Lets see....

If San Diego wins I'll have to root for the NYG...gives the possibility of a Rivers/Manning bowl (where Rivers can own Manning :p), plus it would prevent the entire nation from rooting against SD (not that we have many fans to begin with, but if you throw us against Favre, all of America outside of San Diego is pulling for GB)...

buttt....if New England wins, I gotta hope Green Bay can win. I can't stand to have to choose between rooting for Eli to win a Super Bowl and the Patriots going 19-0. Yech.

EDIT: On another note, what game do you think the NFL wants to see happen. Any game with Green Bay gives you the "Favre's last hurrah" story; SD/NYG gives you the battle of the '04 draft day trade; New England always gives you the perfection story...which one makes the best story?

I want to pick the Chargers. I do. I think they'll get pressure on Brady, unlike the Jaguars. I think they'll dink and dunk, and run, their way downfield and move the ball well enough against the 2nd tier of the Patriots defense. At the end of the day, though, I think perfection continues. I look to see a heavy dose of Laurence Maroney to try and stifle the pass rush, and I think Watson and Welker could have big games. On the other side, I think the Patriots defense will shake up their passing game enough and that the Chargers won't have the gigantic rushing day they probably need to win.

Giants/Packers is much more interesting. I think the Giants need a huge, huge rushing effort, and I'm not sure they can. But I also think the Giants can get a lot of pressure on Favre while not giving up too many big plays or a big rushing day from Grant. Can Eli stay steady? Can Kevin Boss and Steve Smith deliver? Can Corey Webster play big again and help neutralize the Packers air attack? I think the Packers might get in trouble if Spags front 4 can get pressure consistently. All that said, I'm going Packers. Brett Favre will handle the pressure a bit better than Romo and make enough plays. Packers won't give up a gigantic rush day.

Thats what they do, kinda how they talked about the pats and colts undefeated game weeks before it even happened, ill be watching closely to see if the calls are leaning towards that matchup...it probably does present the best story line, be interesting if it was the packers and pats who majority of people would be pulling for...

but I think that matchup presents the best ratings for a superbowl in some time quite possibly

Sometimes I feel sorry for him because he is compared to Peyton and Archie.

This season was a big year for Eli. Especially these last few weeks. He is obviously never going to be Peyton and they shouldn't be compared, but everyone will continue to do it. However Eli has now won 2 playoff games in his 4th year, his 3rd full year starting. It took Peyton a couple more seasons to do that. That seems to be the new thing people want to point out. That pretty much doesn't mean anything, but if it gets people off Eli's back and stop comparing him to his brother than I'm all for it.

Oh definitely...I can't say we've exactly been the "classiest" organization...but there are still enough people out there that don't like Eli or New York sports in general that would give us some support...

Whereas playing the Packers...c'mon, even I kind of want to see Favre win one more before his career is done.

As nice as it is to be the favourite this year, I miss the years when we would roll into cities with 3rd and 4th string DB's and scrubs at RB and WR and still beat teams. I would much rather be in SD position than NE, but I still want and think NE will win.
With that said, I gave SD no chance going into IND last week. I for one, had thought nothing of Rivers as a QB, but right now, there is nothing I can do but respect him. I think it will be a game in Foxboro, and I cant wait.

CC.SD
01-16-2008, 11:17 AM
I said this in the Divisional round 2 when everyone was predicting an Indy blowout: SD has a chance against any team.

When you have run stuffers, a pass rush that can get to the QB, and a ballhawking secondary, you can slow down or stop teams. It's hard to score on good defenses in the NFL.

And on offense, LT is due for a monster game, plus the aerial attack has been clicking very very well. Rivers and Gates will play, don't be fooled.

No guarantees against perfection but I don't think this becomes a blowout.

Twiddler
01-16-2008, 11:24 AM
Maybe I heard differently but I think I just heard something on ESPN about the Patriots thinking they don't believe the Chargers injury report saying that LT and Rivers are going to play either way. Now I do agree with the Patriots but this kind of makes me wonder, can they actually talk about injury reports that may be a little fictional? Maybe this just amuses me.

I've been drunk, Favre's been drunk, Eli's been drunk, half the world has been drunk. I didn't take a personal shot at Eli saying he is a terrible QB or that this had anything to do with him today. I really think the X-Factor for the Giants game is our LBs. If they can plug up the holes and stop Grant from getting into open space, we can force the Packers to be one-dimensional and possibly create a better pass rush. I'm looking for a big game by Pierce for us to win.
I'm not so sure making us pass is what you want to do. We lived off only our passing game the first half of the season. It's not like we're the Vikings that when you shut down the run you shut down the offense. I honestly can't see you shutting down any part of our offense, but you should want it to be the pass. If the Giants win it'll be in a shoot out.

I'm scared of your passing game, especially the short slants and dinks and dunks you guys use. I may be in the minority, but I'm not scared of your running game. I think it'll be Favre, Driver, Jennings&Co. who will have to beat us. That and your D. I don't see a full blown shoot out, but I see a higher scoring game with both team in the high 20's-mid 30's range

I am scared of your passing game, but even though our secondary is lacking, we thrive on teams being forced to pass the ball. If you have noticed all of the games we have won, it is based on us shutting down the run in timely manners. What the Giants excel at is obviously our pass rush and forcing QBs to be quick and have to check down for shorter routes. Plus, with the weather condition looking the way they are, I think it is a must for both teams to shut-down the running back. People always forget that by shutting down the running game usually allows for less time of possession as well. Obviously the team that wins the time of possession battle usually wins the game (sorry Cowboys fans).

We have no problem being one dimensional especially through the air. We've won many games without a running game, Grant gave us the ability to blowout teams.

It's not like you can shut down our offense by holding us to a short and quick passing game, we might do that anyway just for the hell of it. Your pass rush is good, but so are Clifton and Tauscher and you're gonna have to get in Favre's face a lot if you want to force incompletions. I'd expect a very high completion percentage when he has time and a very low one when he doesn't, so I think that will really dictate how our offense moves. Or maybe we'll just pound Grant, it's nice having options.

Giants/Pats.

the Giants had a chance to stop the Pats from being the first team to go 16-0. If they both make it, the Giants will have the chance to stop them from being the first team to go 19-0.

ESPN and all other sports outlets are making it seem like this is not even going to be a good game this weekend because the immortal Brett Favre is playing. of course media outlets have already started hyping that game up right now anyway, but the ratings are going to be crazy high for that game if it happens

And I love that drunken pic of Eli, i think it owns the drunken pic of big ben with the grizzly beard, plus that chic is pretty hot and im sure he took her and her friend home and smashed both...i love seeing pics of star qbs with chics at parties, every chic wants to screw a tall rich qb lol

On offense, Strahan and Osi are attacking ends. So we attack them the say way we attaced Kerney and Tapp. Then when we throw the ball, spread em out like usual but leave Bubba in to block and help Tauscher/Clifton. Dink n dunk down the field all day!

On defense, stop the run, then blitz the poop out of Eli.

haha....no and go to bed and thank God your a fan of a team that is nothing like the Cowboys.

But honestly...there were no after the whistle hits and none were blatantly dirty a la Harrison. The kind of hits the Giants put on them week 2 happen in almost every contest on a weekly basis in the NFL, but the Packers were the ones that started crying about it.

Agreed its no dirtier than the cut blocks the GB O-line does ala Denver. Which I don't have an issue with. The bottom line is its a non-issue. I'm just happy GB said it and irked the Giants players a bit. You can tell by all their sarcastic remarks it bothered them a bit.

well...the clip i saw, showed a pretty blatent forearm to the head by O'Hara to Aaron Kampman. it looked dirty to me, and i'm usually not biased, or a homer.

and, really, when Kampman was talking about it, he was smiling and saying it almost jokingly. so, it's not like our boys are really "crying about it."

The QB is still in the pocket, the linemen are still engaged, and the defensive linemen is closer to the QB than the offensive linemen. Thus, the offensive lineman hits the defensive linemen to prevent him from getting up and making a play.

That play happens handful of times every game. Not a dirty hit.

I really wish ESPN would stop hyping us up, its just setting the stage for an upset, thanks alot ESPN!

Maybe its just me but i really do think we're the better team, no doubt about it, but whenever you hype a team up like this it just sets the stage for an upset. I mean we have a better QB, better WR's, RB's are probably equal, better Oline, just as good of a Dline, better LB's and a better secondary.
I think Favre can pick apart NY's secondary because of its lack of depth, especially in he Big 5 set, I think Grant can keep NY on their heels. Clifton and Tauscher can contain Osi and Mike. Our good dline rotation always comes in handy late in the game. Plus i dont think NY has the type of depth at WR to challenge our depth in the secondary and Atari should manage Boss well.

The Cowboys played us twice and we ended up beating them in the playoffs in a very exciting game. So just because we played in the regular season does not equate for a miserable Super Bowl.

He did say it without the attitude that you would expect for a player complaining about cheap shots, so I agree that they're not really "crying about it." However, I still would have preferred it not becoming an issue that gives them a little more motivation thing. My same thoughts on the Seinfeld thing, I mean why do it? Just to get a little attention? It certainly isn't making Eli Manning uncomfortable because of some things called DVD players and Seinfeld seasons on DVD. Not to mention its also on TBS. Sorry, I'll wrap up my "Jay Zollar is an idiot" rant.

Go Patriots and Packers. First of all, I live in Wisconsin, and it will be nutso if the Pack are in the SB. Wouldn't mind the Giants in there, I wish the Pack-Giants game could be the SB cuz don't get me wrong, I hate the Pats and Chargers. However; gentlemen, or in Xiomera's case; lady, or in Patriots-Lions case: heshe, my hatrid for the Patriots is because on a February night in 2002, they were 3 points better than my team. They are simply a great team, and I wanna see greatness continue. However, I don't hate the Chargers; I hate Castillo, Merriman cuz they both used steroids, which is worse than what Bill Belicheck did, and I hate Phillip Rivers cuz he is a prick. Oh yeah, have a great day.

GAtes is hurt but that may be good in the end.

All the injuries may actually be good. The bad knee prevents rivers from gettin jitters. also forces norv to run which is good. LTs injury means turner plays more and thats good. Gates injury means we could see the good rivers again, seeing as he no longer has his crutch.

add all that to the wind which doesnt really affect us but does so to the pats greatly.. throw in that we're the number 1 turnover defense since the ravens htat one year..

I can't believe the Packers/Giants will have to wait two weeks to lose in the Superbowl. I can just see the two weeks of media questioning them how it will feel like to lose to one of the greatest teams of all time.

You can blame Chambers for the first Int though

Yeah, I know, drives me nuts. Even when they played the Jets or Dolphins. It also drives me nuts when I hear or see GO [ENTER WHOEVER THE PATS PLAY], **** THE PATS/PATRIOTS, they are cheaters. Hate it.

I'm pleased for Kaeding. He is an excellent regular season kicker. Whilst he has missed some big post season kicks, they have all been tough ones, and he does not deserve all the flak he has received.

What has Milwaukee done to deserve and exclamation point?

Also, what happened to Mercury girl?

To win this game the Chargers had to get touchdowns, not field goals. No luck so far.

Being down five to New England at half-time isn't the end of the world. But it is if we don't get a stop right away to start the second half. At some point we're gonna need to convert in the redzone...

I'm curious to see if Norv uses LT now, since he's fresh and seemingly ready to go...

"LT being out isn't that big of a loss. They have two really good back-ups"

That was the dumbest thing I heard all week. LT is the best RB in the league; Losing him is a big loss. The other two are back-ups for a reason.....

Looks like Brady really is trying to be like his idol Manning... :D
