My local newspaper (Baton Rouge, La.) did a write-up comparing the top programs in the nation to determine who the best collegiate football program was of the decade.

While they may be a little biased, the writer chose LSU based on two BCS titles this decade and more bowl wins (6) than any other program. The only team to compare is USC.

Let the debate begin.

IMO, it has to be USC.

Depends what you mean by decade. Since 2000 isn't a decade.

I think it easily is down between:
USC (a NC win and loss, 3 other BCS wins, two CRAP years though)
LSU (2 NC wins, 2 other BCS wins)
Miami (a NC win and loss, 2 other BCS wins
Ohio State (Made the most NC, won 1 lost two, 2 other BCS wins)

OSU and LSU are the only two of the above to make a Bowl game every year since 2000 though.

Hard choice, hard choice.

USC

6 Winning Seasons
6 BCS Games
2 National Championship Games
1 NC
1 Screwed out of a NC shot in 03
3 Heisman winners
Hired probably the best coach in the country in 01
Always has a top 5 recruiting class

yea, I'll go with them

USC, Ohio State, LSU, and Miami, though Miami has totally tailed off. Oklahoma has been pretty good too.

I'd go with that list too. LSU has the excuse of being in the SEC as to their number of losses, OSU has been near the top and USC in like 4 years lost 3 games by something like less than 10 points combined, not sure about those numbers but i know it's rediculous.

Heading into the Rose Bowl game USC was vying for a third straight national title and a 35-game winning streak. Not just the best team of this decade but one of the best teams ever.

LSU owns this poll.

Click on each team to see their arguments. USC has one more win and one less loss than LSU.

The thing that stops me about USC is their 2000 and 2001 one seasons. Not even making a Bowl?

they made the Las Vegas Bowl in 01 after going 6-6 in Carroll's first year...plus the rest of the decade after that kinda makes up for it, they went to 6 straight BCS bowls after that

USC is #1 in my book they had a chance to win 3 NC in a row and have been to a BCS game every year since 2002 (5 years in a Row)

it woulda been 3 trips to the BCS NCg if it weren't for damn UCLA.

i'd go with oklahoma or maybe Ohio State.

it would have to be USC or OSU, or LSU. They have been amazing just about every year.

I'd say its either LSU or USC with Oklahoma and Ohio State in the ballpark.

Honestly, its USC, but its not as big a gap as a lot of people want to believe it is. 6 straight conference titles is what puts them over the top for me.
