Mayock has proven to be a good talent evaluator and I must say that I have not seen a snap that Avery has played. I saw Scott has him ranked 10th and I was wondering what everyone thought of him. Measureables are impressive. Had great #'s in a pass happy offense. Thoughts?

I too have seen few snaps of Donnie Avery but here is what I know

He is a good deep man who has turned into a consistent pass catcher who apparently ran a 4.3 by NFL scouts in the spring. Ranked 5th in the nation among recieving yards and can be a good return specialist

He is a good player, but I think the #2 senior WR is Jordy Nelson. He can be #3.

Huh? I thought Jordy was #1 overall on your draft board. My, how things have changed.

Lol. I am a defender of Jordy Nelson, not a overrater.

Reminds me of Santonio Holmes.

I think Mayock is predicting he will have a good combine and move up the boards, that is why he is the #2 senior. I remember an article a couple weeks ago claiming Avery and Aldridge run in the 4.2's. That will get everyones attention. How is Avery's leaping ability and hands?

why is what Mayock says so important around here?
seriously, just because the guy works for the NFL doesnt mean he knows a lot.

what are you talking about?
just because someone attends the draft doesnt mean they know about it. I went to a play on Cats once, but i dont know s*** about Cats.

He has a pretty good track record. People have started to take notice to what he says because has proven himself as someone to listen to.

He has access to alot more tape than us, he has the recognition and has made some verry good reads about players. etc etc

I think Avery will be the #1 slot drafted, like Anthony Gonzalez last year. He'll shred the 40 and 3-cone, but I think Harry Douglas has a better vert.

Patriots 16-0...who's your #1 WR if Nelson is #2?

My theory is that draft analysts purposly slightly overrate players to get people's attention...Honestly, would we be talking about Mayock and his draft rankings if it was basically the same as the consenus around draft circles. But I do believe Mayock thinks that Avery is currently underrated, so he puts him high on his draft board to get some recognition when the combine comes around, and Avery shoots up the draft boards, but doesn't quite shoot up to the #2 receiver.

Avery is pretty good. He can play. I wonder a little about downfield blocking with him. But he can catch and he runs like a scalded dog.

I love the Houston recievers. I think Avery and Aldridge will be great draft picks if they come after round three. Great value three and up. I know he's a running back but I evsion him as a wr in the nfl

I'm not a big fan of athletes who talk back to their coaches. That will raise a big red flag at the combine.

I love Donnie Avery. He was such a steal when I got him at the very end of the 4th Round in the forum mock...

Actually he's listed (according to the link) as tied for the #1 senior WR with Sweed. You might want to change the thread title.

Limas Sweed.

I don't understand why people have Limas Sweed so high. When it comes down to it, he is basically a deep threat with poor speed.

I don't understand why people have Limas Sweed so high. When it comes down to it, he is basically a deep threat with poor speed.Essentially, he's Sidney Rice.

But two years older, with significantly worse production on a significantly better team, and an injury risk.

Mayock has proven himself a very reliable talent evaluator in the past, I trust him.

Most of us here have seen enough of Mayock to take him seriously. You cant deny the fact hes consistently been fairly accurate with his player analysis and rankings in the past few years.
