I'm currently looking for a new cell phone (I have tmobile) and was wondering what type of cell phone everyone else has...

and do you like it?

I am currently using a Motorola RAZR but I switch back and forth between that and a Blackberry 7100t...both are turning into pieces of crap...

i've never had the nicest cell phones...all i want is something that's kinda cool looking that works well.
right now, i have a kyocera K323. it's great. i've found that kyoceras hold their charge for a really long time.
i hate motorola and i will never own another one of their phones.

I have a Samsung A437

http://www.wireless.att.com/global/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/samsung_a437_red_l.gif

I like it, because it doesn't have an antenna, but still gets great service. Also, it's red. My favorite color. Has a record feature. So you don't have to buy ringtones, you can just record songs. I have about 30 ringtones, only bought one, before I found out about the record feature. It doesn't lose it's charge easily either.

Very nice, had one of those as well. Recently upgraded to an LG camera phone due to someone in the family buying a Chocolate and getting that one for free. I have yet to use the camera feature. It's a little ridiculous. But it's refreshing to see a different pone. That LG you have is probably the most boring pone in history.

Same with me. I am in the States right now, and I still have my Rogers Canadian phone, but it is Pay as you go, and I only keep it for text's or emergenices, but still a $20 card gets me only about 5 minutes of talk.

I actually dont mind not having a cell phone. In fact I like it.

I have the original razr. I'm a big fan of it. Everyone says how delicate it is but I think it's indestructible. I've cracked the front LCD screen multiple times, dropped and nicked it all up. It works the same today as when I got it almost 2 years ago. I've dropped it in a puddle getting out of my car so it was fully engulfed in water [still on] and is still going.

You reliaze 2 of those phones are verizon and 1 is Sprint. You would have to switch companies depending on who you have currently. Anyways I'd say get an original Env. Env 2 looks hideous...

That is the phone I wanted, but T-mobile didnt have them in stock. I liked it more then the Blackberry, but I ended up getting the Blackberry and was too lazy to switch it.

I use the non-phone features a lot, email, maps, weather, stocks, looking things up, etc. And those drain the battery like crazy. If I just used it as a phone it's fine, but I don't and it's annoying.

Anybody hear anything about the LG VU? I have my upgrade to use with ATT and don't know if I'm going with that or the iPhone.

Technically, you can get both. The iPhone doesn't come with discounted pricing; meaning that you won't use your upgrade for buying the iPhone.

You could buy the new iPhone that comes out July 11th that is on the new 3G network for $199 for the 8GB or $299 for the 16GB and still have your upgrade available as your purchased a phone at for retail and get the LG VU with discounted pricing [updating your current contract 2 yrs from the time you get the new phone with 2 year discounted pricing]. The only negative is the sim cards. I believe you have a special sim through Apple if I'm not mistaken [Apple takes care of this so I'm not to familiar with this, p.s. I work for at&t]. So if it requires a different sim card you'll be out of luck with this sceam.

To above posters, I would recommend not buying Samsung. They are our most popular "refurbished" model and a phone that is easily criticized and returned often. I direct Samsung users to warranty by the dozens daily and I know of multiple others who do the same. I would strongly recommend staying clear of Samsung.

How does the contract suck? 2 years for it [which all at&t contracts are, with NO exceptions, trust me, No exceptions] and you will still have your upgrade if anything goes wrong with your iPhone [lost/stolen/dropped in toilet <---happens more than you would think] you will still have your upgrade and will be able to extend another 2 yrs [from that date you do it, not the TOTAL contract, so it "voids" your first one and makes the new 2 yr effective as soon as you get the discounted pricing on the phone and agree to T's & C's].

Really the only negative about iPhones is that hell of a program called iTunes which is the only reason I don't have one and possibly the fact Asurion [at&t's insurance partner] won't touch the iPhone with a stick and offers no protection [so you have to go through home owners or renters insurance for it].

So they are upgrading the iPhones and lowering the price?

Pretty much, more companies are coming out with touch screen and visual voicemail. It's not the same as iPhone's touchscreen. 3G iPhones are better than the original iPhone at a lower cost.

There are no discounts on it either; Thus you have to pay full retail for it meaning you get to use your upgrade at a later date.

most plans you'll pay more for a blackberry for data usage than a regular phone. it's how the phone companies are making their money.

btw. when they say 'unlimited' make sure you find out if it is, i know verizon has caps on data-usage. so. streaming video to your phone from your boxes don't work.

Yeah, some companies cap it. at&t currently doesn't, the data connect cards for example are 5GB cards with $0.00/kb overage. It's more of a, 5GB is your limit please use under it, if you don't you won't get overage but still, use under it.

You'll pay more for any PDA plan then what you would a "regular" phone to access the internet. It's really since you'll access the internet a lot more on a Curve than a Razr thus they charge more to make a little more as the PDA will cost the carrier a little more.

So they are upgrading the iPhones and lowering the price?

No, they are making you pay less up front, but increasing what you pay overall. They have increased the data plan price to $30, which is standard for all 3g phones. However they no longer are going to include the 200 sms messages with that price so for at least 200 messages you are paying 5 more dollars. At that point you are paying $15 more dollars a month than the old plan. So in the end you will be paying more with the new phone then if you did with the older one.

old iphone ($400) + old data plan ($20) = $880
New Iphone ($200) + new data plan and 200 messages ($35) = $1040

That isn't including what voice plan you are getting. Basically you can look to spend from at least $40 more bucks with the new phone.

Older iphones will be harder to find now and pretty expensive because they were being unlocked and now att is making you do it in store.

I never understood the need to have an "awesome" cell phone. I feel as long as it doesn't weight 6 lbs and gets good reception then that's all I need. Every cell phone I've ever had was free with my contract.

I just had a meeting today, and learned that the upgrade doesn't work the same for the iPhone anymore. Disregard everything stated about still having your upgrade. Even though you don't get any discounts off the 3G iPhone [which is why you originally were able to get another phone with your 2G iPhone as you paid full retail for it] they are changing it to a standard upgrade policy which will count as your upgrade for buying the new 3G iPhone.

I was reading your posts above, and isn't the $199 price for the iPhone 3G only that price if you sign the contract as well?

I'm pretty sure, cause when i bought my Treo they wanted to give me the retail price at the store.. which is of 400 dollars. So my best guess would be that that price they're advertising is only for those who sign contracts.

Well Thursday I bought the LG VU. Hated it! The internet was too hard to use having to touch the screen to hit links. Not cool at all. Then the damn thing died on me last night when I was trying to get a chicks number last night, not cool either. I had to search for a fricking pen to write the number on my hand. Service wasn't so great with it either so that was another negative. So I brought it back today and got a Palm Centro. I like it better so far. Came with a stylus so thats a plus. So far the service is better as well. I like the Centro alot better than the VU already.

You can only get the iPhone with a 2 year contract silly.

The phone is also full retail. No discounts what-so-ever, but you HAVE to have the 2 year contract with it, no way around it.

2G iPhone is more [twice as more] and is worse but is no commitment pricing meaning you can still use your upgrade and get another phone if needed.

The 3G iPhone is cheaper than the original, better speeds with speeds almost as fast as WiFi on the 3G network [the fastest network in Amercia - DoCoMo in japan is using a 4G network in 2 cities as a trial currently] but the pricing -even though it's full retail, it counts as your upgrade and you have to be eligible for upgrade to upgrade to it.

Now you get discounts for phones as you are signing up for 2 years which allows the carrier to recoup the money lost on discounting the phone with a profit as well. It's not advertised but you can technically, go to a carrier [att specifically does this, can't speak for other carriers] buy any phone [except the iPhone] at full retail and not have a contract. It'll be a postpaid account on a month to month basis, basically meaning, it's like having service with a contract, but no contract and the ability to leave whenever you'd like.

I get a lot of complaints about LG and Samsung models. I would recommend not using those brands. Samsung is the most popular refurb phone through att. Never get complaints on Palm. I like the Centro. White > black in my preference though.
