Well.

Prediction

83-14 Chargers

I think Calvin is set up to have his "breakout" game. Love to see some Greg Blue today. I'll continue to watch Peterman and Woody on the right side.

I don't think it'll be close.. Antonio Gates is going to have a huge game. Calvin Johnson could have a decent game, as long as we can protect Kitna and he can get the ball to him. I can see a big game for Antonio Cromartie off of Kitna's mistakes.. We have big trouble covering kicks, so Darren Sproles should have a big game as well. Not to mention Tomlinson and Turner..

I think it'll be something around 38-17, Chargers.

Rivers is banged up and theres a decent chance that Gates doesn't play, but yeah it could very easily get ugly.

I think this game is winnable, but I could also see the Chargers blowing us out.

Dovonte Edwards could be a player for us. Breaks up a pass to Vincent Jackson in the end zone and we hold them to a field goal.

I don't see it. He never even turned to look for the ball on that pass to Chambers that got challenged.

I don't get why he is on the other teams #1. He played straight up against TO last week.

why is CJ dropping passes? man if he turns out to be another WR bust from Detroit, we should seriously never draft a WR ever again. This is ridiculous

I was just about to type something. But he just dropped another one that turns into an INT.

I was going to say that he reminds me a lot of how Braylon Edwards started out his career in Cleveland. Make the amazing catch then comes back and drops the easy one.

Well Middleton looks pretty good. May just be Martz's offense though.

I don't even know what to say....this was bad. Now granted I didn't watch the second half, but who would?!?! I'm sorry I watched the first half. My thoughts for those who wish to read...........

I'm going to try and stay away from the normal complaints (Martz must go, OLine play) and say some other things.

First of all the quarterback situation. (I don't have enough respect for our starter to say his name) It's a mess. Why did he play pretty much the whole game when we were out of it by the end of the first quarter! I know there is a possibility of coming back...but after halftime for sure we needed to put someone else in. We know what we have in our starter, and he is not going to get any better playing the second half of a major blowout. There is not one single reason he should have been in for one second of the second half. Put in O'Sullivan, Orlovsky...hell put in Middleton to play QB I don't care. At least then they get a chance to learn and get some experience. They will never learn anything holding the clipboard, and the "heir" to the Lions future is on IR. I am not a fan of Stanton anyway and think it was a bad pick, but the reason we drafted him was because we didn't think we had our future QB on the roster already....but how could we know when Orlovsky has only played 2 games his entire career. He has something like 17 passes total in the NFL....LT has thrown 11 passes!!!! Something is wrong there. We are not making the playoffs this year, lets see what someone else can do....I would be willing to bet that next year won't be ours either so it's not like "our starter" will be missing valuable learning experience. The defense is playing young players, we can do it at QB too.

The defense....*sigh*

Supposed to be Marinelli's strong suit, yet I do not see much improvement as of yet. OK, so he is a DL specialist, where is the production? We got NO pressure in this game. Granted San Diego didn't have to pass much because they were just running over us the whole time.....Tomlinson will do that.....but you still have to tackle when we get the chance. Anyway my point is they say it takes 2-3 years for Marinelli's system to take place, and thats fine, but when we get guys who have been in it for years (D. White) and he still isn't doing much I begin to wonder. Injuries....yeah ok, somewhat that is taking an effect, but how can it be that none of the guys we have on the DL are getting it. Can it be possible that we have so many un-interested players that even the great Marinelli can't motivate them???

The secondary is putrid. We can't cover anyone. Trading Bly was a mistake, and not only because the players we got for him were dirty banana peel equivalent, but because at least then we had someone who could make a play. Kennedy is done....we have no corner worth starting....it needs help.

I could go on but I'm just exhausted thinking about what else is wrong, so I open the floor to anyone who wishes to slam my thoughts or explain to me why I am wrong.

One caveat: I did my best to avoid the extremely large elephant in the room (management) as I don't think anyone can miss that blunder. Well except the largest American auto producer.....

We lack talent on the defensive side of the ball... we know this. The defense will continue to get nailed until we sign/draft/trade for talent. Period.

Trading Bly was NOT a mistake... but trading Bly for what we traded him for was. Bell wont be on the team and Foster shouldn't be on the team... horrible deal for us.

We (most of us) knew our weaknesses before the season started... so I'm not mad yet. If we fail to improve our defense this off season, though, I might become a Bills fan.

(I think CJ needs some time to work into the professional game. He has a lot of talent... you can see it... but he's making "rookie mistakes". Let him make them now... he'll come around. Oh... and Edwards needs to turn around and look for the football.)

I agree. As I said before the season started, we will be watching a lot of games where our defense gives up 30+ points. We drafted and signed with offense in mind and you cannot expect any real improvement until our defense is brought up to snuff.
I've said and reiterated all along that Kitna is not capable of producing more than 8 wins at maximum. He's been in the league 11 years and that is the highest total he ever accomplished. He's a career backup QB who at age 35 isn't going to get one iota better. It doesn't matter how good our WR's are, if you don't have a consistent QB who can get them the ball in all situations.
Millen has long abandoned the IDEA of a playoff team capable of winning the Super Bowl. He has fallen into the 6-8 win mentality needed to keep his job.
He is INCOMPETENT, period. He is an exceptionally poor drafter who continues to make the same mistakes over and over again. Everybody in the NFL KNOWS you don't rebuild a team starting with WR's, everybody that is besides Millen. He continues to believe that FA can solve most of a team's problems, forgetting that FA's are players their original teams have rejected because they are too old and have slipped in their skill levels or are players who don't really fit on a team committed to winning.
Under Millen's guidance I simply do not think there is even a remote chance that we will ever see the playoffs again, absolutely no chance in h-ll.
Millen can pull off all the trades in the world both with veterans and draft picks but if you cannot judge talent, they aren't going to amount to much.
Anybody who criticizes the coaches or players on the Lions is simply playing into Millen's hands. He and he alone is responsible for this mess. I guess I should include that other INCOMPETENT, FORD!!!

Forget how the offense and defense played.

You don't give up 50 pts twice in a season. This isn't XBOX.

You don't get blown out by 30+ points on the road 4 times.

As bad as dolphins are they've not been embarrassed to this degree on the road.

Until Matt Millen isn't gone.....nothing's going to change.

I'm still giving it one more off season. In the past, we had an excuse: "We need a franchise QB. NOW we need WRs to complement him. How about a RB? Oops... the WR was a bust... we really need a good WR." Now, there are no excuses. We just can't ignore our biggest weaknesses (which are on that list year after year).

The 6-2 start blew the season out of perspective... we've got a lot of holes and it'll take some talent to fix them.

It's funny.. earlier in the year, I knew we were doing good because of an easy schedule and bad QB's.. But then we pounded Denver real, real hard.. and I thought we might have had something there for a second.

Oh well, at least we won't have to wait long for the Lions to pick on draft day, again! We're at #12 Overall right now.
