Justin Smith or Stacy Andrews get it, I'm hoping for Andrews. We need him to stick around way more than we need Smith. Smith is above average, nothing more and he's not getting any younger.

Lewis targeted both front lines as top priorities for the offseason and said the Bengals are going to use their franchise tag in free agency but wouldn't say the candidates. He did say that free-agent defensive end Justin Smith and right tackle Stacy Andrews are key players on each front. Without getting specific, Lewis said progress has been slow in negotiations for long-term deals with the club's own free agents.

it better be stacey andrews. if they franchise smith again i will be appalled.

I like Smith's attitude and work ethic but you gotta be a player to get the tag... I just don't see him being worth it (again).

Given Andrews age I'd still rather just see a long term deal, no sense in letting him progress next year and only have his value go up more.

Andrews should be starting and big old willie should be let go. He is too old and we need to find out if Andrews is the guy otherwise next year we will need a tackle

i think andrews would be an even better guard. willie is fine and he will prolly retire a bengal. a long term deal with stacey is a must but if that doesnt work out we should franchise him. smith needs to be gone, nothing personal but hes not top 5 money.

For those wondering about the potential (non-exclusive) franchise numbers for either player:

Stacy Andrews $7.455M
Justin Smith $9.9984M
(if franchise tagged again, Smith gets 120% of last year's salary)

if we tag smith for 10 million we are officially out of our minds.

I think they'll tag Madieu Williams. The franchise tag for a safety is only 4.4 mill, which is a lot more reasonable than paying almost 10 million to an end that sucks or 7.5 million to a backup tackle.

stacey andrews is way more than a backup tackle. he could be the best offensive lineman on our team.

You think if Willie is back he will start over him? No way. He's not the best lineman either.

He's not our best lineman (yet) but he's only 26... Can't ignore youth. Plus he's versatile. They could easily justify it with him.

Now Smith... That would be a TERRIBLE move seeing those numbers (Thanks, Geo).

well no but he could play guard too. he COULD be our best lineman in due time.

Yeah he could play guard too but he won't start over Whit or Williams. I DEFINITELY think he should be resigned, because I think he is the future at RT (Maybe sooner than future if Anderson retires), but not at top 5 money. He's just not proven enough to be worth that much, since he only has like 11 career starts.

we'd be letting go a future premier player IMO if we don't resign him. i see this as willie's last year. im prolly a bit too excited about stacey because i watch him all the time when he's in and he can dominate. from my perspective (as an offensive lineman) he is scary talented already and hes still a bit raw.

The way things look it's either Madieu or Andrews... Thank god we aren't wasting it on Smith.

I'll second that. Andrews has to be viewed as more important to our long term success IMO.

I was as excited about that as keeping Andrews.

I mean really. Smith is an average player, that's great and all but when you get top 5 money you shouldn't be average.

im telling everyone right now that we will not regret keeping stacey around even for that price. hopefully we get him long term though. he could be really special IMO.
