Runs a bad 40 will he drop significantly? Im not trying to flame KU in any way, but remember Charles Gordon. At one time i think he was a 1st rounder in scott's mock a couple years ago. They are similar players, they both had an impact on special teams, played some wr, and left after their Jr year. Talib is a better player and would never fall to being undrafted like Gordon because of the season KU had. But could he drop to to the mid rounds? I think as scouts look at his tape they will see he gambles a lot and makes some ints but he gets beat a lot too. So without a stellar combine could he drop significantly like Gordon? Your thoughts?

probably lot of people base players on how well their numbers are bad 40 means a drop. Good 40 means go higher up even if you aren't that great.

I don't think he'll drop sig. unless he runs a 4.6 or worse...but he's better than Gordon, and if he runs a 4.5 or in that range, he'll prob. be a second rounder.

The main difference between Charles Gordon and Aqib Talib I think is that it's pretty much a known fact that Talib should be playing in a cover 2 defense. Teams that run the Cover 2 will take him early regardless of what he runs. He's too talented not to.

If Talib runs a 40 time that doesn't disappoint people, then he might just be my #1 target for the Lions at 15.

I like him a lot. Makes a lot of plays.

The Chiefs are said to be high on him and they do run the cover two I could see them taking him in round two if still on the board.

A bad 40 time can drop a corner further than any other position, imo. They're supposed to be the fastest guys on your team.

No one is expecting a 4.3 or even a 4.4, but if he runs a high 4.5 or even a 4.6 he will drop into round 2 or possibly even 3. It also doesn't help that Jack Ike declared which drops Talib a spot in the corner rankings, barring some really funky 40 times for both of them (ie.. Ike running a 4.4+ and Talib a 4.4-)

If if he runs a bad time, yes, it will hurt him. However, not as bad as it hurt Gordon purely because of the physical differences between the two. Charles is a bit over 5'9" and 180lbs, Aqib is 6'2 and 205lbs. Aqib fits the bill for what teams want in the "prototype" corner.

For what it's worth though Aqib is 1 of the 3 fastest guys on the KU squad. That comes from a very reliable source.

Daymeion Hughes had a horrible workout last year and only dropped a round

He was barely drafted in the 3rd round. He dropped tremendously because a decent 40 time would have led him to easily be an early second rounder.

But come on, this question can be asked to every single player being drafted and each one of them would hurt their stock with a bad 40 time. Watch for Cason to have a horrible 40 time and drop out of the first.

even if he runs bad he might not fall too much since many teams might consider him good safety material

Oh, I don't doubt him. It was just too good to pass up.

If Talib does end up running a 4.4 or somehow a 4.3, I think he could threaten for the number one CB and a definite top 15.

Depending on who you talk to many people think he is a guy in that 4.45-4.55 range anyway.... If he runs worse then that it will probaly hurt his stock at corner, CBs stock lives or dies more than anyother position with 40s and Shuttles.

Hes starting to look like one of those boom or bust candidates. Hes one of the most unpredictable prospects in my mind.

if he runs a good 40 i see him at 15 to DET, if not maybe a team gambles on him but with Ike and a decent combine by others (especially Cason) i see him as a Cover 2 CB in rnd 2 to KC or teams looking to move him to FS.
