OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A young QB that actually looked like he knew what the hell was going on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!
I say start him next week, but Billick won't do it I bet you that. How can you not want him to start? McNair needs to retire, Boller can be a Abercomie model, and Troy Smith should be the future of the Ravens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He showed the ability to get the ball deep and in a 5 foot radius of the player, he can move, and he has nice winning expierence in college.
GO TROY SMITH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The funny thing on the radio at half time, Stan White asked Billick if he would put in Smith, and Billick said it was silly, well look at what is going on now!!!

Yes Troy Smith looked good, but look at who he was playing against. It was all of the 3rd stringers for the Colts. I'd love to see what he can do against a starting defense in the NFL. He certainly showed signs of hope, but I'm not ready to call him our savior just yet. He still has a long way to go.
I will say though that Smith has this presence about him. He just has a feel for the pressure, and moves around to create something. For example: he scrambled a few times and kept his head up scanning the field. I have very rarely seen that from Boller in his 5 years in the NFL.

yes I think I got a little to excited starting the thread. But we gotta get him more playing time, it will help us decide whether to go QB or CB round 1.

We need to let him start the rest of the season, so we won't have to pick a QB in Round 1 and pick up Malcom Jenkins who will be a stud

I think the Ravens will draft a QB in round 1 regardless of what Smith does. Smith is still a project and may never pan out. If a possible franchise QB is there at our pick, you have to take him IMO. Even if Smith pans out down the road, you can never have enough depth at the QB position.

i want to see Smith in there but with Billick i just dont see it happening unless we are loosing by alot...so it actually may happen
But i would much rather us go CB in the first with Jenkins, for one the kid is a stud and potential lockdown corner, he has no weaknesses. Plus im not enamoured on any of the QB prospects and none blow me away in one way or another to use our potential top 8 pick on one of them. Plus our defense is absolutely terrible when we have had either Rolle or McAlister out and Rolle doesnt look like he will be back this year and Smith and Boller are much more serviceable then Pittman who has shown nothing, Corey ivy, Derick martin or ronnie prude starting. Jenkins is also better value and honestly i dont feel that bad if we had Boller, Smith or possibly Mcnair going into next season..and the 2nd round prospects at CB IMO are thin and the only guy id want us to get there is Justin King as he most likely will drop due to technique issues even though he has a ton of skill but that is not very likely as i would expect a team to fall in love with his potential and take a gamble. If we really want a QB there is Joe Flacco and Erik Ainge in the second who both IMO have better physical skill then the top 3 but arent as consistent. And possibly we could even trade back in the 2nd as still get one of the two. Just my opinion and i would much rather us get Jenkins in the first then any of the top 3 QBs

Smith might not ever be a starter and odds are against him being a starter, but Boller has used up his chances in Bmore and we need to see how much we have in Troy Smith as it could greatly affect our draft plans. We don't want a Brady Quinn/Derek Anderson type situation especially since we will have a top 10 pick. If we are confident in what we have in Smith and maybe a FA acquisition or one more year with Boller I'd much rather get Malcolm Jenkins or a shot at a guy like Chris Long or Jake Long dropping to us.

yea, the QB prospects arent as good as they were in the past recent years. We have nothing to lose, Boller blows and we need to see what else we got.

You have to be happy with what Troy Smith did, but let's not get too carried away. I'd love to see the guy succeed as much as anyone, but we just saw a glimpse and it was in a game that was just out of hand. But this should earn him some playing time down the stretch, and we'll get to see what we have in him.

yea when I originally made this post I got a bit ahead of myself, it showed that after Rolle and Cmac our CB shouldnt be starters, I say we go stud CB round 1 and give Smith playing time, or take our chances and get a stud QB prospect next year.

Hey no worries believe me I have the tendency to get carried away a bit after games or draft picks, stuff like that. I went crazy over that Yamon Figurs pick last year. I thought it was terrible and a few days later I looked at the pick and I loved it.
As for the draft, I would love to get a guy like Chris Long or Malcolm Jenkins in round 1. Both are studs and will make instant impacts. Then in round 2 maybe look at a quarterback like Joe Flacco, a guy I'm really high on right now. I really like Troy believe me, but unless he really looks like a stud in these last 3 games I don't think he will prevent us from taking a quarterback in the 2008 draft.

you think Smith will eventually go against starting D, to see how he really preforms. Is there any chance of the Ravens taking McNabb, though the last Qb, they picked up that was having a down career, put out 1 good season for them.

I hope not for McNabb I say rebuild 100%.
This team will not and really cannot totaly rebuild. Too many vets who's salaries are too high. And given the history of the AFC North over the past few seasons, I'm not so sure we should rebuild. In the last 5 years, no team in the AFC North has repeated as division champs, and it will be the same way this year.

2003: Ravens
2004: Steelers
2005: Bengals

We will restock/reload, try to get some impact players through the draft, and try to come out and win it next year.

You have to see what you have in the guy. The guy was a fifth round pick. It's not like he was a first rounder like Kyle. If don't know how we can 'ruin' him, it's not like we have our future invested in this guy. You have to give him some chance to play so we can evaluate potential needs this offseaosn.

Wrong, this is Boller's time for the rest of the season so as to build towards next year. Smith should only see the field in the event of an injury or a blowout and nothing more. Although a gadget play would be a nice improvement......

People have been saying Troy Smith is to short, and isn't a starting material.
Prove it or let him prove you wrong. It's really as simple as that.
Also Kyle better not mess up for his own self esteem, otherwise He is going to get the Bledsoe treatment by the fans. Kinda feel sorry for him but thats the way the business is.

there is no way in hell i want Troy playing in the miami game. i really want to see him play badly, but i think boller is more competent at this point and i for one dont want to lose to miami. the last two game im all for Troy getting some noticeable play time but for miami let boller play and pray to god we dont lose.

I love how the people who want Boller to start because he gives us the best chance to win games also want us to lose to Miami..because that TOTALLY makes sense.
Also, I'm not exactly sure how our O-line is "pathetic" as they've actually improved their play in the last few games. Troy also has the ability to roll outside of the pocket if need be. If we had a statue pocket passer, then that'd make sense, but even though Boller has improved, our season is over. He needs to leave here, and I think the NE game will give him some off-season looks as a starter. I just think that Smith and any other QB that comes here needs BETTER coaching, because we all know that QB coaching is more the issue than the QBs themselves.
Oh and I think it doesn't really matter who plays at QB against Miami..TRENT EFFIN EDWARDS THREW FOR 3 TDS AGAINST THEM!!!!

This is the perfect situation for a rookie QB to get some games in. There is no pressure or expectations for Smith. Just let the guy go out there and see what he has. There's nothing left for Boller to prove. We already know that he's a bum, why not give Smith a shot?

In a season where there isn't such a big spread between the bottom few teams, I don't honestly think it matters, we're gonna get a top 10 pick no matter what, and I don't see any QB we want going any higher than top 10. It's just gonna be one of those odd QB controversy situations, because Smith will most likely not start an NFL game, Boller is gonna be on the roster since it looks like Billick will be back next year, and if we draft a QB, that's gonna be 3 QBs fighting for a spot and unless Boller comes out on top of the pack, it's gonna be one of those situations that as a fan, you hate to see.

Yeah forreal. Season is over, if he wins these two and does well then heck that solves a hell lot of our offseason issues. If he sucks ass and we lose the last two than we are in perfect top 5 position to have our choice of Woodson or Ryan. Nothing bad can happen with playing him the last two.

HAHAHA We have as bout as much chance of winning our last 2 games as the Phins have against the Pats next week, no matter who the starting QB is. But whatever start whoever who gives a **** just be sure to lose them both and get the best pick possible.

I'm really happy with how Troy has played and personally I'd like to see him get some more time in the last 2 games. His play doesn't make him the future for us, but it could possibly affect our offseason or the way we draft. And if we end up with a top 5 pick, which is likely, I'm not sure Brohm, Woodson or Ryan are worth that type of pick. Personally I put those guys in the 8-12 range as far as prospects. Chris Long would be my top choice followed by Malcolm Jenkins. I'd rather have one of those 2 in the first and then look at a guy like Joe Flacco in the second, maybe picking him up with a trade down.

im not gonna root for a better draft pick because i cant root against my team. i saw the 49er fans around me do that and it was just sad.
that being said i dont think any of the qbs in this draft are worth our place in the draft. i would rather have Chris Long or a top corner, or trade down if possible.

Rookie QB gets call after Boller misses practice again; Billick: 'He's as ready as you're going to be as a rookie'

Troy Smith will make his first NFL start Sunday after Kyle Boller missed his second straight day with a concussion.
Smith, last season's Heisman Trophy winner, has played only four series in the NFL and was playing for the college national championship less than a year ago.
"He's as ready as you're going to be as a rookie," coach Brian Billick said after today's practice. "One thing I don't worry about is that he has a strong personality. You worry what happens if things get ugly with him and pressures ... but he will fight through whatever happens. He's a very strong-willed young man."
It's questionable whether Boller, who suffered the concussion Sunday, can be the Ravens' backup Sunday at Seattle. If he can't play, the Ravens would promote undrafted rookie Cullen Finnerty from the practice squad.
Because of Boller's head injury, Billick acknowledged that Smith could start the season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers, too.
"Concussions are very unpredictable," Billick said. "I'm certainly not an expert so I'll rely on the experts to say what and when that could change."
I mean it sucks that Troy has to go out and get fed to the wolves, but hopefully he can show the poise that he has shown in his other two games so far. Boller with his concussion shouldn't be starting anyways. Give him the time to heal, give the kid a chance to show what he's made of.

Well I hope the OL realy comes to play on sunday cause I cant sit by and watch another young QBs career go down the drain cause that **** just eats at you. I still think we're gonna lose and Troy really prolly turn the ball over a couple times I just hope he keeps his confidence up and makes some big plays too.

Little worried about the fact that Kyle is inactive and that Troy's backup will be Cullen Finnerty the record setting winner from Grand Valley St. Lets just hope the OL keeps Troy upright.

I know they would never do this, but I'd love to see them run a tackle eligible more often. Say Chris Chester, he played TE at OU. Just lineup in double tight and leave Chester blocking on passing plays. Have 6 lineman blocking. Sure they might send more guys on a blitz, but the Seahawks blitz a lot anyways, so we might as well have a lineman picking that up instead of a back or TE. Even more, maybe we shock them on a play and send Chester out on a route, probably like an endzone fade or quick out or something.
On the subject of Troy Smith. He's shown a lot of poise in the pocket and seems to feel pressure well. He was pretty clutch against Miami too, leading us down to tie and and then for a potential game winner. Everyone seems to have confidence in him. Too bad he's got his first start against the Seahawks. We should design a lot of rollout plays to take advantage of his athleticism, and get him away from Kerney and Tapp. Give him some designed runs or something.

I think Troy will go through typical rookie growing pains on Sunday. I wanna see Troy get used on rolls that would be affective, his height wont hurt him on roll outs compared to being in the pocket and his mobility is suited for it.

He ends up being the reason we pick a QB in Round 1 or go for another need like CB or a defensive Lineman like Chris Long(I wish)
