After watching the Texas vs. The Nation game I got to say I was really impressed with WR Danny Amendola. He doesn't have the prototypical size (5'11 177lbs) and isn't the fastest guy (4.50), but he runs great routes and has good hands. He works out with Wes Welker in the off-season, and I can see a resemblance between the two (except for Welker being at a much higher level obviously). I think the similarities between him and Welker can work in his advantage since teams might give him an extra look because of Welker's success this year.

Anyway. What are you guys thoughts on him? Is he worth being drafted? If so; how high?

i got to see a few TT games this year and at times, he seemed to be even more valueable than crabtree was.

i thought he could be a real nice 3rd or 4th WR depending on what he can add on special teams as well.

when i didnt see him ranked at all on this site, i thought maybe he wasnt draft eligible...but no.

i think he should earn a chance with a team, even if its just undrafted like welker was

Scott has him as his #40 WR right now.

I believe he can return kicks. At least he lined up as KR in the Texas vs. The Nation game.

i wasnt sure if he was ranked now or not but i checked not long after their bowl game i believe and he wasnt there at all....

im pretty sure he was returning punts in the bowl game but i can't remember for sure. if so, and hes decent at it, he might have a shot

According to the official website he didn't have any punt or kick returns in the game, but I remember seeing him line up to return one. Probably ended up being a touchback.

For Texas Tech he is a good inside target and an ok route runner. Has quickness and from what iv seen he has good hands. im not sure if he has much upside. At best could be a slot reciever though he does not have short area quickness speed (within the 5 yards of the line of scrimmage or after the catch)

I can say that Sigmund Bloom from NFLDraftguys likes him. Bloom was at the Texas versus Nation practices and game.

I think this guy is a pretty good receiver. Every TT game I saw it seems he caught everything that was thrown at him and he came up big in the clutch. I like him and he definetly reminds me of Welker in a way.

I don't like the Welker comparison's, he's not a physically gifted; however, he's still a good sleeper WR. He seems like the type of guy (from the little I've seen of him) that could be a solid slot.

I agree with Staubach and one of the reasons why i said

I didnt want people to think he could be a wes welker type player

If Welker is so physically gifted, why did he go undrafted, and then get cut from his first camp? Ill grant that Amendola is not quite as quick or fast as Welker, but their game is very similar.

Because his gifts aren't the obvious things that normally make you say "wow", like a 40" vertical or 4.2 speed.

Needless to say, though, his skills--his ability to get open, his ability to actually catch passes sent his way*, his ability to own opposing DBs as a blocker in the running game--were exactly what the Patriots were looking for, and knew how to utilize. As I've pointed out on other boards, Miami might have gotten a good center in Samson Satele, but the Pats got even more from Welker.

*He caught 67% of the passes for which he was designated the target in Miami in 2006. He caught 77% for NE in 2007, which is an almost unheard-of number.

I've heard about this before, but what team was it that cut Wes Welker? They got to be kicking themselves right about now.
