After watching all of the Buffaloes games this year, I have come to the conclusion that T-Wheat should be in consideration for a 1st round pick. I'm not saying he's better than Malcolm Jenkins or King and should be in the top-15 of the draft, I'm just saying that he should be among the top-5 senior cornerbacks and might be able to slip into the end of round one. He will test out well at the combine; he's got the speed and athleticism to cover NFL receivers and he's also a terrific return-man. Maybe I'm overrating him after one brilliant game, but the guy is a player. Anybody else see this in him?

I think you're being a homer. Actually, I know you're being a homer. But he could be a first day pick that not many people are talking about.

Of course I'm being a homer. That's why I am asking for an unbiased assessment.

Ok well.....

1)He's not a first rounder, at least not at this point.

2)He's not a top 5 senior CB. I'd probably rank him, just among seniors, about 11th or 12th.

It's not a strong cornerback class, and he's still not finding his way into the first day in many mocks I've seen.

All it takes is a good combine..

Cool. Then make a thread after he has a good combine.

I probably will.

Have you seen him play?

Sigh....

Yes. I've seen him play. Have you seen Indiana? San Diego State? Tennessee State?

Don't question my football knowledge, it's annoying. Did you actually want outside perspective or did you just want to make a thread and then come up with lame excuses to people that disagreed with you? Of course he could improve his stock at the combine, you could say that about every ******* player in the league.

Calm down, buddy. I was just asking a question. I didn't mean to insult your football knowledge.

edit:And yes I have seen Indiana and San Diego State. And, in my opinion, Wheatley is a very similar player to Tracy Porter.

Wheatly imo is underrated

the thing stopping him from being a 1st round pick is his size hes at most 5'10 and 185lbs...

he is VERY fast, and makes a lot of plays
hes got 5 ints this year, which gives him around 14 career ints...

he returns kicks, punts ect
he could've pursued a track career
in high school he ran the 100 meters in 10.15

Scott has him at a 4.45, but I think he could do better. He's also done his thing against very talented teams. He shutdown Malcolm Kelly and Juaquin Iglesias of Oklahoma (combined 2 rec, 15 yds) and had several great returns in that game that set CU up for victory. He played a fantastic game in a loss against Arizona State. And yesterday he made Graham Harrell, a possible (not likely) Heisman candidate, look stupid.

I haven't see a lot of this guy, but in the games I have, I've come away impressed. I had him as a 3rd Round pick in my latest mock.

Right now I think he's moving up. I have him as a fringe 2nd-3rd rounder who's only going up.

As for his speed, he ran a 4.39 and a 4.44 this spring.

I would also like to see him at safety, he is not only a good cover corner but he can also put a hit on you. I can see him as a solid 2nd round pick. Very good athlete and football player

Just wondering as a Lions fan who of course need good tackling CB in the Tampa 2, I know someone said he will hit but how is his tackling?

BufFan71

he usually tackles well....

but in the Kansas game they were being dominated on defense, so it didnt look like he was giving full effort with his tackles

I've always seen Charles Godfrey and Wheatley as similar players, Wheatley is probably a 3rd-4th round player, but Godfrey is more like a 2nd-3rd round player. I think Wheatley is a wee bit underrated.

I like Wheatley a lot. I expect him to go in around the 4th round and then be a starting corner in a few years. He's a very similar player to Ellis Hobbs. Is Ellis Hobbs a really good starter? No, but hes solid and so is Wheatley. Whoever gets Wheatley will be making a good pick up

I think Wheatley is probably in my 4th tier of corners right now and a 4th/5th round possibility. An underrated guy in some respects, but there's a logjam of corners in that 3rd-5th range, so he could slip a tiny bit. I could see him go as high as early 3rd, but I think he's a 2nd day pick as of now at best (that is, I don't see him in the top 2 rounds).
