Out of the two i say McKnight because he excelled against better competition this year. He was amazing in the Hoover game.

I'm not sold on Clausen. Probably will have to adjust to the speed of the game before he can become the prospect we think he'll be. Let's see how good Charlie Weis is as a guru.

As am I, but Mcknight didn't get my vote.

And Everson Griffen is pretty raw as a player, at this point he relies to heavily on speed and strength over technique. Can't wait to see him develop in Cardinal and Gold though! :D

yeah they were lousy, but we're finally getting into charlie weis' recruiting class. Before when he took over he was playing the cards that were dealt to him by tyrone willingham. Now he's got hes finally got his own players to work with.

I dont think they'll be beating usc anytime soon but i also dont think they'll be roadkill either.

The media doesn't lie, last person to receive so much attention out of high school? lebron james, and look how that turned out. Plus we dont know what either mcknight or clausen can do at the college level just yet.

Also look at how both players fit in each system.

Clausen is perfect for Notre Dame's/Charlie Weis's offense.

And you know USC is going to line up JM all over the field ala Reggie Bush. Wouldn't doubt seeing him used alot in the slot like Reggie was used in New Orleans this year, considering USC signed the Saints Passing coach to the same position this offseason.

Mcknight, in my opinion, but I haven't really seen Clausen.

When McKnight and John Curtis played Hoover, he really torched us.

so far everything i have seen from clausen makes me think he is overrated...he hasnt proven anything to me yet....mcknight has great speed and is an all purpouse back

well i cant fairly judge him until i watch him at the college level but he just doesnt seem as good as the hype from watching him in videos...im not sure how difficult his competition is but he just doesnt strike me as being so special to deserve all the attention he has been getting. he looks good but i dont know that he is the next best thing to happen to college football. i have a feeling there will be lower ranked QBs recruited that will out perform him when he starts

now i may be late, but either way thats good info to me, hadnt heard who they signed, and i think its interesting they went after the #1 offense this year who uses bush, and spreads the field....if thats the case mcknight should be beastly especially with all the talent on the field

Well besides Noel Devine, I think Terrance Toliver will be this year's best offensive recruit. Out of those two though, McKnight.

Mcknight for sure, Clause sucks he shouldnt even be the top QB prospect....Mallet should be, Top players should go,

1. Everson Griffen
2. Joe McKnight
3. Ryan Mallet
4. Marc Tyler
5. Marvin Austin

IMO, Devine.. If you have 10+ minute highlight videos for each of your HS years, with you scoring 75% of the time in each vid, you know you're pretty amazing. Too bad he's got the baggage.

Or the fact that he does have Heisman potential..... :?

McKnight has many saying he could be Reggie Bush Part Deux. While I won't believe it until I see it, the kid does have Heisman potential.

Here's mine (based on pure talent):

1. Noel Devine
2. Everson Griffin
3. Marvin Austin
4. Joe McKnight
5. Ryan Mallet

If Devine had his character issues in order, I think this would be a no doubter that he's #1. The kid is just amazing.

dating back to 2002 using rivals.com, all the 5* prostyle QB's hasnt been great or havnt seen any playing time(mark sanchez). . 05-06' class is still too early to judge, but very few freshman qb's have immediate success. So dont be shock to see Claussen panning out like all the other highly touted h.s QB's

02' Ben Olson #1 rated
02' Trent Edwards #2
(best/most potential from class is Drew Stanton #6)

03' Kyle Wright #1
03' Chris Leak #2 4*
(best from class is JRussell #6, Quinn #10)

04' Bomar
04' Morelli
04' Henne
(best from class is Brohm #5, Erick Ainge #11)

05' Sanchez
(best from class is colt mccoy #15)

06' Matt Stafford
06' Mitch Mustain

McKnight didn't look that amazing in that video. Great speed, but I don't see Reggie Bush moves. Looks like he can be a better interior runner though.

i agree, i havent seen real reggie moves from mcknight so i dont know if he just isnt displaying them on the film or if he is just compared to reggie because of his versatility. he seems to be real fast though, kind of reminds me of a versitle adrian peterson almost. not real elusive but is able to just out run everyone on the field

as far as mcknight comparing to bush, the reports ive seen have him(mcknight) listed as a 4.4 coming out of highschool which while certainly fast is not atall uncommon for these highschool scouting reports. im pretty sure reggie had a faster time than that coming out of highschool as well as from what ive, better moves

Jericho@SC
02-14-2007, 11:04 AM
McKnight's got great speed, no doubt. Maybe not track star speed, but you definitely have to put him in the Bush/Ginn/DJax/Harvin mold.

Kevman1325
02-14-2007, 12:07 PM
see but thats where i disagree, guys like ted ginn jr DO have track speed. also im sitting here watching mcknights highlight tapes and he doesn't look like hes ridiculously fast. fast yes but its highschool ball and he doesn't look like hes on another level speedwise which is what someone like teddginn or reggie bush did look like in highschool

Jericho@SC
02-14-2007, 12:21 PM
Could it be that the competition he was facing was just faster, hence making him look slower? Yea, I see your point. He might not be elite fast, but I think he'll be fast enough to be the breakaway threat that USC needs and will flourish with.

And if it's not him, maybe it will be Ronald Johnson. Or both.

geaux tigers
02-14-2007, 01:20 PM
just an FYI. Joe McKnight has ran a 10.4 100m which is certainly good for a 4.3x 40.
thats elite speed. Reggie ran 10.3x in the 100m in h.s.

Comparing McKnight to Reggie Bush is just unfair, eventhough people are going to do it. Bush was a rare college runningback that i put up there with Barry Sanders.

No doubt McKnight is a play-maker, and I hope USC uses him more than they used Reggie. I'd like to see McKnight be a everydown back, and not have to split time with anyone.

CJ Gable, E-Moody, Joe McKnight, Marc Tyler, etc. NOT SPLIT TIME WITH NO ONE? He'll at least share carries with Marc Tyler for 3-4 years.

I think JM would be more of a success as his team has quality players better overall than JC's team. It is exciting to see how Charlie Weiss molds and develop JC.

Marvin Austin is incredibly overated, 5 star sure, but he wasn't a top 5 talent in this class.

Does McKnight really have 4.4 speed? He didn't look all that fast in that video. A lot of kids were able to keep up with him in that video. Could be the competition I guess and being spoiled from the Noel Devine highlights.

I've seen Joe McKnight in person. He's not really fast he just has those quick Reggie Bush type cuts. He is the second best highschool football player I've seen.

In terms of talent, I really like USC's haul of

Everson Griffen
Joe McKnight
Marc Tyler
Ronald Johnson

not trying to be a homer here, but I honestly feel that you can make a case for any of these guys to be the #1 prospect in terms of talent. Then you have a guy like Galippo who could be the most polished at his position.

But considering other teams, I also really like Noel Devine. Also, has anyone seen tape on Carlos Dunlap or Torrey Davis? I think those two guys could be All Americans for Florida, a better tandem than Harvey and Moss this year.

Devine is the real deal. Just wish he'd get his act together. Having Deon Sanders being your mentor doesn't help...

It's unfair to compare McKnight to Bush just because he's a fast RB with similar measurables playing at the same college. Bush had moves noone has seen since Barry played. There will never be another Reggie Bush just like there won't be another Barry. Since McKnight doesn't have quite the moves Regginald has, I think he'll develop into an all around back that can take it between the tackles as well. Hopefully he doesn't top out at 200 lbs.

Jericho@SC

Ok, he looks to have legit 4.4 speed. Just not 4.3 speed ala Bush/Ginn/Harvin/DJax.
