Whatd you guys think of these guys? Whos a better pro prospect? I don't know much about this years S class except that beyond phillips its very weak. Mention any other safeties that could become top 5 prospects at safety.

I guess behind Phillips you could consider Jonathan Hefney from Tennessee.

Steltz is big, physical and dependable. He's around the ball alot. He puts himself in position to make plays. He's not the fastest guy, and sometimes he gets there just a step late, but he's a very good safety prospect IMO.

Barrett was demoted much of the year for inconsistent play and being a little nicked up too I believe. They're both big, strong safeties. Barrett probably has better straight-line speed, Steltz is the more instinctive defender. I think Steltz is the better prospect.

I like Jamar Adams and Chris Horton a lot more than either of them.

Neither are particularly good.

give me your top 5 safties so ive got an idea of who to look out for.

Thomas DeCloud deserves some mention...I think there is a chance that Kevin Ellison/Derek Pegues committ to this draft as juniors. They could be late first rounders in a weak safety class...it might take us by surprise but it makes sense for these guys financially if they project well.

steltz is like a mid 4.5 guy, how is that not more than adequate speed for a safety, particularly one who is likely a strong safety at the next level?

Anybody like Joe Fields?

Steltz seems like a guy who wont blow anything up at the combine, but he could become a quality NFL contributor, he has good hands and can read a qb's eyes. he really needs to work on his run support skills, he takes alot of poor angles.

Definitly, I have him as a top 5 safety at the moment and I think he will open alot of eyes at the combine. He should test very well and has had a very good season for the Orangemen.
