As far as the actual draft goes, how are we going to determine who's going to be available to be drafted, because we have no way of knowing who's going to declare...I have two suggestions:

1) We could just draft from EVERY eligible player, whether they're likely to declare or not.

2) We could just draft from the 60 players selected in the 2008 mock draft featured on www.nbadraft.net those guys over there seem to REALLY know what they're talking about, so this might not be a bad idea...

I'm gonna simplify it, because this is just for fun.

All Restricted FAs will go back to their teams.

All Unrestricted FAs will be available.

Since I don't have the salary cap numbers for all the teams and it's too difficult to project which teams would actually go over the cap into luxury tax land and by how much, we'll do this:

Your spending money equals the total value of all the expiring contracts of your UFAs.

For example, let's take Atlanta.

Restricted F.A.
Josh Childress
Josh Smith
Salim Stoudamire
Mario West

All these RFAs will return to the Hawks.

Unrestricted F.A.
Anthony Johnson - $2,860,000
Tyronn Lue - $3,500,000
Lorenzen Wright - $3,250,000

The Hawks will free up $9,610,000. They will have that amount to spend in FA. If they want their own UFAs back, they will have to bid for that player.

If the Hawks want more money to spend in FA, they'll need to make a trade for an expiring contract of an UFA.

Each FA will go to the team with the best combination of Money, Location and Rumors linked to that team. All FA bids need to be PM'd to me.

All the trade machine has is the salaries of current players. You won't be able to tell how much over the cap some teams will be willing to spend. There is no hard salary cap in the NBA. Teams can go over, but they'd have to pay the luxury tax. There's no way for you to keep track or predict that.

I'm keeping it simple. You spend according to the amount of expiring contracts of UFAs you have.

feniks, good point. Each team over the cap can use the MLE. Every team can use the Vet Minimum (up to 2). We will not have an LLE.

Michael Redd on Trading Block

The Milwaukee Bucks are in a rebuilding mode and that means that almost the entire team is up for grabs and that includes the franchise's top player Michael Redd. This is Redd's 8th season with Milwaukee and the franchise feels that it's time for change.
"Michael has been a great player for the city of Milwaukee and the NBA in general," stated GM Larry Harris. "We feel that it's time to go in a new direction, and after talking about it Michael doesn't fit the future plans."
Redd has average 20.4 points per game for his career and that is counting his first three seasons in the league where he only started 22 games. In 06-07 he averaged a career high 26.7 points per game. He was an All-Star in 2004, but has not been to the postseason since 03-04.

Just so everyone knows...cause I've already received an offer which I kinda declined, but David Lee is highly overvalued be me and all Knicks fans, so if you're desperate enough to want him, it's going to take more than expiring contracts to get him..I'm going to be expected a very good player in return, because I feel he himself can turn into a 17 pt 10 rb guy...

You don't have to worry about how much it is. You can't combine the number to your cap. If you wanna use the MLE on a player, just state so. In real life, teams can split up the MLE and use it one more than 1 player, but I don't want to get that complicated. Sorry.

All of this stuff should be sent to me. I'm assuming FA signings begin after teams are filled and the trading period is over? I dunno. PF make the call.

Not so sure on that trade, Williams is a pretty decent PG, good scorer, average passer and essentially what the Bucks are getting is 2 late 2nd rounders and a little trade flexibility. I mean I am not getting carried away with DJ Strawberry he is a great defender but has no offense and is shaky running the point and a little undersized for the two. I mean he still is a late 2nd round D-league player, sure he shows promise but guys like Dominic Mcguire or Aaron Gray have shown even more promise, but I guess the trade is alright.

As fenikz pointed out I was aiming for cap relief and Mo Williams is a very good scorer, but he's not a true point guard; more of a two in a one's body. I am starting over and getting rid of the big contracts for players who in my eyes are out of place is the first step in the rebuilding process

Bucks Fire Coach and General Manger

Bucks owner, and Wisconsin Senator, Herb Kohl has decided to strip GM Larry Harris and head coach Larry Krystkowiak of their duties with the Milwaukee Bucks. Kohl feels the team has not been headed in the direction it should be under Harris and it is a direct relation to decisions he has made. Krystkowiak will be to let go to signify a new beginning with the organization. Kohl believes it his duty to the city of Milwaukee to have a team that is successful and is enjoyable for the fans to see. When ask if Michael Redd is still on the trade block Kohl responded, "That will be up to whom ever I hire to run this team and we will sit and talk and see what he feels is best for the organization. The head coach will be fully the decision of the man I hire as well."

Kohl hopes to have a man hired soon so the organization can get the wheels turning on a brighter future. As a side note Milwaukee has not been to the playoffs since the 03-04 season.

Bucks hire new GM and Coach
The Milwaukee Bucks have filled their vacancies at the general manager and head coaching position. Former NBA point guard and current ESPN analyst Mark Jackson has been appointed to the general manager position and he has appointed former Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle to be the Bucks' new head coach. Carlisle was an assistant for the Pacers while Jackson spent some of his NBA career there so they do have a solid working relationship.

"Today is a day we turn the corner and head in the right direction for this team and the city," Jackson said. "I will sit down and discuss today with Rick about what players he feels we should build around and which players we may want to move. This is a long process and can't be fixed overnight even though that would be nice."

I don't see how Kaman will fit in with Toronto, definitely not a Colangelo type of guy, which Moon and Parker happen to be

Honestly I had glut of swingmen type players, and I believe Delfino and Kapono are starters in the league. TNot to mention I plan to use much more two PG sets with Calderon and TJ on the floor together. the Raps biggest weakness is how they constantly get manhandled on the boards. The raps also need a big guy to help bosh, so he cant get smacked around, which was the reason we lost to the nets last year. Also I got great value for a fantastic player young big man in Kaman. Saying that Rasho and Bargnani are available.

Bulls Part Ways with Interim Head Coach Jim Boylan
-------------------------------------------------

Bulls management has decided what has been done with the talent on their roster when it comes to winning games isn't good enough and decided to head in a new direction. Along with a new Head Coach comes a new style. The roster has been undergoing some changes that will fit the new style. These changes have been brought upon by General Managers John Paxson and Nitschke-Hawk. On the court next season you will see an athletic frontcourt possibly not much different than it's current status and a back court of large guards. They will play a run and gun style of basketball.

With that we'd like to introduce new Head Coach Scott Brooks:

http://www.nba.com/media/sonics/brooks_pp1.jpg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Brooks

Scott William Brooks (born July 31, 1965 in French Camp, California) is a retired American professional basketball player. A 5' 11" point guard, Brooks played collegiately at San Joaquin Delta College and Texas Christian University (TCU), before finishing his final two years at the University of California, Irvine.[1] He was inducted into UCI's Hall of Fame in 2001.

Brooks played 10 seasons (1988-1998) in the NBA, appearing as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers, and was a member of Houston's 1994 NBA Championship team.

He also played in the Continental Basketball Association (under Bill Musselman with the Albany Patroons) and the defunct World Basketball League (WBL) for the Fresno Flames. He was named to the CBA's all-rookie team in 1988 and was a member of Albany's CBA Championship team that same season.

He currently works as an assistant coach for the NBA's Seattle Supersonics. Previously, he served as an assistant coach for the NBA's Sacramento Kings and Denver Nuggets.

Brooks also attended East Union High School in Manteca, California. He remains the only student from the school to enter the NBA.

After much deliberation, the New York Knicks have decided to name Larry Brown as their coach and new president of operations.

http://i.a.cnn.net/si/2006/writers/phil_taylor/05/17/hot.button/t1_larry.brown.jpg

Most of you are probably scratching your heads about this signing. Why would he go back to New York after being embarrassed and run out of there? I'll tell you why...1) money 2) Isiah Thomas is gone 3) He's in charge, and what he says goes, that's the kinda of climate that he can handle and 4) everyone loves a little shot at redemption. As far as developing talent and disciplining young players, there may be no better coach than him. This is exactly what the Knicks need, a new image, a makeover if you will, and what better a person to do it with than Larry Brown. Brown's the no nonsense kind of guy that will be able to sort out those who wanna be with the team and those who don't. He is not afraid to get rid of expensive contracts of talented players such as Zach Randolph, for the sole reason of getting rid of him, and at this point, with as little face value as he has, that's the best solution. He's willing to take risks and now that he's the helms, he'll be able to take full control and turn things around.

princefielder28

Carlisle has had tremendous success with every team his coached, often taking his teams deep into the playoffs and compiling extraordinary win counts, with his highest being 61 wins in one season with the Pacers. His understanding for the game and the patience he has to help the Knicks develop will be greatly valued, and with this the Knicks hope to turn things around for the future.

Knicks reasoning for the trade.

This trade was a huge success for one reason and one reason only, they were able to dump Zach Randolph's atrocious contract and bad attitude on a team desperate for some help in the Western playoff hunt. By dumping Randolph's 13 million for 4 years contract, and picking up Mike James's 5.8 million expiring contract and Kirk Snyder's 2 million dollar expiring contract, the Knicks are on their way to some luxurious cap space. In addition, they add a tough, gritty, hustling power forward in Scola, who has a knack for making big plays and always seems to be around the action. They also picked up the 14th overall draft pick which can help their youth movement or be used in another package. All in all, the Knicks have lost some production by loosing Randolph, but this now gives David Lee the opportunity to emerge as the 17 and 10 player he is and frees up tons of cap space.

I need to move Ben Wallace. I'm not asking for much. Please send me some offers, he'd fit great on a good team where you can allow him to be a defensive menace again.

How is FA gonna work?

As far as Koufos leaving and Love staying....Ohio State loses all their talented upperclassmen this year and Koufos has had a solid year and will be one of the few impact "bigs." Kevin Love has always talked about the team and has had a team concept while at UCLA and if he can get Collison, Shipp, and Westbrook to stay then the team can compete for a big title run next year. Love is a real nice college player, but with the talent in this year's draft and the fact that he will not be as dominant at the pro level because of his size and atheltism compared to big men at the next level, he will stay and try to win a title at UCLA.

You put in your offers in and D-Unit will go through them and look at the figures, reasoning, and reality of a player actually going to a certain team and then he'll post them when he sees fit; probably tomorrow.

How come Donte Green isn't in it?? It's very discouraging to me for a reason I will not give cause of strategy purposes.

He has to mature as a player and prove himself before he heads to the NBA; much like Chase Budinger did.

Draft eligible players

DeAndre Jordan, Texas A&M
Kosta Koufos, Ohio State
OJ Mayo, USC
Hasheem Thabeet, UCONN
Bill Walker, Kansas State

If Green has to mature then so do these guys.

I'm ready to take Donte Green with my pick because he fits what I wanna do perfectly, based on that, you can't say he isn't ready for the NBA. I want him on my team and he's just as ready if not more ready for the NBA than these guys just off the top of my head.

Jordan is a lock for the Top 5 because of his potential and he has no reason to stay.....gave me reasoning with Koufos already.....Mayo doesn't want to be in school anyways....Thabeet has really improved this year and as a big man he will be in high demand....Bill Walker leaves because of Beasley.

IRL, I don't think there's any way Koufos leaves. Love and Darren Collison seem like good possibilities, though. I'm a little surprised by not putting Donte Greene on there, but realistically, I could see him staying. I agree with the Bill Walker sentiments though. Maybe not necessarily for Beasley, but simply because he would almost surely have come out last year had he not blown out his knee. And especially because of that, if he makes it through the rest of this season relatively fine, I don't see him wanting to really risk staying. That's how I'd see it anyway.

There's a prospect coming into Columbus by the name of BJ Mullens. Big time prospect at 7 feet who would only take away time from Koufos and Koufos really is the second best big man in the draft behind Brook Lopez so why would he stay in school

You're contradicting yourself when you say those guys are more ready than Green for the NBA. The only reason he'd stay is to get better, and win a championship because Cuse has a ton of young talent. Very similar to the reasoning for the other guys. He's a top 10 pick based on potential alone and he's been in my top 3 since this started. I don't want to ut that out there due to strategy purposes but I have to.

Why can't you just put all of them in there? Why does it matter picking and choosing who goes? Why can't we as a group vote on either A. everybody enters the draft or B. you get to choose?

And it still bugs me that we can't trade expiring contracts when D Unit specifically said on page 3 in a team's free agency example that in order to get more cap room a team would have to trade for expiring contracts. That is killing a lot of trade possibilities.

Donte Greene does not have the game yet to go to the NBA. His ball handling is suspect at best and he doesn't play defense. For the sake of this I am not allowing everyone, and am choosing who I believe should go. It's not a debate and as far as the trading thing goes, if they're free agents they can't be traded; whats so hard to understand. Sorry I may sound like a jerk but that's just the way it's gonna be.

Kosta Koufus isn't near ready. Not even close. You think Motta doesn't know how to use him? Don't think he wouldn't just play both big men in the same lineup, considering Othello Hunter's gone after this year anyway.

I doubt he would leave way too early for the NBA because of a little competition.

Yeah, I go to Ohio State. lol

Mullens is an actual Center while Koufos is a PF. Together they'll be one of the more dominant Big's duos in the nation. Just because he's coming doesn't mean that'd push Koufos to leave. As far as potential goes, Koufos is probably the fourth or fifth best Big in the class. If you've seen him play, you'd say he really isn't that close to being ready. He's less ready than Hawes was last year and Hawes shouldn't have come out. If enough players declare, the Freshman studs will flaunt their athleticism and it'll push Koufos far enough down that he won't come out. There's a slim chance he leaves, but it's certainly no greater of a possibility than Donte Greene going.

Maybe its because I haven't watched him much since the beginning of the year, but when I watched him then I saw a top 15 pick.

I'll agree that I think Donte Green should be added to the list of eligible underclassmen. I don't think Koufos should be taken off though because he's so up in the air that it's better to just include him to just for the sake of it, but Green I think is definitely going to declare...whether he's ready for the NBA or not, he's definitely going to declare...

Green's the 7th player on nbadraft.net and really I made it clear in my last post it's about a lot of guys not just Green but Green sticks out because how can he be a lottery pick in everybody's eyes but you have other guys that aren't nearly a good entering? I also root for Syracuse a bit so I want him to stay there in real life cause they are so talented but if you want the draft class to be as good as possible he, as well as other guys should be there too.
