KCJ58 suggested I create a thread to discuss the league which was a good idea.

First topic at hand, draft time. Right now it is Wednesday Mar 12 at 7pm Eastern. Xio suggested a Monday would work better which is fine with me. What is everyone else's input.

I think this time is doable for me. Mondays, I'm not really free until after 8:30 PM. Other than that, I can generally make myself available.

Jughead10

Well I know Monday are bad for GF1080 right off the bat, unless we can start the draft at 10:30.

Well, I'm usually available all day every Friday. I can do it Wednesday, but not until after 9:30. Mondays are fine, except I usually work until 9:00 PM.

I could do it. As long as it's a live draft and everyone shows, we should be in good shape.

If we keep the Points Only format (which I am not opposed to), we need to work hard at coming up with an effective method of scoring the stat categories. It can be done, we just have to figure out exactly which stats we want to track first.

Giantsfan1080
02-13-2008, 02:22 PM
I don't mind doing the points. I believe 2 years ago I was in a points and all hits equaled 1 point which I thought was ridiculous. Singles should be 1 Doubles 2 etc. Also, the less stats we ue probably the better. We should stick to the basics even though I don't remember how it worked for the pitching part in regards to e.r.a and whip.

I'm not more familiar, I have never actually done one.

I just made the switch of my annual league over to the Roto format, so I am ok with keeping Pts. Only now.

Either way.

Hey guys, I just got called out of town on business Monday night into Tuesday, so I won't be able to draft. I feel like it would be doing all of you a disservice for me to go through and pre-rank. I'm also sure that you could find someone better than me to replace my spot in the league. Sorry for the inconvenience, but it was last minute.

Jughead10

Also added holds as a stat and added once more P spot. I think the holds allow you build a more "complete" team. We all know that the 8th inning spot has become a very important part of a team.

Giantsfan1080

I don't like the Hold stat. It's pretty pointless and brings nothing to the table. I say get rid of it.

I don't like the Hold stat. It's pretty pointless and brings nothing to the table. I say get rid of it.

Well the hitting stats well out numbered the pitching stats so we needed to add something. We already had 3 RP spots for each of the 12 teams so it makes sense.

Xiomera
03-04-2008, 07:46 PM
Keep the holds stat in there. It gives a purpose to the otherwise useless Middle Relivers. Not to mention there aren't enough closers to go around.

Thats what I figured. 12 teams times 3 RP spots equals 36 spots. The hold becomes neccessary.

It is points total. I was toying with swtiching to rotisserie, but I left it with points.

Xiomera

I suggest adjusting the stat values to these:

R (2), 1B (0.5), 2B (1), 3B (1.5), HR (3), RBI (2), SB (2), BB (0.5), K (-0.5), IP (1), W (10), SV (8), ER (-1), K (2), HLD (3)

I used them in my own league and they are the best for balancing hitting and pitching, which are currently out of whack.

P-L
03-09-2008, 04:36 PM
I actually don't like the hitting and pitching to be perfectly equal. I like the settings how they are now. Where pitchers are close to hitters, but the hitters still have an advantage. It's been like that in almost all the leagues I've been in. Based on your settings Xio, there were 4 pitchers in the top 6 overall players last year, 8 of the top 10, and 15 of the top 25. With your settings, pitchers go from being undervalued (standard settings) to way overvalued.

That is not the case.

Yes, perhaps the very elite pitchers are valued more than the elite hitters, but that is not reflective of the overall relationship between hitting and pitching.

For instance, the 25th ranked hitter scored 587 points.
The 25th ranked pitcher scored 596 points.

The 50th ranked hitter scored 529 points.
The 50th ranked pitcher scored 515 points.

These stat values also do a good job of balancing the fantasy value of power hitter and speed players. The likes of Jose Reyes and Prince Fielder (both fantasy studs for different reasons) are valued appropriatly in relation to each other.

Also, closers are appropriately valued compared to starters.

Jughead10
03-10-2008, 07:31 AM
I tweak it a bit. Bumped holds from 2.5 to 3 points. And took out the -3 points for a loss. Left the hitting as is. This should add a bit more value to the pitchers but leave the hitters slightly more valuable and with the same points values as I had.

Yoda, Figgins is no Utility guy. He is a top 6 3B, a top 6 2B, or top 20 OF depending on which position you wanna play him at. He would immediatly become the best hitter you have and its not even close.

Yoda, you gotta keep in mind a few things:

Figgins started the year with a broken hand, so he missed a large chunk of the season.

Also, comparing hitting and pitching point totals does you no good. You can't possibly run a team of all pitching studs and lousy hitters. For one, you would surpass the innings pitched total by July, and two, the difference between a league average offense and your abysmal offense would FAR outweight the difference between an elite pitching staff and an average one.

Innings limit for the league is 1750 right now. If that seems like too little for the amount of starting pitching spots we have (Both SP and RP), I'll bump it up shortly after the season starts. I think it should be good though. I originally had it at 1500, but I thought that would be too little.

Good, I was just making sure my waiver went to good use.

I sent you a new proposal, much more balanced than the last one...haha. This one, imo favors you.

Yeah I saw it and am pondering. I'm trying to decide if Rowand would be better than Butler because I don't think he is an upgrade over Hawpe or Young.

I knew I shouldnt have kept putting off that Keppinger pick up.

Just someone to keep in the third base mix. Wasn't keeping Kendrick long term with Gallardo coming off the DL sooner than later. I'll ride him a bit while he is hot for now.
