LOS ANGELES - A breakthrough in contract talks has been reached between Hollywood studios and striking writers and could lead to a tentative deal as early as next week, a person close to the ongoing negotiations said Saturday.
Don't want to get to excited, but Thank God for some kind of breakthrough.

good! i need new office. i'm starting to get the shakes.
seriously, they don't even need to waste time writing an episode. just get all the characters together....all i need is:
5 minutes of michael saying, "that's what she said"
jim responding with a goofy look at the camera every time.
dwight getting pissed.
and a scene involving pam and full frontal nudity.
should be ready to air by next thursday.

I would like for the strike to be over to save the fall 2008 season. I think it's too late to really do much about the rest of this year. Just doesn't seem likely.

I can only hope and pray that the writers can finish the last 8 episodes of LOST so they can air this year.

What are you talking about? South Park always has the huge gap in the middle of their season. Also, they don't use union writers so the strike had zero effect on them.

Good and bad...
The Good...Drew Goddard can now start working on Cloverfield 2.
The Bad...I think the late night talk shows are much funnier now. Hell even Jimmy Kimmel is funny now and i've never liked that show.

Ugh, please resolve this.
24, Lost, Heroes, etc. all need to come back.
Of course, ironically, I'm sure this deal will end up breaking down anyways.
..sigh..

does 24 even HAVE writers? i've watched it before and it just seemed like random yelling and shooting. with a little bit of the worst, most uncreative dialogue ever created.

NBC said that episodes will begin showing a month after the strike is actually over.

It is possible that a lot of episodes have been written, but they need to "punch up" certain lines and such. I know Lost has been story-boarded for the remainder of the series.

Episodes are usually only written about a month before they air.
You guys cannot be serious about being mad at the writers. The studios are ******* them. They are bending them over and ******* them in the ass. I would rather the writers get a fair deal and have to suffer through reruns then the shows get back on the air with the writers still getting butt ******.

Though I don't believe anyone was blaming the writers, I do agree with what you said, just with less rape references. From what I've read, it's not as if the writers are asking for alot, they just want sliver. Give them a sliver.

Well, this is something I found out during the writers strike. I don't really care. I mean, I like the Daily Show, and the Colbert Report, and Battlestar Galactica, and Stargate Atlantis I guess, and Heroes, but you know what? Through the combination of classes starting up again, X-Box 360, ITunes, youtube, the ESPN networks, Starz and Netflix, I can live without them. Very easily.

I don't think you can live without them long term. The state of television now is absolutely horrendous. This can't work on a long term basis.

well about time... just give them what they want... televised entertainment just doens't work without writers.

Not really. Some shows had a full season already taped before the strike. CSI Miami had 6 months of shows already filmed. Jamie Lynne Spears' show had one full season already in the books. Then again, a lot of shows didnt use that approach. I'm surprised some writers dont go out and represent themselves and sell the script for a nice profit while everyone in the union is waiting for a deal. My dad bought a book on how to write scrips Hollywood Would Love so he can make something up and try to sell it while the writers are out of the job. haha I'm sure the writers are having fun settling for minimum wage jobs while they are waiting for a new deal.

the only good thing about the absence of new episodes is it has allowed me to watch previous seasons on DVD in order to get into certain shows, like I just started watching the Office the week after christmas and already want season 4 to resume, idk how you guys who have waited longer haven't killed someone yet lol

The VAST majority do not do that. Especially network shows.
If a writer crosses the picket line they will never get a job in the industry again. They will be kicked out of the union and the union writes into the contract that only union members can get jobs, otherwise no union member will work for that company. Scabbing is the absolute last thing you want to do as an aspiring writer.
Here is a very good thread on another message board about this very thing(it also has a lot of links to articles saying the same thing:
