Yeah I don't have a problem with players acting cocky. They didn't look like they were having much of a good time though. Talib looked like he wanted to punch Herbstreit in the face or something. But hey, interviews aren't easy, so I can't judge them based off that small snippet.

I remember a few years ago the feel good award went to some guy they called The Sarge. He played for South Carolina. The dude was like a 40 year old wide receiver.

What are you talking about? If a college kid is 18 and his dad is 40 that means the father had him when he was 22? You dont know anyone who had kids when they were 22?

Wow. Maybe it's where I come from but people don't have kids until they are like in their mid to late 20s. My mom was the youngest mom out of all of my friends' parents and she was 24 when she had me.

I think most people I know with kids had their first one when they right around the age of 22 or younger.

Did they go to college? Not to sound rude but I find most college graduates tend to wait a bit to establish a career.

No my friends who had kids with they were 22 or younger were obviously mistakes. So they had to get jobs. My other friends who are currently in college dont have kids. But older people in general too. Like my mom had her first kid before the age of 22, and most people my age I can think of are the same way.

The Groza should come with a asterisk. At least the people at Walter Camp got it right.

John Sullivan had a better year than any other kicker in the country, and for some reason the Groza people didn't even have him as a semi-finalist. They didn't even include him when contacted about their obvious overlooking. They just gave some bs vague excuse.

Guck Froza.

That said, of the 3 Weber should have won. 2nd best year for a kicker.

Ito didn't deserve to be in the same company of the 3 kickers that we invited, but im guessing the Walker will announced closer to 930 because thats when this show is over.

Should have been John Sullivan of New Mexico. He was named to the Walter Camp All-America team.

why? just because he had more FGs? he was 2nd in FGM and had 4 more than Weber...Weber also had 6 less attempts and made 96% of his kicks (22-23) vs. 90% (26-29)...I'm not saying he doesn't deserve consideration, but it's not as hands down as you make it seem, and in fact, I would take Weber's stats over Sullivan's

Led the country in FG's per game and kicked at a 90% rate. Take out the first game of the season (his first game at the collegiate level) and he's 24 of 25. 9-9 on FG's of 40-49 yards. Won several games with his kicks.

Also kicking with a torn ACL suffered in spring practice.

oh ok, thanks...after hearing all that I might have to agree with you...what year is he? Cuz if he is a Senior then he got seriously shafted...

what channel is this on/if its on tv?

Yeah, he's a senior. He's a four year walk-on that played behind another good kicker we had in Kenny Byrd. Finally got a scholarship before this season.

This was his first opportunity, and he ran with it.

Chris Long was completely snubbed, absolute b.s, clearly the best defensive player in all the nation this year, single handedly took his team to elite status in the ACC and not to be even dominated for so many awards, it's rediculous. Bleh who cares awards are just awards.

I'm pretty sure I got all of the awards given out tonight, I just don't have stats etc. So if anyone finds it useful...

Thomas Weber is a RS Freshman so his first game he didn't miss any field goals. Any it is not ASU's fault that they were able to reach the endzone more. I'm sure if ASU was stopped so much in field goal range, Weber would be able to make 4 more. I'm sorry, but the stats are so close, you have to give it to the kicker who has made a higher percentage. The bottom line is Weber made 95% of his FGs and every PAT. That is sick.

junior2430
12-07-2007, 02:45 AM
Weber is a good kicker, no doubt about it. Sullivan had a better year. Most of the coaches and SID's around the country feel Sullivan had a better year as well.

Not discounting Weber at all. But for some odd reason the Groza people didn't feel should be considered even a sem-finalist. If Sullivan had been a finalist and lost to Weber, that would be something else entirely. But to not even be a finalist is absurd.

That fact Kevin Smith wasn't even a finalist for the Doak Walker Award proves what a joke these trophies have become.

Yea that was a little unbelievable, I understand some of these schools dont play SEC teams week in and out, but I hate when certain awards totally discredit a players season or stats due to who he was playing...it holds some weight but not enough to where ANY D-1 rb with over 2,400 rushing yds doesnt get nominated, I didnt expect him to win anything over McFadden but I mean come on....

Dorsey won quite a bit of awards and I wasnt sure if it was more from performance or his name, becausue him winning the Outland trophy I think it was over Jake Long was a little wierd to me, didnt Dorsey miss like 4 or 5 games this year? And if im not mistaken Jake Long played all year and only gave up a sack in the OSU game...

And Michael Crabtree did win the Biletnikoff I was probably the most pleased with that then anything all night, for a guy that was a qb in high school here in dallas he really has evolved into a dynamic wr, texas tech or not he put up numbers this year that rival randy moss' from Marshall

It's the USC effect. The media feels obligated to give at least one postseason award to a USC Trojan and he was the only deserving one
