I like Snow, Hate the Cold.

When i was in HS, We needed like 1 1/2 foot of snow to get canceled or if the Roads were just icy and dangerous to drive on.

Once in September we had a Hurricane Day because supposedly, where were going to get like 70mph winds and rain but it was like 20-30mph and a free day off.

Ya that got a lot of attention up here. It was big news also when Hilary Clinton went there to help out.

Right now, I am home in Mississauga and we are getting belted with snow, and later on they are calling for freezing rain. Gonna be fun. Too bad the Bills weren't home this weekend.

When i was in High School we rarely got snow days.

I grew up in New York and we got plenty of snow days. Hell, one day where there wasnt even snow we got a snow day! They anticipated a lot of snow coming later on in the day which i dont think ever came.

When i moved to Canada i think i may have got about 1-2 snow days in 5 years of middle and high school, even in very bad conditions. It definitely pissed me off because there were plenty of days that would qualify as a snow day in new york.

as for the blanket conversation, best thing ever is having a little heater in my room during the day to keep it around 70 then turning it off late afternoon/early night and letting it get down to like 55 for when i go to bed. Flannel sheets and like 3 blankets and it is instantly the most comfortable feeling ever.

So I lived my first 18 years in New York and the last 3 years in Phoenix, so I have a good perspective on the two kind of climates. With that said...

Stay where it is cold. I would much rather be freezing my ass off than sweating by just stepping outside in 110+ weather for 3 months. At least with the winter, you can wear extra clothes or sleep close to a girl, but in the summer I had to strip down to my underwear after work every day just so I didn't have to pay $200 a month to heat up a freaking apartment.

Thats the best part.

I dont know if you work or go to school or what your situation is. But I work, and snow is good if your work gives you off for it. But if it snows and you still have to get to work its a pain. Traffic is a mess and its bumper to bumper anywhere you go because people drive 20 mph on the highway.

Didn't have a snow day today, but our school got today off because someone graffitied all over the buses. Pretty hilarious that they cancel school for that.

^It's the exact same with my school.

For some reason, we follow another district. When that district gets off, we get off. If they don't get off, then we dont.

Also, it can be absolutely brutal here, but we'll still have to go to school.

i kinda like winter.. only if theres snow. if its just cold then it sucks. me n my friend hide out n the woods n throw snowballs at cars at night

i also love the snow days. we only get about 2 a year before we have to make them up in june. i would prefer that cuz we dont do anything on the makeup days. our district is trying to cut back to 1 i believe.

they hardly ever call off school here tho and they dont plow the parking lot at the school, and theres always 3-5 buses late.

Canada doesn't have compulsory attendance (or whatever the technical term is)?

You can drop out once you're 16. Even so, what are they going to do if you skip class? Give you a detention?

Well, I was thinking broader than that when you said that you didn't have to go to class. Like, not going to school at all, which draws some sort of penalty I would think. I really don't know, though.

bearsfan_51
12-06-2007, 06:15 PM
The penalty is on the parents if their child is under a certain age and doesn't go to school. It's rather stiff as I recall.

Im not going to college tommorow. Its going to be too damn cold and too damn slippery due to the ice. Im only going for 1 hour long class, where all were going to do is review for the final next week. Thing is he already did a partial review on tuesday so im pretty good except for maybe a couple of minor details.

Either way, in this weather, its not worth it.

I wish I was experiencing some semblance of winter down here. Louisiana is the only state setting record high's while every other place is having ice storms.

It sucks living in the crotch of the nation.

It got down to -18C (2F) last night but still they haven't started flooding the outdoor hockey rink near my house. City of Ottawa better get it's act together and start them rinks.

Yeah I know what you means. Kind of sucks when you have to drive for 15-20 minutes when there is a rink at 3 minutes of your house :P I've been playing hockey for like 1 week and the ice quality is pretty good. It's been pretty cold down there so I love this time of the year :D
