I'm really interested to see which Juniors you have coming out this year. As a Giants fan, I'm really wondering which corners come out because that is obvious a big need for us... Again.

Safety is a bigger need IMO. Madison has a year or two left. Butler and Michael Johnson are horrible.

McFadden to Atlanta if available. Actually anyone but Brohm to Atlanta. Too predictable and odds are it won't happen anyway.

I have made note of all of your pleas for and against players and made sure to do the exact opposite of what you wanted!

All kidding aside in case you are interested I finally have the first round mapped out (it took me about 4-5 hours to get it right) and am beginning to write all new analysis for each and every pick. The goal is still to have it love bright and early Friday morning.

It be hella cool if you spiced things up and didnt give us Brohm. That would be crazy. Looking at mock drafts have been so boring because of that.

There is a pretty good RB from Arkansas that would look good in Silver and Black.

Agree with that...

So are you using power rankings again, or is this your own order based off records and projections?

I am using the actual order, as of Week 10.

At last, there is some drama around a Pats pick.

I guess. It seems like his stock is always corresponding to how well we do too. At the beginning of the year, Falcons looked hopeless and were locked for the number 1 pick. Brohm was a Heisman potential and a top5 pick. As the season goes on, Falcons seem to get their way out of the number 1 pick, and Brohm's stock drops as well. Maybe he is destined to play in Atlanta.

I know it makes sense, but it gets so boring to see.

No, but it's a deep QB draft and Petrino can make most QBs look good. I mean even Joey Harrington has a passer rating over 80.

a lot of that can be contributed to holes in other areas besides QB.

I would enjoy seeing something like

"Jeremy Ito is so amazing it's beyond words. Every team is blinded by his greatness, so they let him fall to pick 31 to please scottyboy. His arm is accurate and a chisled cannon. His leg is matched by no other, in terms of strength, accuraracy, and punting ability. An obvious pick for the Giants as their current kicker is about as usefull as a poopy flavored lollipop"

And it WON'T happen because you don't take the 20th best player in the draft #6 overall.

weirder things have happend you know. there's this thing called team need, and sometimes, just sometimes, it factors into a teams drafting strategy

The Cardinals took Levi Brown at #5 overall last year. It is where need outweighs value and their is definitely a need.

But Brown was a top 10/12 player. I'm pretty sure if the Cardianls didn't take him then Atlanta would.

I had the impression he was a borderline top 20 overall player. He may have been #2 at his position, but it was a weak o-line class. I have always been a need over value guy even if the guy has high value, so that is my opinion.

they aren't but they can be plugs why they develop a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

I go for McFadden if I'm the Falcons.

You don't think rave reviews from your head coach and him pounding his hand on the table in favor of his guy wouldn't drive his grade up?

Now maybe Petrino doesn't even like Brohm but assuming he does I don't see the Falcons passing on him.

D-Rod
11-16-2007, 03:21 AM
It's a good point. Unless Leftwich shrugs off the injury bug and becomes a quality long-time starter (which is not impossible, but something of a pipe-dream) Petrino's initial five years as a falcon are going to be tied to the performance of whichever QB he drafts.

Assuming he does actually rate Brohm - and why would he not? - then surely he'd want to gamble his future on a guy he knows and trusts, rather than someone he's watched on film and in workouts.

It is boring, but it does make a lot of sense.

Also, our three key needs, way ahead of any other minor need, are OT, QB and RB. If Long and McFadden are gone, then it's really just a question of which QB Petrino prefers. Brohm may be the boring pick, but it makes a tremendous amount of sense.

That said, wasn't Leinart to Tennessee the obvious pick for a very long time because of Chow?

Brohm has so many concerns its ridiculous. Arm strength might not be there. The competition he has played against the past 3 years. His offensive system makes him look better than what he is. His durability.

I am sorry, but I think taking the best QB in the draft is the way to go. Whether it is Woodson, Ryan, or Brohm I say you take the most highly rated player by the scouts.

Also, it isn't like Woodson or Ryan can't learn a playbook. Brohm isn't just going to play right away for the Falcons. You don't throw a rookie into the NFL fire like that.

Good point about Leinart and Tennessee. Chow and Fisher both wanted him but Floyd Reese shut them down exactly like McKay will shut Petrino down. Is Amobi Okoye or Michael Bush Falcons? No. Was Petrino probably lobbying for those guys. I imagine he said something positive about them.
