View Full Version : Students Dress as VT Victims

So very classless I cannot find the words to describe this.
It started with a picture on Facebook and has now created a firestorm of outrage.
Two Penn State students, dressed as Virginia Tech shooting victims, at a Halloween party have enraged people from the Virginia Tech community, as well as the entire country.
10 On Your Side has seen all of the controversial pictures. They are of two Penn State students and are extremely graphic. Both are wearing Virginia Tech t-shirts and elaborate make-up. Both have bullet holes in their bodies.
Our decision not to show you the pictures is a result of our desire to be sensitive to a community that is still grieving. We also want to show respect to the shooting victims, their families, and their friends. Showing these pictures would serve no purpose.
We talked with one of the students who wore the costume. He said the outfits were worn to a small party and meant to be private.
"It's not that it was funny, it's that we are notorious and infamous in the state college, so we have to do things that push the envelope just for shock value," he said.

that is ******* terrible
they are classless people
They know what they're doing, they are causing a stir just for the attention, and it worked. Still a bunch of insensitive douches, who deserve a beating from a couple thousand VT students. Worst of all is the self-righteous BS they are spitting as justification for them wearing the costumes:
The thing is, everybody's making a big stink about Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech was 32 deaths out of the 26 thousand that happen in America everyday. That's the problem with college students. They all live in an ivory tower of privilege. They don't understand, when it all boils down to it, it's someone wearing a costume.
He just doesn't get it

Three words... Who ******* cares?
Isn't there anything else more news worthy? I really don't care if there are a couple inconsiderate college students in Pennsylvania.

He sounds like the VT shooter, who claimed that they deserved to die because of their hedonist lifestyles.
Ah, what the lust for fame turns people to...

Thank you. VaTech students can be offended by this, but for it to make national news? It was ******* halloween. People dress as suicide bombers, hitler, molesting priests, Steve Irwin etc. Was it tasteless? Ya, but newsworthy, no way in hell. Do they deserve a beating? Hell no.
Hell, even if I went to VaTech I wouldn't be offended by it. But everyone here knows my stance on these types of things. Had Sean Taylor been shot on Oct 20th, I can promise you someone would have went as him. Hell, I have seen people go as amputee soldiers, minefield victims, Saddam Hussein, THE VATECH SHOOTER, name a costume that might offend someone, I am pretty sure I have seen it. I saw a guy walking down the street with a I *plane* NY shirt in Nov 01. Was I offended, no. I just thought he was an idiot, just like these people.
None of those are newsworthy, and this isn't news worthy. The fact that this makes national news is why we know so little about the rest of the world.
Is it wrong that I laughed?
No, no it isn't. I didn't find it funny, but that is only because there really was no joke involved. I laugh that this actually made news, but thats it.

I don't think you get what he was saying. That had nothing to do with them being shot. It was only talking about the college students who are making a big deal out of them dressing up as VaTech when they don't give a damn about them being just a normal shooting victim. He was only saying that the VaTech victims are no more important than the tens of thousands of other murder victims in our country.
I seriously doubt they thought they would be making news by dressing up as them. They probably only thought they would get some attention at the party they were at. I know for a fact they weren't the only ones who dressed up like that.

i love too soon parties. "ohhhhh too soon man"
this story is just like when my school got busted for having a south-of-the-border party (ie people dressed as gardeners, pregnant teens, any mexican stereotype.) and it ended up on CNN. Is it offensive? sure, but do people nationally really care?

Or like Tarleton State last year. They had a party where everyone dressed up as the black stereotype, and they only served malt liquor, fried chicken, and kool aid.
People like to pretend to give a damn. They act all outraged when people bring it up, they might be slightly offended, but really, unless you were a VaTech student, or knew someone who was, this is nothing to get bent out of shape about.

That's not up to you how people feel about the situation. That's your opinion. If someone is offended by this situation, they have every right in the world to do so.

You think these guys posting how they should systematically get their ass kicked actually think they should get their ass kicked by the whole of VaTech? I'm not telling people how they should feel. I am telling other people that the people who claim to be completely outraged are usually not as upset as they claim.
Are they offended? Of course, are they offended to the point where it actively affects their lives? Of course not. But just because they aren't as offended as they claim to be doesn't mean they aren't offended. But personally, I find getting offended by stuff to be a waste of time. I would rather laugh and forget it. I think life is too short to be offended by stuff.
I couldn't care less if you get offended by things that in no way affect you. Other than I feel extremely sorry for someone who lets any little thing affect their life. I may be an asshole, but I will be a happy asshole; because unless it directly affects me or one of my love ones, I give it no thought other than one of these three:
I'm sorry that happened.
Wow, what ******* idiots.
So, who gives a ****.

Yeah, you're probably right about me getting him wrong.
But he's still wrong. You shouldn't dress up like any murder victim, much less from a well-known tragedy like the Virginia Tech shootings.
