. The Saints have solid, yet unspectacular, linebackers in Scott Fujita and Scott Shanle. Last years starting inside linebacker Mark Simeoneau performed his role well but an upgrade came be made and Edwards would be that upgrade.

Saints officials discussed that signing Edwards is one of their last priorities in free agency. "We are wanting to bring Donnie [Edwards] here and sign him soon so that we can start concentrating on the draft", new Saints Director of Player Personnel, Saints Dome Patrol, told ESPN.com. He continued by stating, "we have signed most of our targets when free agency starting with Donnie being the last one we have yet to sign. We filled some big holes we felt we had and our looking forward to seeing what we can do in April."

Some of the holes the Saints filled in free agency was their secondary. The biggest area of need for the Saints going into free agency was cornerback, especially after the release of starter Fred Thomas and nickel corner Jason Craft. The Saints replaced both of them by luring Roderick Hood from the Philadelphia Eagles and restricted free agent Jason David from the Indianapolis Colts. Hood and David will compete for the starting cornerback spot oppositie Mike McKenzie in training camp with the early favorite being Jason David.

While they signed Hood and David, talks around Saints camp indicate that they are also looking into signing another cornerback before the free agent signing period ends. If they are unable to sign a free agent, then all indications point to the Saints drafting not one but two cornerbacks.

Saints give Colston contract extension

Associated Press

NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans Saints have given rookie wide receiver Marques Colston a contract extension. The extension is reportedly for three years which would keep Colston in New Orleans until 2011.

Colston, a seventh round draft pick out of Hofstra University, became the Saints starting wide receiver opposite veteran Joe Horn after trading injury prone wide receiver Donte Stallworth to the Philadelphia Eagles for a fourth round pick before the start of last season.

Colston's performance last season, limited through three games due to a sprained ankle, netted him over 1,000 yards receiving and eight touchdowns and earned him Rookie of the Year consideration. The former tight end from Hofstra had initially signed a three year contract. The contract extension is just one of many moves the New Orleans Saints have made this offseason. The extension also seems to further indicate the eventual departure of Joe Horn, who is being shopped around by the Saints.

Rumors around the league indicate that the Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons have expressed interest in obtaining Horn. Although New Orleans may be leary of trading a former Pro Bowl receiver to a NFC South rival, a trade to the Tennessee Titans would give blossoming quarterback Vince Young a reliable target.

Browns love Wisconsin's Thomas

http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/28/281718.jpg
With the way the Cleveland Browns have been working on their offensive line the past couple seasons, they may just by one more building block to get them to have one of the great offensive lines in the NFL and that piece of the puzzle being a franchise left tackle. The best offensive linemen in this draft class is the University of Wisconsin's Joe Thomas.

This year's recipent of the Outland throphy is being targetted by many times and could go as high as 3. If Thomas is available in the third slot, the chances the Browns take him are high.

Williams coming back to Miami?

http://images.sportsnetwork.com/football/nfl/allsport/dolphins/williams_ricky13.jpg

Ricky Williams has officially applied for reinstatement into the NFL. Williams failed a drug test last offseason and was suspended for one season by the NFL. Williams did not test positive for marijuana however. Even thought Williams isn't the player he once was the Dolphins believe he can still play at a high level. Ronnie Brown is the obvious starter but the NFL is a two back league and while Morris performed well last season he isn't the ideal back up. When Williams came back to the NFL after his retirement he finished the season with back to back 100 yard games. Having Williams back allows Miami to use Brown in different ways like putting him at FB or in the slot. The Dolphins would love to bring Williams back to bring the versatility to the offense, as well as the ability to spell Brown with a more than capable back. He first needs to be reinstated however.

ESPN's John Clayton reporting

http://espn.go.com/i/columnists/clayton_john_m.jpg

Recent events have shown that more teams have entered the running for MLB Donnie Edwards.

http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20041011/images/s_donnie.jpg

The Detroit Lions have now been joined by the New Orleans Saints in the sweepstakes for MLB Donnie Edwards. As some Saints official may lead on, it is not a sealed deal.

"Oh no, I am still weighing my options between the two teams" said Edwards. "It is fair from a certainty for either team."

Edwards is an 11 year veteran and he may really like the idea of coming into a Detroit team that is looking for help. He would play a much more important role in Detroit then in New Orleans.

And then there is the possibility to be a mentor to the MLB the Lions have indicitated they will be drafting.

"I'll be honest, yes, it would be great to be someone's mentor. To see all the young kids come into the league and become great players and dominating players, that'd be great to have a part in it. And the Lions seem to be poised to do just that."

That aspect is certianly is most true. The Lions are needing a lot of help in the LB area. And they are very determined to address this need. They are building thier entire defense from the front 7 back and will be putting a lot of emphasis on that. Assistant GM Franklin had this to say.

"I'd love if Donnie would come to the Motor City. He would be a great addition. I am looking to add CB, S and DE to our defense. Donnie will help change our entire defensive face with new youngsters coming into town. I'm really hoping he joins us."

And as I said before.... there is a good chance he just might.

Lions | Lousaka Polite wants to be a Lion
Thu, 15 Feb 2007 08:05:02 -0800

The Lions have continued talking to Lousaka Polite in regards to thier soon to be vacant FB spot. The Lions believe Lou will be a great addition to thier offense.

"It is sad to see Corey go but it needs to be done" said Franklin. "He has the abilities fill the holes we have. He can carry the ball, he can block and he can catch the ball out of the backfield. He is a very versatile back. I've been watching him for years, dating back to college."

Polite was not noticed much in Dallas but he will be able to take a bigger role in Detroit.

Polite will also be closer to home in Detroit. He was born, raised and went to school in Pittsburgh.

"Yeah, it'd be great to come home... well, close to home. That is definetely a perk since I'd be 4-5 hours from home" said Polite. "I hope we can get a deal done."

Giants FA Update

The Giants have added yet another crucial piece to the championship puzzle with the addition of the REAL MVP of Super Bowl XLI, RB Dominic Rhodes. The explosive, often overlooked back that does oh so many things to help a team win was brought in and signed all within three hours.

"It really wasn't a difficult decision for me to make after hearing the pitch from Mr. Reese and Mr. Coughlin" said Rhodes from the Giants practice bubble. "I looked at my agent after we saw that we would get the money we were demanding and told him right away to cancel our other flights, because I ain't goin anywhere."

Rhodes was not brought in to be the feature back like some teams around the league were pondering, he will be used in a dual back system that is becoming more and more popular in the NFL these days with the mammoth himself, Brandon Jacobs.

"The loss of the greatest RB in franchise history will change the outlook of this team, obviously" said head coach Tom Coughlin. "But Brandon has proven to be more than just a power back and Dominic has proved he is more than just a 3rd down back. Putting them together will give defenses headaches because they can both beat you in so many ways."

Rhodes had this to add before his first interview as a Giant was over-

"From what I hear, there have been some attitudes on this team that aren't even close to being team oriented. Yes, I come here as a football player that will make plays, but I am also coming here to show guys what it takes to be on top year after year. There is way too much talent on this team to not be amongst the best in the league, but what most people don't know is that it takes more than the physical play on the field. If we can shape up some attitudes on this team, there will be another Manning winning the Super Bowl within my tenure as a Giant, I guarantee it."

Rhodes was signed to a 3 year, $10.5 million contract.

Polite not so Polite?

(AP)-Lousaka Polite is not very happy. Why you make ask? Mr. Polite had this to say, "I like Detriot yes, but I still love Dallas and would be happy to stay there, them releasing stories implying that I would sign in Detriot due to it being closer to home by a whole 3-5 hours is crazy. I have a lot of friends on this team here in Dallas and they have helped me out before when I have needed to get back home for any reason. This place here in Dallas feels exactly like a family I would love to come back to this family and prove that I can be a great player and can be the H-Back that this offense needs."

What happens may be what Lousaka says, he may stay in Dallas but there is no report that Jerry Jones has offered Lousaka a contract. Still that doesn't mean anything as a note no one knew that they had offered veteran QB Damon Huard a Contract either. Look for the competition for Mr. Polite to heat up.

Broncos add DE, WR

Associated Press

DOVE VALLEY -- The Denver Broncos have signed two players to free agent offers, Charles Rogers, formerly of the Detroit Lions and Patrick Kerney from Atlanta.

http://images.nfl.com/photos/img6336427.jpg - http://www.nflplayers.com/images/players/27039.jpg

"We like the pure ability that Rogers brings to Denver, and believe that, after exntensive psychiatric evaluation, his head is finally screwed on straight." Mike Shanahan spoke to the press briefly on his way out of a meeting with Ted Sundquist and Pat Bowlen. "He'll compete for a roster spot and give us a little more depth going into the draft."

"Patrick Kerney will give us a stud presence at DE. We were lucky to sign his former coach, Bill Johnson, as that proved to be a major bargaining chip for us."

Charles Rogers was a bit of a surprise signing, as most had expected Denver to wait until the draft to address the position. Kerney, on the other hand, was rumored to be headed to Denver ever since the Broncos lured Johnson away from Atlanta. While the Broncos hadn't commented on it, all signs had pointed in that direction.

Kerney will be able to join the rotation immediately, with Ebenezer Ekuban and Kenard Lang, with Elvis Dumervil stepping in as a pass rush specialist. With Denver now looking set at DE and having excellent WR depth, it's again anyone's guess where they will look come draft day. Mike Shanahan had no comment when asked who the team was looking at.

Denver also announced the release of John Engelberger, Courtney Brown and Mike Myers. Engelberger and Brown were apparently released for cap reasons. More as it becomes available.

http://images.nfl.com/images/nflnetwork/eisen_rich.jpgRich Eisen: Hello and welcome back to NFL Total Access on NFL Network! I’m your host Rich Eisen and we will be talking a little about the NFC Champions, the Chicago Bears, with Adam Schefter. Now, I hear you have some breaking news about Bears All-Pro LB Lance Briggs, right?

http://images.nfl.com/images/author/8830.jpgAdam Schefter: Hey Rich. And yes, I do have some breaking news. Recently franchised Lance Briggs is now threatening to hold out and is requesting a trade. The Bears have allowed him to go and seek a trade

http://images.nfl.com/images/nflnetwork/eisen_rich.jpgRich Eisen: Wow. Any idea what type compensation the Bears could get back in a trade?

http://images.nfl.com/images/author/8830.jpgAdam Schefter: Well, I personally feel some team would be willing to offer a late first rounder. Maybe the Patriots, Saints, or Colts? The Colts would be a good fit as Tony Dungy does know a lot about Lovie Smith’s players as they are best friends, and with the recent lose of Cato June the Colts need a WLB to replace him in the same cover 2 D.

http://images.nfl.com/images/nflnetwork/eisen_rich.jpgRich Eisen: Now, what if there can’t be a trade agreed upon?

http://images.nfl.com/images/author/8830.jpgAdam Schefter: Well, then Briggs will most likely holdout and then right before the season starts, decide not to holdout. That would mean that Briggs would be unprepared however and have missed all of the off-season programs.

http://images.nfl.com/images/nflnetwork/eisen_rich.jpgRich Eisen: Is there any chance the Bears could still resign him?

http://images.nfl.com/images/author/8830.jpgAdam Schefter: Yes, the Bears could still possibly resign him. They do have plenty of cap room left after the Steinbach signing.

http://images.nfl.com/images/nflnetwork/eisen_rich.jpgRich Eisen: Okay, thank you Adam.

http://images.nfl.com/images/author/8830.jpgAdam Schefter: Thank you.

http://images.nfl.com/images/nflnetwork/eisen_rich.jpgRich Eisen: Okay, stay tuned because after the break we will show you what is like to spend a day with all-pro Center, Olin Kreutz.

Louuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

http://scoreboards.aol.com/images/football/nfl/players/100x150/3207.jpg + http://www.flags.com/images/products/lg-detroit-lions.jpg = YES!!!!

It seems that the Cowboys may have possible thrown thier 10 gallon hats back into the ring in the quest for Lousaka Polite. Lousaka was quoted as saying he loves Dallas but it may not seem that way.

"I don't know what came over me but to love Dallas? Come on. I mean... don't get me wrong, I love my boys down in the D but I think I need to switch the city. You like that? A little rhyming going on. Do me a favor and look at my stats.

2004 - 1 game played 1 reception for 4 yards
2005 - 14 games, 3 of them starts, 2 rushes for 8 yards, 9 receptions for 72 yards and a TD
2006 - 12 games, 7 rushes for 18 yards, 2 receptions for 21 yards

So you are telling me that the team loves me? Hell no! They already got a rookie coming in and stepping ahead of me in the depth chart. They will not properly utilize my skills. Whereas Detroit will. They will give me a chance to be a threat out of the backfield, being carrying the ball or recieving it. I mean look at my boy Cory (Schlesinger) up there. Yeah, he has fallen off in recent years but he has had highs of 60 receptions!!!! He had almost 500 yards recieving. He also had a high of 49 rushing attempts. Man.... I'd love to be in that organization. An organization who will actually use me. Because, well, I got the skills to kill. Shout out to my boy MF Doom.... Michael Franklin of the Lions front office, let's go Pitt, holla!"

There you have it from Lou himself. He knows he is not appreciated in Dallas. He hasn't been used much in the past 3 years and already had a rookie be seated ahead of him on the depth chart.

"Yo, give me a chance to work with that offensive mastermind Mike Martz. You'll see what I can do. Be it at RB or FB. I've done them both. Just ask Mike (Franklin)."

The numbers don't lie..... Dallas doesn't use Lou and who says they will start now?[/b]

Donnie Dons A D?

http://bolttalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/03/t-edwards_800x6001.jpg

Some last minute information out of Detroit concerning Donnie Edwards. The Lions have upped thier contract offer to make it very lucrative. They really want Donnie to join thier team and lead the young LBs they have.

"Detroit is really pushing hard for me. I can see they want me. As I said before, I'd be excited to play here. You got youngsters that have a lot of skill in Ernie Sims, Teddy Lehman and Boss Bailey but they need some guidance... and that can be me."

He also respects Coach Marinelli and his work ethic.

"I'd love to be coached by him. He really knows how to run a defense when he has the right pieces. And he wants me to be one of the gears that drives that engine. He was the mastermind behind some of the best defenses in the NFL in the past 10 years with the Bucs. He believes I can step in, learn the system and thrive. Whoever said you can't teach a new dog old tricks.... screw you."

There are also some perks that may be in his contract. He talked briefly about it.

"As you all know, this team is owned by the Fords. Well, I got something in my contract offer saying if I beat 120 tackles, I could get me a GT40. That car is hot! And 120 tackles is a piece of cake. You got Shaun Rogers leading a D-Line that is really shaping up.... I got this. I'll even give Shaun a ride if he helps me out. Well.... that is if he can fit himself in it, haha."

Yes........ GT40s are hot.

Rams | Team still pursuing defensive veterans - from www.KFFL.com
Fri, 16 Feb 2007 15:02:33 -0800

Nick Wagoner, of StLouisRams.com, reports that, despite making an impact in free agency by adding DT Ian Scott (http://www.kffl.com/player/6060/NFL) and DE Chris Kelsay (http://www.kffl.com/player/5948/nfl), the St. Louis Rams (http://www.kffl.com/team/34/nfl) still have a handful of free agent targets left on their plate. Sources within the organization confirm that the Rams are attempting to sign a veteran linebacker with versatility for the strong side and the middle linebacker positions. Two names that keep coming up in discussions are LBs Napoleon Harris (http://www.kffl.com/player/5803/nfl) and Chris Draft (http://www.kffl.com/player/79/nfl), both of whom the Rams feel could push LB Brandon Chillar (http://www.kffl.com/player/9728/nfl) for his starting job. The Rams are also still pursuing DT Kenderick Allen (http://www.kffl.com/player/7974/NFL), whom they tried to sign in 2006 and remain interested in. Rams coaches believe that Allen would make for an adequate back-up at the nose tackle position behind Scott, and reports indicate a contract offer has been faxed on Allen’s agent.

Saints, Edwards nearing deal

By LARRY HOLDER
SUN HERALD

The New Orleans Saints and former San Diego Charger linebacker Donnie Edwards are edging closer to getting a deal done that would send the eleven year veteran to New Orleans. According to Edwards agent, only a few details need to be worked out with his client and then a deal will be finalized.

Edwards, a Pro Bowler in 2003, recently stated an interview his desire to play for the Saints.

"I wanted to go there [New Orleans] last year but I was stopped. This year, nothing is in my way. Their a good team. Coach Payton has done a great job down there. They're a contender. They were only a game away from getting to the Super Bowl last year. Getting to the Super Bowl is something I want to do before I retire and the Saints are a team that will give me a great chance to make that dream a reality."

The heavily coveted Donnie Edwards said he won't return to the San Diego Chargers next season. The Saints made several attempts to acquire the inside linebacker during last offseason. They settled for Mark Simoneau and Edwards would be an upgrade. Edwards had 144 total tackles this season, but he'll turn 34 in April.

Edwards former teammate and current Saints quarterback, Drew Brees, has been key in trying to lure the inside linebacker to New Orleans. Both Brees and Edwards share the same agent and were friends while in San Diego.

A deal seems imminent and would help the Saints out tremendously. According to the Saints GM, Edwards is one of their last free agents they are targeting and once they acquire him then all of their attention will then be diverted to the draft.

The Saints, however, are not the only team hotly pursuing Edwards. The Detroit Lions are also trying to land the highly sought after free agent.

"Yeah, I've received a nice offer from the Lions. Right now, my two choices are the Saints and Lions. In Detroit, I'd have an opportunity to help mentor some talented guys and help turn around a franchise. In New Orleans, I'd play for a team that is in the process of turning itself around and are close to playing for a Super Bowl. Both franchises are great and I'd love to play for either one, however, the best opportunity for me to play in a Super Bowl lies in the Big Easy."

An announcement is set for today on who Edwards will sign with but Saints fans should have faith that they will land this much needed free agent.

DREW SHARP

Edwards meets up with a UCLA alum

Febuary 16th, 2007

BY DREW SHARP
DETROIT FREE PRESS COLUMNIST

Recently, Donnie Edwards has been logging major frequent flyer miles, criss crossing the country from San Diego to New Orleans back to San Diego then back to Detroit and anywhere in between. In his stop at Detroit, he spoke with the Lions LB coach Phil Snow.

http://www.detroitlions.com/photos/Snow_HS_Bio06.jpg

These two have something in common. Both are associated with the University of California - Los Angeles. Donnie Edwards having played there and Phil Snow being a coach of the Golden Bears. Phil spoke to me about Donnie.

"Both of us are associated with UCLA and that really helps. We both know what it takes to play for that team... and I know what it takes to be a Detroit Lion. And Donnie has what it takes to lead this defense, and I will make the transition as seemless as possible" said Snow.

"See, you think a Cali boy like him wouldn't want to come to snowy Detroit but that can't be farther from the truth. I manage and I love it out here. I've made the adjustment and he will too."

"Yeah, seeing as Coach Snow coached UCLA, that really has helped me" said Edwards. "I know he has what it takes if he was a coach for UCLA. And I always gotta help out a UCLA guy."

To me, this link really helps the Lions out as far as leverage goes. That and they have more financial flexibility then the Saints may have. As don't forget about that GT40 that is a performance bonus.

"I said it once, I'll say it again.... I want that damn car" said Edwards.

While he wants that, he wants to lead a defense even more and he will do that in Detroit, just like he did in SD. He posted amazing tackle totals year after year after year in San Diego. And he will continue to do so in Detroit.

"I think I am set up to succeed in Detroit. You got the two Shaun's up there [Cody and Rogers] who can stop the run, take up blockers and get to the passer. With those two disrupting the middle, imagine what I could do. I played with one DT for the past few years and look what I did. Imagine what I can do with two, especially one the size of Big Daddy [Shaun Rogers]. He's huge! And I can't forget about the defensive end situation. This is maybe a little bit of inside information but the Lions told me they fully intend on going after a DE in the 1st or 2nd... atleast the first day. Couple them with James Hall who had a break out year a year or two ago.... you got a great line right there. Top 5 in the NFL maybe. With me behind them... you can't go wrong. You just can't."

http://www.pinupgolf.com/image/20040304-06-small.jpg

"And as you know... I am a big fan of golf [see picture above]. Well, after I get out of practice, I can take a 1 or 2 minute drive to the TPC Michigan, a great golf course. PGA Tours have played there before. Hell, I think Mike [Franklin]'s grand parents live there too.

Hopefully the Lions and Donnie Edwards are as good as a hole in one.

Breaking News from 49ers Cam

http://images.nfl.com/images/nflnetwork/eisen_rich.jpg

I'm hearing the words, Idiot Agent David Joseph Strikes Again. Adam Schefter, can this be true?

http://images.nfl.com/images/author/8830.jpg

Well Rich, we’ve been wondering why haven’t the San Francisco 49ers, with their porous defense and $38 plus million dollars in salary cap space done anything in free agency so far. Well as it turns out, a familiar face missed the boat … again. The team had hired Terrell Owens’ former agent David Joseph to help with their off-season plans, but Joseph once again misread the league notifications about the start of free agency and it cost the 49ers a “golden” chance at some solid free agents.

http://images.nfl.com/images/nflnetwork/eisen_rich.jpg

Wow, Adam. Guess David Joseph just can’t do anything right. Are you sure this is possible?

http://images.nfl.com/images/author/8830.jpg

Take it for what it’s worth Rich, you know me … I’m just a “rumor mongorer.”

http://images.nfl.com/images/nflnetwork/eisen_rich.jpg

Well, we heard the 49ers mined the bottom of the barrel for some remaining free agents.

http://images.nfl.com/images/author/8830.jpg

Yes, San Francisco moved quickly to sign some much needed depth at running back with recently released Jamal Lewis. SF needed a goalline back and Lewis signed an incentive laden 1-year deal that should pay him handsomely if he can stay healthy and make the most of the 10 or so carries SF wants to give him as Frank Gore’s backup.

The 9ers also brought back a familiar face in Eric Johnson, who tested the free agent market and didn’t find much out there. Also, interior backup lineman Tony Wragge was brought back to provide depth to the offensive line.

On defense, SF signed Baltimore’s Jarrett Johnson because he “played for the Ravens defense and they’re good.”

http://images.nfl.com/images/nflnetwork/eisen_rich.jpg

Well, things are sure crazy over there in the Bay. Thanks Adam for the report.

Patriots re-sign Brown, Davis, sign WR Taylor
New England adds three more free agents to the mix

The New England Patriots finalized three more one-year deals today, including re-signing wide receiver and fan favorite Troy Brown and special teams ace Don Davis. Both Brown and Davis will play for the veteran minimum, with a chance to make more based on incentives. Taylor will also play for the league minimum, but has a chance to work his salary higher based on playing time and yards. None of these players are expected to start on offense or defense, but Davis will surely start on the special teams unit, and Troy Brown could get reps at wide receiver, cornerback, or punt returner.

Saints sign Edwards, prepare for Draft
Linebacker solidifies defense, adds depth

Saturday, February 17, 2007
By A.J. Smith
Staff Writer

After one of the best seasons in New Orleans' franchise history, going 10 and
6 in the regular season, earning their second ever playoff victory and advancing to
the NFC Championship for the first time ever, the Saints might have also had one
of the best off-seasons in recent memory as well.

Yesterday's signing of former Chargers linebacker Donnie Edwards and re-signing
of offensive guard Montrae Holland ups the Saints free agency signing total to
ten players, including four players from other teams.

"I think we've had one of the best off-seasons off all the teams in the whole NFL,"
said Saints general manager diabsoule.

diabsoule, along with director of player personnel, Saints Dome Patrol, have definitely
built on last year's successes and have greatly improved the entire team, especially
in the secondary, with adding both former Colts cornerback Jason David and former
Eagles cornerback Roderick Hood.

"With Mike McKenzie getting up there in years, and after cutting both Fred
[Thomas] and Jason [Craft], we knew that cornerback was going to be one of our
main priorities this off-season," diabsoule said.

"Now with [Rod] Hood and Jason [David], and with the Draft coming up, we have
the opportunity to have one of the best secondaries in the whole league."

Another position that needed upgrading this off-season was linebacker, especially
in the middle. where Mark Simoneau and Danny Clark were solid, but anything
but spectular. Simoneau totaled around 65 tackles and Clark was mainly used
for special teams and in "mop-up" duty.

Surprisingly enough, Clark was the only Saints player lost to free agency, signing
with the Houston Texans. However, the signing of Edwards definitely helped
upgrade the position over Simoneau and also adds more veteran leadership to
the linebacker corps.

"We're really excited to have Donnie [Edwards] on our team," said Saints Dome
Patrol. "We tried to bring him to New Orleans last season, but things went
awry with the Chargers last season."

But with Edwards as a free agent, the process of bringing the eleven-year
veteran from California to Louisiana was a lot easier.

Both current Saints quarterback Drew Brees, and Edwards share the same
agent, Tom Condon, and were good friends in San Diego.

"We were able to bring Donnie [Edwards] in for a visit, showed him around the
city, but not just the hot-spots in the French Quarter. We brought him around
the Lower Ninth Ward and showed him all the damage that [Hurricane] Katrina
did to the city," Saints Dome Patrol said.

"And the thing that really got Donnie [Edwards] were all the people that were
still die-hard Saints fans. They may have lost everything in the storms (in 2005)
but they're still faithful fans. One person went up to Donnie and said 'Katrina
might have taken my home, but she'll never take my Saints.'," recalled Saints
Dome Patrol.

"I think that really moved Donnie more than any amount of money ever could."

Now with the majority of the off-season signings completed, the two new Saints
front office members will meet with Saints coach Sean Payton and their scouts
and discuss which players to target in the upcoming NFL Draft.

If the free agency period is any indication, the Saints will also be quite active
in the Draft as well.

"Even with our recent signings, we're still looking to upgrade some of our
positions, especially on our defense," said diabsoule. "If we get one or two
more cornerbacks and another linebacker (in the Draft), I think we'd really
improve our team from last season, and definitely be well on our way to
Glendale [Arizona, home of Super Bowl XLII]."

One player that intrigues the Saints front office is Penn State linebacker Paul
Posluszny. Posluszny was one of the most feared linebackers in college
football, totaling more than one hundred tackles, and four sacks this past
season.

Posluszny was also an AP All-American and the winner of the Bednarik
Award in both 2005 and 2006.

"We think that "Puz" [Paul Posluszny] will be a premier player in this league
and we'd love to have someone of his caliber on our team," Saints Dome
Patrol said.

Another player that the Saints might be targeting in the upcoming Draft is
Texas cornerback Aaron Ross.

"Aaron [Ross] is definitely a player we'd love to have on our team," said
diabsoule. "He follows the great tradition of Texas cornerbacks like
[Nathan] Vasher, Michael [Huff] and [Cedric] Griffin and could step in
and be a starter right away."

Ross finished his senior season with the Texas Longhorns with 80
tackles, 19 passes broken up and six interceptions.

With the Saints holding on to the twenty-seventh pick of the first round,
several other players might also be possible selections such as North
Carolina State defensive tackle DeMarcus Tyler, Miami (FL) outside
linebacker Jon Beason, and LSU wide receiver Dwayne Bowe.

"There are several players that we're looking at (in the Draft). And
after filling our some of our needs in free agency, we're sure that we
can continue to build on our success with another great Draft,"
diabsoule said.

"After last year's turnaround, we're real excited to get to work on our
big board and ready for the Draft. We know that even though we're
not picking until the end of the first round, it's just a small inconvenience,"
said Saints Dome Patrol

"It's the price you pay for success," said Saints Dome Patrol with a smile.

CHIEFS LOOKING FOR LINE HELP

http://www.vueart.com/images/scrooge_mcduck.jpg
by Scrooge McDuck

My sources in the Chiefs organization tell me they were not pleased with the amount of talent available along the offensive line in free agency this year. My sources tell me they have attempted to sign a few linemen, but have failed to bring any to terms. In fact, their line got even weaker when versatile offensive lineman Jordan Black signed with the New York football Giants.

Thanks to modern technology, I was able to record the following exchange between co-GM's villagewarrior and eazyb81:

http://i15.tinypic.com/2qisbqb.jpg
eazy: We need to upgrade our line.

http://www.sonofthesouth.net/union-generals/sioux-indians/pictures/sioux-warrior.jpg
vw: Really? Which one?

eazy: Well, both, really.

vw: That's true, we've tried to sign a few guys like (mumbles a few names, unintelligible) but we have been rejected. It's like high school all over again.

eazy: What do you mean?

vw: You know, you ask a girl and she says no...

eazy: We're getting sidetracked. We need to talk about offensive linemen.

vw: There are none.

eazy: We may have to trade for one...

There you have it folks, the Chiefs are officially in the trade market for offensive linemen. With the Kansas City Chiefs, I'm Scrooge McDuck.

Lions not done in free agency...

The Detroit Lions have had a quiet but successful free agency by retaining Cory Redding and Boss Bailey while adding Kevin Curtis and Lousaka Polite. But they Lions are not done and hope to fill more holes on the team.

Much has been made about Kevin Jones injury and there have been conflicting reports. The Lions brass are not looking to take any chances and looking to bring in veteran running back Jamal Lewis. Lewis does not exactly fit Martz scheme, but he is a proven vet with potential to be very successful.
http://www.fantasyfootballfiles.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/02/Jamal-Lewis.jpg

Another glaring weakness on the Lions roster is at MLB. My sources have indicated that the Lions are pushing very hard for Chris Draft. The Lions are looking for a veteran to fill the hole and Chris Draft is just that. Draft has been healthly through the years and is a productive player.

Lions brass believes that bringing in these two players would add depth and productivity to the team in 2007.

25 million plus, and jack White to show for it.
by Tom Silverstein.

When Green Bay opened up in free agency as a team on the uprise, their hall of fame quarterback coming back for his last possible hurrah, twenty five million plus to show for it.

Spirits were high. Certainly they would be able to at least land a big name and some solid talent.

WRONG.

Tracy White, LB and special teams demon, was the only free agent that Green Bay was able to sign.

...What?

Apparently a starting position and a hefty hefty contract was unable to lure LB/DE tweener A. Thomas, unable to sign Roderick Hood who Green Bay aggressively pursued, unable to sign Tully-Banta Cain, unable to sign Eric Johnson.

Twenty five million dollars and special teams standout Tracy White is the only man who the Pack was able to sign.

We're not sure how Green Bay was unable to sign at least one of the first day free agents that they pursued, but it definitely makes us raise our eyebrows.

Stranger things have happened...

Maybe Detroit will reach the Super Bowl next year.

Then again, maybe not.

Thank you everyone for joining us here today on such short notice. With my deepest of sympathy, I am here to make an announcement that I was hoping I would not have to make. As General Manager of the New York Giants, there are several perks to the position I call my own. However at the same time, it is days like these that keep me up at night, wondering "what if". I hate to be the messenger on this one, but I am here to inform you that Lavar Arrington will no longer be part of the New York Giants. As we all know, we took a gamble last offseason, hoping Lavar would be the next great playmaking LB in Big Blue history, one that this defense sorely needed. But a ruptured achilles tendon on the night where he was a disruptive force in Dallas could be the last football injury related injury he will go through. He has failed his physical not because of a lack of hard work, but simply because of bad luck. His career, in all likelihood, is over. We have decided that we cannot afford to keep him around despite his outstanding presence in the locker room. We wish him the best with his future and only Lavar knows if this is the end of the road in terms of his NFL career. Lavar?

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/number10ds/lainjury.jpg

"Thank you Mr. Reese. It's shocking how much can go down in a year. Last year I was at the highest of highs, looking forward to bringing this defense to another level. But, as we all know, I suffered some awful luck yet again on a freak injury. I have been working hard in the weight room to keep my body in shape, but it appears that my achilles won't be ready anytime soon. This injury has started to lead me to believe that it is all over. Not to say I am giving up, but there are other areas in life outside of the game that I want to pursue and unless I can fully regain my health from a tough injury to come back from, I'll ride off into the sunset. I have no ill feelings towards Giant management because I simply don't fit in with what they are trying to do here. They gave me a lucrative offer last year but with the money that I was due to make, to say I was a risky investment would be the understatement of the century. Thank you to the fans for the ongoing support and even thought I was only here for a year, I can honestly say this was the happiest I have been over the past 3-4 years."

Lavar in Tampa?

With the recent announcement of Lavar Arrington and the New York Giants parting ways, Tampa has emerged as a possible destination for the oft injured player. Tampa have plans to possibly start him over OLB Ryan Nece with the intentions of taking over for OLB stalwart Derrick Brooks in the coming years. With a lack of FA dealings so far, Tampa figure to have a plentiful amount of cap left over to make a substantial move at the player.

Expect Tampa to make their move soon.

Bucs Interview Gaines Adams

http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/22/221076.jpg

The Tampa Bay Bucs just held an interview with Clemson defensive end Gaines Adams. Adams said it went well and he'd love to get picked anywere in the top 5 and would be quite happy if he went to Tampa. The Bucs are trading Simeon Rice this off-season and could really use a younger version of him. Adams possesses great speed and quickness that could greatly improve Monte Kiffen's defense.

The Bucs also are trying to trade down a couple spots, and get some help on defense via the draft, FA or trades. But Jon Gruden has mentioned that he likes Adams at that 3rd/4th spot.

DREW SHARP

Two new players in the Lions sights

Febuary 17th, 2007

BY DREW SHARP
DETROIT FREE PRESS COLUMNIST

Recently, the Lions were spurned by MLB Donnie Edwards to sign with the New Orleans Saints. This presented a problem because the Lions view MLB as one of their biggest holes and one of the main things they have to address via free agency. Enter Chris Draft.

http://i.a.cnn.net/si/images/football/nfl/players/4386.jpg

Last year, Chris Draft played for the Carolina Panthers. The 5'11" 232 veteran amassed 107 total tackles along with 5.5 sacks. The Lions are hoping that they can fill thier MLB hole with Draft.

"Yes, we still need a MLB" said Assistant GM Michael Franklin. "Don't even get me started about Donnie Edwards. But now we have our eyes set on Chris. The same that was said about Donnie can be said about Chris... besides the fact Donnie is a jack... sorry. Chris played very well for the Panthers last year. He can come in and fight for the starting spot with Teddy Lehman and Paris Lenon."

http://www.packersnews.com/legacy/photogallery/2005/game/092505/images/clayton%20runES.jpg

"I wish Teddy could be our starting MLB but having his past 2 seasons end way too early with foot and ankle injuries, we need a fallback option. Don't get me wrong, Paris did an admirable job but if you don't try to get better, then what is the point? With Chris we would definetely get better with whoever is in there."

Speaking of injuries, the starting RB of the Detroit Lions has his 2007 season up in the air because of a foot injury. This is a big deal because it leaves the Lions without a proven RB on thier roster.

"Right now, our RB situation is not that great. We wanted to have KJ as our horse but that may not work out. We have Brian [Calhoun] but we are not sure if he can take the beating of the everyday grind. That is why we are talking to Jamal Lewis."

http://artfiles.art.com/images/-/Jamal-Lewis-05-06---Running-Action-Photograph-C11900691.jpeg

"We have gotten in contact with Jamal's agent inquiring about his services. No.... not THOSE services. Get your mind out of that.... His running back skills. While he is not a perfect fit for our system, he can still come in and put up numbers. He is a big back that can run around people or just truck them and put them on thier back. We have full faith that he can come in and perform. He has put up pretty good numbers in all his years in Baltimore. And this is when opposing defenses have been stacking 8 or 9 in the box KNOWING he was going to run the ball. Well, now we have WRs to take the focus off of him. I think he will do really well for us."

ESPN Reporting

Feb. 18th, 2007

The Tampa Bay Buc's are very busy this off-season. I caught up and had a very pleasant conversation with both GM's. They are looking to trade down form the 3rd/4th spot, about 5 to 10 spots back. They have reached an agreement with a team in the AFC that has won one SuperBowl in the last 7 years. But that team only wants one player and should he be there than the deal will be down, also pending Mr. Ward's coin flip.

Some players that they are shopping around to multiple GM's; Michael Clayton could be aquired with a mid 3rd to early 4th round pick in vale, Simeon Rice for a 3rd rounder, Will Allen and Jermain Philips for 4th rounders, maybe even a 5th. And Brian Kelly for about that same value.

The Buc's have not admitted it yet but sources tell ESPN that a DT from the AFC South could be traded to Tampa for a mid round pick and a player.

Lions trading down?

At the moment, the Lions have been talking to multiple teams about trading down from the #2 pick. The reason is Joe Thomas.

http://i.a.cnn.net/si/multimedia/photo_gallery/0608/gallery.cfb.big10/images/thomas.jpg

It is no secret LT is a very important position and there is multiple teams that need help in this area. The Lions have been shopping this pick and think they have found a suitable team that wants to move up to #2. If the Lions do infact move down, they will only do it if they get picks and players in the right package. Otherwise, they would be happy to stay at #2 and take Joe Thomas. Offensive line help is needed in Detroit but if they are given the right package they will move down out of the #2 spot.

The Bengals already finalizing one deal and looking to trade more

The Bengals have made a deal for a former 1st round pick. Marvin Lewis has commented that "won't release any details," but "[he] will have an impact on our team."

Likewise, the Bengals are looking to trade down in the first round so they can get a 3rd round pick, which was lost by getting Ahmad Brooks at LB in last years supplemental draft.

Offensive Artillery
Green Bay possibly bringing in more ammunition for Favre

After agreeing to a deal with the Oakland Raiders to acquire disgruntled wide receiver Randy Moss, Green Bay has stepped back in the trade market in hopes of adding one more face to the offense.

"We were unable to really make a splash in free agency but we've explored options in terms to trades, and we feel that we will have helped ourselves greatly if we can seal the deal on one specific trade," said Co-GM GB12.

GB12 would not comment on who the Packers were talking to or who they were targeting, but he did assure me that talks were very active and the deal is close to completion.

Sources around the NFL have gathered the Packers need depth at two positons, tight end and running back, and the deal provides that much needed depth to one of the two. Also, the Packers may have included another draft pick in a deal, and if they were to lose a pick, they would have dealt two of their draft picks in hopes of improving the team. The teams believe to have been talked to about various deals have been the Buccaneers, Chiefs, Patriots, and Jets.

Lance Briggs on the way out?

The Bears are reportedly close to trading all-pro LB Lance Briggs. Apparently, the only reason why a deal hasn't been finalized already is because the organization is still listening to some offers. Reportedly, the deal would include Briggs, draft picks, and another player.

Hargrove Extended
DE Anthony Hargrove now signed through 2011

Head general manager Marv Levy announced in a press conference earlier this morning that DE Anthony Hargrove had signed a contract extension through the 2011 season. Hargrove was initially a Restricted Free Agent (RFA) this year and signed a 1 year low tender offer. He was acquired from the Rams at mid-season last year for a 5th Round Pick in the NFL Draft and played well in his limited opportunities. After Bills DE Chris Kelsay was signed by those very same Rams in Free Agency, the Bills wanted to lock up Hargrove long term. Last season after Hargrove familiarized himself with the Bills’ playbook, he was able to provide consistent pressure opposite of Pro Bowl DE Aaron Schobel even though he did not start. A rotation of Hargrove and Ryan Denney is likely next year at RE. In accordance of club policy, the financial terms of the contract were not released.

Hargrove recieves special treatment from Defensive Line Coach Bill Kollar

When asked about the extension and the Buffalo Bills organization in general, Hargrove stated, “Buffalo has been great so far for me. At first I was just thankful for a fresh start and change of scenery from my dreadful experience in St. Louis, but now I genuinely like the city of Buffalo. I am very excited that the Bills organization and I were able to come to terms on an extension because it gives me some stability for myself and my family. The Bills fans and players have shown a lot of compassion towards me even after I was labeled as a “locker room cancer” in St. Louis and I am very appreciative towards them. The Bills are a very young, up-an-coming team and we will be very dangerous next year. I anxiously await my next 4 years with the Buffalo Bills.”

Bills continue offseason spending binge, extend Evans

Chris Brown

The “grumpy old men” of the Buffalo Bills continue to shell out their life savings. Today, owner Ralph Wilson Jr. announced that WR Lee Evans had signed a contract extension through the 2012 season. Financial terms were not released, but the five year deal is believed to be worth as much as $35 million. Evans exploded onto the scene as a rookie as a bona fide deep threat and only continued to progress and develop into a legitimate #1 WR. He caught 82 passes for 1292 yards and 8 TD’s last year and established great chemistry with starting QB J.P. Losman.

http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/1718/evanson5.jpg
Evans, pictured above, makes a leaping catch over ex-Chiefs' safety Eric Warfield.

Evans was reached for comment and stated, “Obviously I am thrilled with this extension. My career thus far with the Bills is all that I could have hoped for and more. J.P. and I are the most dangerous QB and WR duo in the entire NFL and we will continue to prove this for years to come. This extension gives me stability in Buffalo and incentive to produce at a Pro Bowl level for this organization. I really like how Mr. Wilson is paying guys on our team long-term because we feel we have Super Bowl potential within the next few years.”

The Bills continue to flex their money muscle with Evans’ recent extension. They have managed to keep their young and talented players as the foundation of their team with the latest long term deals given to LT Jason Peters last summer and K Rian Lindell, DE Anthony Hargrove, WR Lee Evans and CB Nate Clements this offseason.

CHIEFS ENTERTAINING TRADE OFFERS

http://www.vueart.com/images/scrooge_mcduck.jpg
by Scrooge McDuck

My sources inside the Chiefs Front Office have informed me that co-General Manager villagewarrior has been working the phones like a mad man, trying to unload some of the players he considers to be "dead weight". One such player is none other than high priced free agent pickup of two years ago Kendrell Bell.

http://www.kcchiefs.com/media/players/kendrell_bell.jpg

A former 2nd round pick and Defensive Rookie of the Year, Bell stood out as an inside linebacker in the Steeler's vaunted 34 defense; however, his play since moving to Kansas City has been less than stellar. In 2 years, Bell has amassed 115 tackles and 2 sacks, which is only 3 less tackles than starting middle linebacker Kawika Mitchell had this season alone.

http://www.sonofthesouth.net/union-generals/sioux-indians/pictures/sioux-warrior.jpg

vw: Kendrell is a fantastic man with skills that would really benefit a team that employs a 34 defense. We, however, employ a cover 2 43 defensive scheme. Kendrell just does not fit in with what we are trying to do here.

My sources have told me that the Chiefs would like to be able to net a 3rd round pick in exchange for Bell's services, however they are said to be flexible on the matter.

Bills | Other (Worthless) Tidbits
Fri, 9 Feb 2007 12:24:17 -0800

The Buffalo Bills announced today that they have cut WR George Wilson and LB Roy Manning. Also, WR Daunta Peterson was assigned #19 as he did not have a number previously. In the same boat were Chris Denney (aka GOD according to SuperMcGee) who was assigned #87 and Kirk Chambers who was assigned #61. Finally, Mike Schneck changed his number from #54 to #64 and Coy Wire switched his number from #27 to #50 because of his switch from SS to OLB.

Raiders, Moss to Part Ways

The Oakland Raiders and Randy Moss sounded great together. 2 Years Ago.
It's been no secret that the Raiders have been shopping him this offseason and it looks like Moss has finally found a new home in Green Bay.
The deal has yet to be finalized but all players involved have been notified. Rumored in the deal, the Raiders will receive a 3rd Round Pick plus WR Ruvell Martin. Martin, who had a breakout year last year will provide another solid option to the struggling Raiders Offense. The 3rd Round Pick the Raiders will receive will help the Staff fill one of the many needs on the roster.

"It's a great opportunity. Green Bay has been great and I truly appreciate everything the Organization and Fans have done for me.
I look forward to many bright days in Oakland", said Martin after leaving the Packers Complex

Moss to Green Bay?

By BOB McGINN
bmcginn@journalsentinel.com
Posted: Feb. 20, 2007

Green Bay - If you were to look at the list of upcoming opponents for the Packers next season you would see the 2-14 Oakland Raiders. Mostlikely the first player you would think of on the Raiders is Randy Moss. He might be the one player that you don't see on the team plane to Green Bay though. He will be at the game, but could be on the other sideline.

http://www.prosportspictures.com/images/oakland-raiders/05-randy-moss-action-2.jpg
The Packers appear to be in deep trade talks with the Raiders about bringing in Moss. They seem to have already agreed on a deal and are just waiting for league approval. From what I have heard Green Bay will be sending a third round pick along with WR Ruevell Martin to the Raiders for Randy moss.

Some Packer fans are against this because of him being on the Vikings and the actions he has taken. He has made himself look like a jerk many times including the mooning incident.
http://blogranger.typepad.com/blogranger/images/Moss.jpg

All indications are that Packer management doesn't give a damn about what those fans think. An unnamed front office member said "If you are going to stop watching the Packers because of just on guy, go ahead. We don't need you. We have plenty of real fans that will follow the organization no matter what, if anything it will seperate [real fans] from the light followers. We feel that getting Randy gives us the best chance to win and that is the most important thing to us. We still care about the fans, but we do what's right for the organization, not what will please the fans."

So what will Moss bring to Green Bay? By pairing him with Donald Driver you basically have two number one receivers on the feild at all times. Defenses will have a very tough time covering both of them, since they both demand a #1 corner. But say they do cover them both, then Favre can send it to Gregg Jennings who is a number two playing third. It also opens up the run game. If they have to keep the extra DBs on the feild to cover the WRs, than the RB will have room to run. Moss is a lot better than any WR they could have gotten in the third and the Packers had plans of moving Carlyle Holiday ahead of Martin so losing him is no big deal.

RB Dillon Granted Release

After publicly stating that he would like to be released following a three-year tenure with the New England Patriots, the team granted his wish by cutting starting running back Corey Dillon. Dillon, who is contemplating retirement, stated that he was happy with the Patriots, but felt he could contribute more elsewhere. "At this point, we both decided it would be best for both parties to part ways," stated head coach Bill Belichick. "Corey's a great person and a great player and we wish him luck." The team also released free safety Tebucky Jones, a former first-round pick of the club, whose season-ending injury last year was apparently more serious than first expected.

Eagles Trading Back???

According to reliable sources, the Eagles are in negotiations with several teams for their first round pick. While the pick has not been moved, substantive preliminary discussions have been held with other GM's.

Analysis: The Eagles have needs at LB, Safety, CB, DLine, and WR. They do not have their 4th round pick in this year's draft, and the likelihood of them being awarded compensatory picks in 2007 is very low. With the depth of the draft as it is, it is not surprising for the team to look to accumulate multiple first day picks to shore up depth in key areas.

The Bell Tolls in Titletown

With winter weather heading up from Colorado, a member of the Denver Broncos will be following it north. Running back Tatum Bell was acquired today by the Green Bay Packers in exchange for their 2007 fourth round pick and cornerback Patrick Dendy. With free agency slow, the Packers decided to hit the trade market once again to fill a need.

"Ahman Green isn't getting any younger and Tatum has had evident success in the zone blocking scheme down in Denver. He's a good fit for what were trying to get done here in Green Bay," said Packers Co-GM GB12.

The Packers now turn their attention to tomorrow's draft, in hope that they can continue to build a contender around Brett Favre.

Browns Shopping Pick?

According to inside sources, the Browns GMs (Freddy G and Bigrick) are apparently very open to any form of a trade down. Many teams have their eyes on certain elite prospects whom the Browns considering taking if they stay at #3 overall. Including, but not limiting, Calvin Johnson (not happy with Edwards), Joe Thomas (Kevin Shaffer is not the answer), Brady Quinn (Frye will soon be handing out fries), Jamaal Anderson (Romeo would love him some Seymour), and Adrian Peterson (remensicent of the great Jim Brown?).

Obviously the Browns have many needs and can go in any number of directions. All offers will be entertained as they are willing to deal.

More information to come as details are released.

BRONCOS ANNOUNCE TRADE
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Denver Broncos have parted ways with RB Tatum Bell, the team's 2nd round draft choice in 2004. In return, they've received Green Bay's 4th round draft choice in the upcoming 2007 draft (the 108th overall pick and the 13th in the round) and CB Patrick Dendy.

"We expect Dendy to compete for the nickle back position here in Denver with Karl Paymah and to provide us additional depth after the tragic loss of Darrent Williams during the off-season," Mike Shanahan said during the press conference. Patrick Dendy was Green Bay's nickle back for much of last year and was serviceable, although not spectacular in the role.

The trade of Tatum Bell does not come as a shock to many in the Broncos organization, after the player fell out of favor with the front office for fumbling issues in crucial situations. He had reportedly already fallen out of favor with Mike Shanahan because of his inability to properly find holes in Shanahan's complex running game.

"Tatum is a great running back, but we simply no longer felt he was able to be productive in our schemes. When Green Bay came with the offer of Dendy and a 4th, we jumped on it, as it allows us to address one issue with the team [lack of DB depth], as well as giving us a good draft pick to use to fill other needs," Shanahan said of Bell.

Veteran Guard Marco Rivera calls it quits

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e204/jblaze66/werder_ed_m.jpg
This is Ed Werder coming to you live from Valley Ranch. On Friday afternoon Cowboys starting right guard Marco Rivera held an emotional press confrence to announce his retirement from the NFL. Rivera underwent back surgery two weeks ago and his rehab has been nothing but disastrous. The 3 time Pro Bowler has decided to call it quits after 11 seasons in the NFL. Rivera underwent an MRI on his back Monday January 8th after suffering an injury in the the Cowboys' playoff loss to the Seahawks. Rivera's back also locked up on him after the near-four-hour plane ride home to Dallas. Rivera underwent surgery on Wednesday February 7th. The surgery was the second procedure on his back in two years. Just a week after signing with the Cowboys in the spring of 2005, Rivera suffered a herniated disk that required surgery. Rivera was able to play that season, but admitted he wasn't able to return to normal until the start of the 2006 season. Rivera, an 11-year veteran, started all 16 games at right guard this past season. Marco was a 6th round draft choice for the Green Bay Packers in the 1996 NFL draft. He spent his first 9 seasons in Green Bay before joining the Cowboys in 2005.

Locked Up: Busy Night before the Draft for the Bears

Bears lock up two players; restructure contract with one

February 23, 2007

BY BRAD BIGGS Staff Reporter

Chicago --

The Bears had a busy day today, signing two players to extensions, and re-worked All-Pro Mike Brown’s contract. The two players signed to extensions were All-Pro CB Nathan Vasher and Grossman’s main target WR Bernard Berrian. Both of them were free agents after 07, and the Bears felt they needed to lock both of them up. Also, Mike Brown got his contract re-worked mainly because of injury concerns. The Bears cannot afford to pay him to be injured another season, and he agreed, willing to re-work his contract.

Bernard Berrian, Mike Brown, and Nathan Vasher (left to right) all have new contracts

Nathan Vasher’s contract has reportedly been worth 5 years and Berrian’s worth 4 years. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed yet. Mike Brown’s new contract restructures his salaries in 2007 and 2008 of 2,440,000 to 1,000,000 in 2007 and 1,440,000 in 2008. It also adds another year to his contract in 2009 worth 2,000,000.

Panthers Prepare for Draft
Put Star Linebacker on the Market

Erin Andrews of ESPN

http://images.nfl.com/photos/img7049440.jpg

ESPN's Erin Andrews has confirmed that the Carolina Panthers are willing to listen to offers for linebacker Dan Morgan. According to Andrews the team is not in a hurry to deal their talented but concussion-prone defensive star but depending on what transpires in the draft and if the right offer came along there is a chance he could be dealt.

After addressing their two most pressing needs at outside linebacker (Cato June) and safety (Ken Hamlin) the Panthers don't feel they have to lock in on any one position in the draft, specifically in round one, and could really go any direction with that first pick. Carolina is also said to be exploring a potential trade down in round one in an effort to accumulate additional draft picks.

Steelers Trade for Veteran Corner

http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/4189/blykg6.jpg

Going into the 2007 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers have several offensive and defensive needs. Now they can scratch off one of them.

Yesterday, the Steelers made a deal with the Detroit Lions that will send two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Dre' Bly to Pittsburgh, in exchange for a 3rd round choice in today's draft, as well as a conditional choice in 2008.

Steelers Director of Football Operations had this to say about the trade:

http://www.theonion.com/content/files/images/onion_news1568.article.jpg

"We're very excited to add Bly to our defensive back field. He and recent signing Duane Starks will bring a huge veteran presence to our defense going into 2007. Of course, there's still some work to do, but if we feel like we can be Super Bowl contenders today, than we just need to fill some missing holes today in New York."

Saints front office prepare for draft
Defense, lack of depth still concern

Saturday, February 24, 2007
By A.J. Smith
Staff Writer

After the inital wave of free agency, the New Orleans Saints front office is
now preparing for making a splash in this weekend's NFL Draft.

With the twenty-seventh selection overall and five picks in the first day
alone, the Saints are prepared to address the remaining needs and also
add quality depth to their team.

"We're really excited with our off-season to this point," said Saints general
manager diabsoule. "But, as great as free agency has gone, we're still
anxious to see what happens this weekend."

"We know that we have the possibility to get another premier player (in
the first round) and then target several other positions later in the Draft."

If there was any problem with the Saints' success this past season, it
was the low draft selection in the first round. At twenty-seven, the Saints
may not have the opportunity at the headliners at the Javits Center this
weekend, but still could walk away from the Draft with a great player
regardless.

Rumors have been floating around the Saints' training facility in Metarie,
that the team might be looking to select cornerback Aaron Ross (http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/cb/aaronross.html), the
Thorpe Award winner from Texas in the first round. Cornerback was the
Saints' Achilles' heel last season, with both age and lack of depth
causing headaches for the coaching staff and fans alike.

"A cornerback like Aaron [Ross] could definitely step in and be a
starter on this team right away," said Saints Dome Patrol, the director
of player personnel.

Even though the Saints did address cornerback in free agency, signing
restricted free agent Jason David (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/492921) from the Indianapolis
Colts and unrestricted free agent Roderick Hood (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/396824) from the
Philadelphia Eagles, lack of depth is still an issue.

The Saints released both inconsistent cornerbacks Fred Thomas (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/4383) and
Jason Craft (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/133262) and refused to offer tender to two other free agent
cornerbacks on the roster. With the loss of these four players, the Saints
will definitely be looking to add to this position in the draft this weekend.

Another position of need is also linebacker, especially in the inside. Even
with the addition of veteran inside linebacker Donnie Edwards (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/3404), the Saints
front office are looking to add a quality linebacker to back up Edwards
and push Mark Simoneau (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/187646) for playing time.

"We're definitely interested in several of the big name inside linebackers
out there (in the Draft)," said diabsoule. "Someone like [Mississippi
linebacker Patrick] Willis or [Penn State linebacker Paul Posluszny] Puz
would be a major improvement for our linebacking corps."

Another issue that might be addressed during the Draft is the situation
surrounding disgruntled wide receiver Joe Horn (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/1511) and whether or
not he will be a member of the Saints this coming season.

An anonymous source close to the Saints front office reports that New
Orleans has been in negotiations with several other teams in the NFL,
attempting to trade the 11-year veteran for a draft selection in either
the end of the first day or possibly an early second day pick.

Horn has become unhappy with his situation with the team, being
pushed further down the depth chart after the emergence of rookie
Marques Colston (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/408644) and Devery Henderson (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/492959). Injuries limited Horn to only
ten games this season, and a little under 700 receiving yards and four
touchdowns.

"We're hoping to be able to get something done during this weekend
to make all parties interested happy," said Saints Dome
Patrol. "We'd love to keep Joe [Horn] in New Orleans, but if it doesn't
work out that way, we wish him all the success in the world."

Not unlike all the fans of the Black and Gold, the Saints organization
has been anxiously waiting and are quite excited for the Draft.

"We're ready," said diabsoule. "Don't be surprised if we make some
heads turn this weekend."

vw: It's with a heavy heart that we announce the trade of Dante Hall to the Green Bay Packers. In his time here in Kansas City, Dante has been nothing but a marvelous human being and an exciting football player. However, we believe Dante can now best serve this team by allowing us to acquire an offensive lineman.

Edwards: We appreciate everything Dante has done for us, however we are really excited to bring in a big man of Barry's size and athleticism. He is versatile, so he gives us a lot of options along our front five. Thanks, have a nice day.

Ginn will give Young that #1 target to throw to. His speed gives us a true deep threat, which we lacked on the roster the last few seasons.

Chris Berman: Welcome back to the Javits Center here in
New York City, and the 2007 NFL Draft. We've had a great
first round so far, with LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell going
first overall to the Oakland Raiders, cornerback Leon Hall falling all the way to the Dallas Cowboys at the 22nd pick and now the New Orleans Saints are on the clock. And Mort, who do you see Coach Sean Payton and the (imitates Creedence) "boys on the bayou " go with this selection?

http://www.thegbshow.com/images/interviews/ChrisMortensen.gif

Chris Mortensen: Well, Boomer, no doubt that the Saints were
looking at defense going into the Draft and with Chris Houston and DeMarcus Tyler still available here at twenty-seven, I wouldn't be surprised if either one goes right here to New Orleans. Let's go to draft expert Mel Kiper, Jr. with his best available.

Mel Kiper: Mort, I really think that Chris Houston would be an
excellent selection for the Saints here. He is someone
who would be a great addition for this team.

Chris Berman: Thanks, Mel. And the commissioner is
walking up to the podium, so the Saints' pick is in, and let's see who
they have selected here.

Head Coach Scott Linehan
Saturday, February 24, 2007

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v699/NickSeiler/Rams/NFLDC%20Fantasy%20Offseason/press.jpg

(Opening statement)

“This is the first opportunity I’ve had to meet with you all since the start of free agency, and obviously a lot has happened since then. We’ve brought back a couple of familiar faces and we’ve added some new players to this team, all in an effort to keep us competitive and challenge for not only the NFC West title but also the league title. We evaluated our current roster and identified areas we thought could use improvement, and were actually surprised with how well we were able to address those areas in free agency. We’ve just made our first selection in the 2007 NFL Draft and are excited about how the rest of the selection process may turn out.”

(On free agent signings)

“Obviously one of our biggest problem areas in 2006 was our run defense, and we felt we really needed to get more talented on the defensive line. We began that process last spring by bringing in La’Roi Glover and drafting players like Claude Wroten and Victor Adeyanju, but when you finish 31st in the league, you’ve still got some work to do.”

(On DTs Ian Scott and Kenderick Allen)

“Ian [Scott] was a guy we saw in person late in the season and then got to watch through the post-season. We feel he played well for the Bears and we like his ability to stop the run at the point of attack. We also feel as if he’ll be able to occupy blockers up front so that our talented group of linebackers can run around and make some plays. We’re excited to have him as part of this team. But with all that said, even after signing Ian, we still wanted to see some bulk up front. That’s where Kenderick [Allen] came in. He’s a hefty guy who is going to be a rotational player on that line for us. We have some packages where we really feel he’s going to shine. He’s someone we wanted to bring in last year but Green Bay got him.”

(On DE Chris Kelsay)

“We were talking to a number of [defensive] ends in free agency. We like the guys we already have - Leonard [Little], Victory [Adeyanju], and Brandon [Green]. But we felt we could use some additional talent, especially after we decided to part ways with Anthony Hargrove during the year. Chris [Kelsay] is coming off of his best year as a pro and we think he’s only going to get better. We like his ability rushing the passer and we also think he can help us defend the run. We’re hoping to have both he and Victor share time at that right end spot depending on the situation. We were really thrilled that we were able to bring him here to play football.”

(On other free agents)

“It was pretty apparent to us early in the process that things weren’t going to get done with Kevin [Curtis]. We briefly thought about using the franchise or transition tag, because we think that highly of him as a player. In the end, it just didn’t add up financially for us. We’re sad to see him go, but we feel it worked out well because we were able to bring in Justin Gage. Having watched him during my time in the NFC North, I felt pretty good about this kid. He hasn’t gotten much of a shot recently, but we feel he can be a solid #3 for us in our offense. He also brings size to the position, and that’s something we wanted to address. Napoleon Harris’ availability was a surprise to us. He had a good year for Minnesota and their run defense, and that’s some mojo we hope he can bottle up and bring down here. For the time being we look at him as a great depth player who will compete for a starting job. We feel that when you’ve got a guy like Harris and he has to compete to see time on the field, it means he’s a part of a strong unit. We also were happy to add a veteran cornerback in David Macklin. We knew we were going to lose Travis Fisher to free agency, and we’re still trying to sort out Jerametrius Butler’s status with the team. We’ve got some young guys in our secondary as it stands now, and just felt adding some experience back there would benefit the unit as a whole.”

(On first-round pick Patrick Willis)

“To start off with, we didn’t necessarily feel like we had to address the middle linebacker position. Will Witherspoon did a very good job inside during his first season for us. But ultimately we felt like we were missing that third guy that would really take this group to the next level, and we like what a kid like Patrick Willis brings to the table. He’s a tough competitor who is going to tackle anything that moves at the next level. He’s the kind of player that’s going to be in this league for a long time and make a lot of plays for you.”

(On their projected starting line-up)

“Having drafted Patrick [Willis], we envision moving Will [Witherspoon] outside where we think he’ll be in a better position to handle coverage responsibilities. Patrick will compete with Napoleon Harris for the starting middle linebacker job. On the defensive line, we have both Ian [Scott] and Chris [Kelsay] penciled into the starting line-up as well, but we’re hoping to see a lively camp competition for playing time on this defense.”

(On signing Marc Bulger to an extension)

“It’s something we’re looking at, definitely. We were all very impressed with how Marc [Bulger] transitioned to our new offense and how he reacted to what we were asking him to do. He was coming from a system where he took a lot of risks and now found himself playing things safe at times and checking down or throwing the ball away. He handled it exceptionally well and was playing in Hawaii for the second time in his career. You’re not going to find many quarterbacks in this league capable of playing the way Marc can, so it’s no secret that we’d like to keep him here for the long haul. Hopefully we get something worked out soon.”

Landry, Miller headed to Green Bay

The Green Bay Packers continued to build a contender on Saturday by adding two key pieces to the puzzle, safety out of Louisiana State Laron Landry and tight end out of Arizona State Zach Miller.

Landry played in 52 career college games, totaled up 315 tackles, and had 12 interceptions. Landry is described as tough, instinctive, and is just a flat-out playmaker in the secondary. He'll play beside Nick Collins rounding out maybe one of the best secondaries in the league.

Miller tallied up over 1500 yards and 14 touchdowns in his three year career at Arizona State. He may not be the fastest tight end in this draft, but he has some of the greatest hands at the tight end position, and that is exactly what the Packers were looking for. He's a big target for Favre as well at six feet, five inches tall.

I don't mean to brag but, http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=571398

Anyway,

After the arrival of 3rd round pick Marshall Yanda, 11-time all pro guard Will Shields walked in to head coach Herm Edwards' office and informed the coach of his desire to retire.

"It may have a little to do with the team picking [Yanda] up," Shields said Tuesday, "But it has more to do with my back and my knees always hurting. With the arrival of Marshall and Kevin [Barry] this year and John [Welbourne] and Tre [Stallings] in years past, I think the team will be able to move on without me."

"Those are some big shoes to fill," coach Edwards said at Shields' retirement press conference, "Will has had a long career, one that is most certainly going to garner Hall of Fame consideration."
