I just recently rented 16 blocks and the wicker man.... 16 Blocks gets a thumbs up from me, anyone else see it? As for the Wicker Man, this piece of garbage gets nothing from me because, it doesnt deserve it.
Feel free to dicuss anything movie related in here.

Last 2 films I've watched are Lady in the Water (which was very good, maybe Shamalayn's 2nd best one yet) and Ocean's Eleven finally, which was very good too (ripped off the Sting a little bit, especially Brad Pitt trying to mimic Redford, but if you're gonna rip a movie off that's the one to do).
Last film I saw in theathres was way back in August or September I saw Miami Vice with some friends.....that movie was complete crap and the most boring movie I've ever watched, it sucked big time.
I can't wait to see Spiderman 3 and Reno 911 Miami, and even Ghost Rider - that movie looks fun and Nick Cage usually makes entertaining films, plus I love comic books
Last few movies I've seen
The Illusionist - Very solid, well put together movie. Thumbs up
Little Miss Sunshine - One of the better movies I've seen in awhile. Definite thumbs up
The Wicker Man - Severe waist of time. Thumbs lying under the floorboards
Miami Vice - Quite dissappointed in this, as I expected more. Thumbs down

I watched Saving Private Ryan in Lunch/Science/Business today for the 10+ time and it was once again at least a 9.9/10, that movie is incredible. I also watched Sin City on the weekend for the 3rd or 4th time and it was still about a 7.5/10 for me. Forrest Gump I watched for the 20+ time a few weeks ago and it was still at least 9.9/10. I watched the Terminal or w/e and didn't come away as impressed as I thought I would be. I saw Swordfish on TBS this weekend and with TBS programing it was about an 8/10 standard it would be a 9/10 because instead of yelling Freak at a really intense moment he would have yelled Fu*k and it would have actually made sense, and you would get to see Halle Barry nekkid.

But now I get what he's saying. And I can definately see that. A movie that acts like it's a smart, original, off the wall movie but it's not really.

Last few movies I've seen recently.
Little Miss Sunshine - 8/10
Delightfully off-beat, but slowed down at certain points, and failed to keep me overly involved.
The Illusionist - 6/10
A great cast working with a goddamn awful script. The bones of the story was alright, but the execution made me want to cry.
Children of Men - 10/10
Best sci-fi film I've seen since Blade Runner. If you haven't yet seen this, do so. The story is moving and the filmwork is the most dynamic and amazing thing I have seen in years.
A Scanner Darkly - 9/10
Manages to keep the feel of a Philip Dick novel (something that has been proven to be really hard), is funny and visually very interesting, and manages to make both Winona Ryder and Keanue Reeves tolerable (simply amazing feat).
Kontroll - 9/10
Hungarian flick that has gained popularity in the indie crowd for good reason. Funny and very entertaining script, fantastic film work, great soundtrack.

Despite some "meh" reviews, I heard from friends that The Prestige was actually very involving and fun (if very confusing).
As for The Illusionist, I did a short review right above your post. 'Twas goddamn awful.

Anyone else agree that Talladega Nights sucked?
Uh no. I love Will Farell though, I think he writes brilliant stuff. It may be stupid, but it's funny as hell.
I liked Anchorman better though.
When I picture Jesus i see him wearing that t-shirt with the tuxedo on it, cause it means "I wanna be formal", but "I came to party"

I HATE PULP FICTION!!!
EVeryone raves how amazing it is and how it's such a cult classic blah blah bla blah. Seriously i saw it with a very open mind at the time and thought despite the smart dialogue.. it was an average movie at best. I love how everyone talks about how there's all these hidden meanings in it and when you ask them what they are they either can't tell you or they say "the suitcase contains his soul" and then you're supposed to impressed and say.. wait it is the best movie ever. Seriously i hate that movie.

Gladiator
Fight Club
American History X
Reservior Dogs
Munich
under-rated flicks
Office Space
Kingdom of Heaven - alot of preople didn't like it.. thanks to orlando bloom. I think if you put a better actor there you have an amazing movie.. even with bloom in it's still pretty good.

im kinda the same way with pulp fiction. it was ok i mean i cant say it was a waste of time, but i honestly dont get why evreyone likes it so much.
BTW if you guys havent noticed by now i have seen so nmany movies because im a movie freak.
Movies ive seen lately
Epic Movie 2/10
I want to start out bgy saying the ONLY reason i saw this was because my friend said it was "the funniet thing ever!!"; but my friend is an idiot. Like i tought the movie had no plot and the whole movie was sprinkled in with random sex and fart jokes. DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!
Blood Diamond 10/10
Great Movie. There was perfect blend of violence, crime, drama, and even a little romance. For people who dont know what its about its about a fisherman who village was raided and he was taken prisoner, luckily his family got away. He was sent to work in a diamond mine, where one day he found a pink diamond. then he puts it in hiding. There he meets a man (Dicapprio) who says he will save his family if he gives him the diamond. But like i said great movie.

Yeah, "Epic Movie" was TERRIBLE. Not a single funny part in the whole movie.
Regarding "Pulp Fiction", I've never seen the whole movie, but the parts that I have seen weren't that great.
I do want to see it completely, just to see what's the fuss is all about.

Blood Diamond was very good, but I was never sold on DiCaprio's character, especially the accent. As for Bad Santa, I think that it's a classic in the making, as well as being extremely hilarious.
EDIT- When I was watching Any Given Sunday last night, I noticed they censored out "creaming" as in "I keep the ladies." I found that funny.
EDIT2- I just watched Planet of the Apes (Charleston Heston version), and I'd give it a 10/10. I know someone mentioned before, but I know I say Reservoir Dogs sometime in December, and I'd give it a 10/10 also.

I don't know what you mean by "hasn't changed." I think they showed a little change, and there isn't as much change from mid teens to adulthood as childhood to adulthood.
Padme's no longer queen because I believe her term expired and she wanted to be senator. That happened in Episode 2 (or between 1 and 2).

For The Prestige, I'll agree more with ny on this one but I can't say it was the best movie I've ever seen(although it seems like he has changed that). I too can be said to be a sucker for twists but you can't deny that it was VERY well written and thought out. I mean watching it a second time revealed so many details which should seem odd to the viewer in the first time watching but never get necessarily noticed. And such details pointed to the ending. I guess I liked the mysterious 19th century setting also. Basically I could go on and on about what I liked...

I posed this question before and it went unanswered. I know someone had to have seen it, Running Scared...good? I bought it, sight unseen from one of those buy 6 dvds for a penny type things. Should be arriving pretty soon, actually.

I don't know, I really didn't like the ending. The twist was kind of meh and seemed pretty weak to me. I'm a total sucker for twist endings though (The Usual Suspects is one of my favorite movies), and this one just didn't get me as much. Not sure why.

Clarity for my take on The Prestige: saying it "may be the best movie I've ever seen" came ******s after I finished watching it, so it was definitely a rash statement. After thinking and digesting it, I'd give it a 9/10, and definitely not the best I've ever seen.
I still loved the ending though. It would've been a little better if they'd have left out the ***SPOILER*** scene where they show Border talking to someone in the shadows, telling him to make sure that Sarah loves him after he got in a fight with her. That would make the ending exponentially better.

Eh, I'm a huge Reno 911 fan. I thought the movie would go above and beyond the show. It let me down a bit. I didn't think it was any funnier than watching three regular episodes in a row. I thought they would go above and beyond and they didn't, for me at least.

The story was better the characters were better, although it had a few holes in the characters and acting which kinda sucked as you would think Norton would be superb. It needs some cleaning up but it was a lot more enjoyable than The Prestige.

I thought The Prestige was superior although both films were great. I'm a huge fan of Edward Norton but I wasn't very impressed by the ending because it seemed too unbelievable to me. Slater was great in The Prestige and the script was a lot better in my opinion.

I'm not a Will Ferrell fan at all. He plays the same character in every movie and Talladega Nights and Anchorman are carbon copies of each other (and it looks like Blades of Glory will be the same).
Stranger Than Fiction was alright but it lacked depth. It was kind of a weird mashup between comedy, drama, and romance that didn't do anything very well.

Now, keep in mind I haven't seen The Prestige, but I thought The Illusionist was pretty goddamn awful. It was way too predictable, the ending sucked, and the script read like it was written by a 13 year old of moderate intelligence who just got done reading a lot of Sherlock Holmes.
I've heard good things about The Prestige, so I've no doubt it was better.

I think Ferrell is about as subtlely talented a comic actor as they come. I also think that Stranger than Fiction had plenty of depth and serves as a funnier than normal character study. I loved the film.

I was really suprised at how crappy I found that movie. The cast was at the very least above average, but jesus it hurt me to watch it. There was absolutely no subtlety to how it was made or written. It seemed absolutely phoned in from the moment they landed Giamatti and Norton.

I can't take Giamatti seriously after Lady in the Water but Norton is stellar and acted very well in The Illusionist. However, the plot was weak and the ending didn't make sense.

Oh, the ending made sense, but you could see it from a mile away. And making Giamatti realize it all in moment while standing in the middle of a freaking train station is probably what sent me over the edge. He didn't even deduce anything, he just all of a sudden understood it. Lame.

That was my whole beef with the movie. The twist may have been obvious but it at least could have been plausible. Nothing in the movie was even in the realm of possibility. The Prestige was outlandish (obviously a machine like that is impossible) however it was believable and tied in with the plot.

What is with everybody loving Stranger Than Fiction so much? I thought it was average at best. None of the acting was anything better than average and the plot was predictable and played out. Comedically it made me chuckle a few times and there was actually some "higher brow" humour in it (which is rare for Ferrell) but it can't really be described as a hilarious movie.

I think they're both better than Requiem, but they are very different. Aronofsky is easily my favorite film maker, and while Fountain and Pi have far less concrete stories than Requiem (and play around with the concept of reality a lot more), they are fantastic movies.
