I can't be the only comic book fan on this forum, so i decided that we should have our own thread. Feel free to discuss anything comics, from Marvel to DC, movies to novels, whatever tickles your fancy. Post pics, argue, state your favourite this or that.
Ill start, gotta say my favourite superhero is Iron Man. Cant wait for the movie to come out in May.

I'm a fan of Tomb of Dracula that was my favorite as a kid and still is today. I never really got into anything like Spider-Man. I always liked the darker characters like Blade, Spawn, The Crow etc...

Read The Watchmen. That's an order.
Watchmen completely revolutionized comics and graphic novels. It brought gritty and dark comics to the forefront of our generation, paving the way for the retooling of Batman and boosted the popularity of some anti-heroes like Wolverine and The Punisher. Its a classic.

when I was between the ages of 8-14, I used to get collect. Spider-Man was always my favorite but I used to think that the Scarlet Spider was better than Spider-Man.

Robert Downey Jr. is a great fit for Iron Man, I think. However, that could just be because I think his being a sarcastic ass is hilarious.

he really is, but for mroe then just hsi sarcasm. He looks the part, but also his real life struggles with substance abuse parallell the troubles with alcohol abuse that Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) struggles with in the comics. Im really excited to see how the movies turns out, the trailer looks awesome.

I used to be a huge comic book nerd but stopped collecting about 8 years ago. I was really big into X-Men and all of the spinoffs of that title.

batman is badass indeed...i cant wait for the dark knight. im a big fan of christopher nolans version of batman, although tim burton didnt do a bad job. I seriously think this performanceof the joker will be one of my all time favourite movie characters, along with van wilder and tyler durden.

Anyone else think this movie looks amazing? teh part where he just poons the tank pretty much made me hard, i cant wait for it to come out in may.

I stop by the comic shop every two of three weeks. I'm moving further and further away from Marvel though thanks to the events of House of M (made me drop all X titles), Civil War (made me drop a bunch of other titles) and One More Day (so long Spidey titles). At this point, the comics I buy regularly are.
Mighty Avengers
Exiles
Hulk (the new one)
She-Hulk
Nova
Ms. Marvel
JLA
JSA
Teen Titans
Green Lantern
and sometimes New Avengers.
I didn't buy the Sinestro Corps War Green Lantern comics because I am waiting for the TPB's.
Not really digging the Exiles reboot and I'm waiting to see where they go with the whole Red Hulk story before I make a final decision whether or not its worth buying on a long term basis.

DC definitely rocks Marvel's socks. I'll read the occasional graphic novel here and there, and The Dark Knight Returns has to be the best one I've read. I'm really hoping that one is eventually turned into a movie.

im a marvel man myself...but only certain titles. I was big into the xmen when i was a kid, but the whole apocalypse thing turned me off pretty quick. I was never a fan of the JLA, however i do love batman but i dislike superman. Iron Man was always my favourite hero, I think because he did it all himself like he created his own armour, didnt have any special powers other then the fact that hes supersmart.
Also, I really liked iron man because he had real life troubles, like his struggle with alcoholism. some other comics i am big on:
Deadpool (without doubt my 2nd favourite...hes witty and probably the most deadly weapons master in all of comics)
Hellblazer (Constantine)- a was a big fan of these as well...another alan moore creation. (yes he is a genius)

I'm just the opposite. I don't care about the top DC characters such as Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman. Nor do I care about Spider-man or the X-Men, although my apathy towards them is more recent. And while I've been reading Hulk recently, I stopped that from a period reaching from '96 (or whenever the whole Onslaught thing was, I think it was '96) until Planet Hulk.

DC comics also has the ultimate character... The Spectre. He's basically God's wrath on earth. Probably too powerful, which is why the character never became big, but still very awesome.

i was never a big fan of those kind of charadcters...same as apocalypse in the xmen series and even superman to a degree. I prefer characters who have struggled with their own inner demons or arent completely unbeatable. It just takes the fun right out of it lol.

I disagree with all the Superman hate. Yes, he is a little bland at times, but there is something to be said for his 'purity' and compassion for man. Also, while he is one of the most powerful heroes, he also has one of the most critical weaknesses (obviously being kryptonite). It definitely adds a different dimension to a story when the hero has such a glaring weakness that pretty much anyone could defeat him. I'm not saying he's my favorite character (probably would be Batman), but I think I'd definitely have to put him in the top 5.

My problem with Superman(and I haven't read comics in a while, so this might have changed) actually is the whole kryptonite thing. He's ridiculously overpowered, he only has one weakness, and yet, any geek off the street seems to be able to get their hands on kryptonite. Did the entire planet of krypton fall on earth or what? Having a character with only one weakness is kind of lame as is. But to have it be something that is supposedly fairly rare, yet everyone seems to have a hunk of it, is just a way too much for me.

I never really got into the whole comic book thing, although I think they are very cool and I have a few issues laying around the house. One series that is unrelated to Marvel and DC that I've been looking for but unable to find is The Gargoyles. I'm not sure who produces the line, but it's supposed to be a darker continuation of the Disney TV series from the 90s of the same name. That show was badass.

IIRC, the Gargoyles comic was a continuation by the original creator of the cartoon while the televised continuation was not.
As for Iron Man, I'm not a fan. I used to be, but Civil War put an end to that. I was a fan of Mask of the Iron Man. I didn't buy the issues, but I got the TPB and IMO it was a truly great story. Then they ****ed it up by just retconning it into some basic evil villian plot by Ultron. I stopped reading Iron Man after that.

just wanted to post an update or two in this thread, get it going again.
-In the new Wolverine: Origins movie that is coming out in 2009, Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine, while newcomer Taylor Klitcsh will play the role of Gambit, which is a surprise cause i never figured that Gambit would be in this movie. Also, Ryan Reynolds, one of my favourite actors, will be playing Deadpool, an assasin and fellow cohort of wolverine in weapon X. It is also rumoured that will.i.am has joined the cast and will be playing Kestrel. Liev Schrieber is playing Victor Creed/Sabertooth. At first i thought this movie might suck, but now im kinda looking forward to it. Gambit was always my 2nd favourite xmen (behind nightcrawler), and deadpool may have been my favouirite comic book character in general (his quick pop culture references and sarcasm were always hilarious, and i think that reynolds will star in the role, they are already talking spinoffs on aintitcool.com).
Speaking of which, i was wondering earlier, who are everyones favourite xmen? im pretty sure wolverine will win this, but Nightcrawler always took it home from me. I felt that they portrayed him admirably in X2, that white house scene is one of my favourite scenes of all time. He was a favourite in the comics too. What about you guys?

more updates courtesy of APS for you comic book lovers...
1) A Thor movie is in the works, and stars such as cillian murphy(loki), kate beckinsale(lady sith), and Linda Cardellini (Jane Foster) have already been cast. Jesse Spencer from House is rumoured to play Don Blake/Thor
2) A silver surfer movie is in the works, with a release date set for 2009. No further details. Same thing for ant-man and a nick fury movie (supposedly with samuel L jackson continuing his role form the upcoming iron man movie) is set for release in 2010.
3)Spider Man 4 has been confirmed, with villians Cletus Kassidy (carnage) and The Lizard as the two primary villains.
Discuss! and the mroe i think, the more pumped i am about the possibility of a deadpool movie. Anyone else excited about this? I think that reynolds may steal the show in the upcoming wolverine movie.

I haven't read comics in a while, but alternate universes in the Marvel multiverse. It's not new to Marvel. That's my guess anyway. I don't read them anymore. If they're all in the same universe, that's just inconsistent or different timetables.
