I had wanted to do one for a little while now and I saw in the NBA forums that some people wanted it, so here it is. It'll be about who can field the best team for the here and now. All current NBA players are up for grabs. As for joining, I won't necessarily go in order, but more so on your track record with these things. thetedginnshow

I found this cool site that did everything for me.

Anyway, draft order's up. We won't have a clock for the first round at least because I'd like everyone to get who they want at first. I'm not sure how you guys want to do the clock. Everyone in this is pretty reliable so I'd have no problem with having no clock at all, but we can do a two hour clock or something instead. It's up to you guys.

WMD
02-15-2008, 12:45 AM
Huh, I think the draft order is screwed up.. if you're going for a snake draft anyways.

thetedginnshow
02-15-2008, 12:54 AM
Oh. I didn't even notice. Haha. I guess I'll have to just do it myself.

Paul
02-15-2008, 07:58 AM
Ha, I've been getting first pick on alot of the fantasy games lately. I will take:

Kobe Bryant
http://alltalksports.files.wordpress.com/2007/10/kb24.jpg

Still one of the best all-around players in the game. If not the best.

Tampa 2 4 life

What is the timespan these picks are for

gpngc
02-15-2008, 10:41 AM
I have to hope the guy I am targeting lasts 2 more picks

No. DH12 is not going to last two more picks.

thetedginnshow
02-15-2008, 12:08 PM
I select Tim Duncan, F/C, Wake Forest.

http://thefeed.blogs.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/05/31/duncan.jpg

With all due respect to the "Big's" getting more publicity right now, Timmy's still the best in the league. Of course the numbers aren't eye-popping, but that isn't how the Spurs play and you know he's saving everything for the Finals. No other F/C in the league can match his post play on both ends of the court.

thetedginnshow
02-15-2008, 12:10 PM
And if we're saying timespan as in what is their play being based on, it'd be for one year as stated above. If we're talking about how long you have to pick, as stated above, no clock for the first round and it's up to you guys about the rest, but I imagine we'll see how things are going.

And from now on, no one mention players that haven't been picked yet. That's god awfully annoying.

T-RICH49
02-15-2008, 12:27 PM
ok my top choice is still available let's hope it stays that way

D-Unit
02-15-2008, 12:55 PM
Is there a time limit?

T-RICH49
02-15-2008, 01:38 PM
for the first round I don't think so but not sure

thetedginnshow
02-15-2008, 01:41 PM
Well I've said it twice now, but there's no clock for the first round. As far as the rest of the draft goes, we'll see. If everyone's reliable enough, I'd rather people not get skipped and we just not have a clock. But if that doesn't work out, we'll have a two hour limit.

WMD
02-15-2008, 04:03 PM
Well, I select...

Dwight Howard, C

http://www.nba.com/media/4-DHoward.jpg

nvot9
02-15-2008, 04:32 PM
This is going soo slowly.....

thetedginnshow
02-15-2008, 04:48 PM
From when the first pick was made, it's been less than half a day. You just have no patience. Haha.

In any case, from the looks of things, we'll have to go to a two hour clock for every round beyond the first. Does 3-1 ET sound good for the clock?

nvot9
02-15-2008, 04:51 PM
It's been 9 hours, and we've done four picks. I understand that there was school and when you think about it, yea that's not a ton of time to take, that's pretty reasonable for later rounds, but this is the first round...there's like 10 players that could be worth any of the first round picks and can be thought of very easily, it's not hard to stop by for two minutes, type Lebron James, and then do what you had to do...it's not a lengthy process where research and stuff might have to be done...

thetedginnshow
02-15-2008, 05:01 PM
Yeah, I don't know. People aren't on all day and you have to consider the west coast people (which the east coast generally forgets about), so I have sympathy for now. But yeah. Once we get to the second round, the clock will be from 3-1 ET and two hours per pick.

thetedginnshow
02-15-2008, 05:08 PM
I'd also encourage sending me lists, even this early. I should be on for a good amount of time throughout when the clock is on each day, and I already know who I want so that shouldn't worry you.

T-RICH49
02-15-2008, 06:26 PM

With Chris Paul gone, I'll select PG Deron Williams.

http://www.sfgate.com/blogs/images/sfgate/sportsevents/2006/10/26/DeronWilliams_300_060103.jpg

Like Chris Paul, Deron Williams is the ideal point guard and him being only 23 helps his cause even more. A very solid perimeter defender, Williams has tremendous strength and size for a PG and is very athletic with an extremely quick first step. His ball handling skills and passing skills are those of a top PG and he's got one of the sweetest shots I've seen this year, great from beyond the ark. He's shown he has the ability to take games over with his scoring but is just as content with taking the games over with his passing. Plain and simple, there are tons and tons of great big men in this league, but complete point guards like Deron Williams only come by so often, and his age makes this pick so much more worth while as he's only got room to go up from here.

Give me Carmelo Anthony

http://artfiles.art.com/images/-/Carmelo-Anthony---Slam-Dunk-Over-Jerome-Williams-Photograph-C12188613.jpeg

Carmelo's a guy that can score 40 on any given night. He can take game's over with his relentless scoring ability and control the ball with the best of them. The way he's refined his offensive game since is rookie year is nuts, because his combination of interior post moves, perimeter shot, and athletic ability to drive are matched by few others in the NBA. He can also buckle down and be a good defender.

Give me PF Pau Gasol.

http://estaticos02.cache.el-mundo.net/elmundodeporte/imagenes/2006/02/09/1139481658_0.jpg

Still just 27, Gasol has a dominating blend of offensive and defensive skills that make him a feared big man. His athleticism, his repertoire of punishing low post moves, and his sweet shot within 20 feet make him a threat to score whenever he touches the ball, and his power, size, and footwork make him a tenacious rebounder and a wall of a defender to go through. His shutdown D is proven simply by this, since joining the Lakers in the last 3 games, guarding Al Jefferson, Shawn Marion, and Dwight Howard, he held them to 19, 15, and 19 points respectively each of which is below their average points per game and relatively modest numbers for such dominant big men.

The selection of Chris Kaman is a happy one for this team. Not only does it gives us possibly the most dominant defensive front court the NBA has seen in recent years, but it gives this team another great young player who's only going to get better, yet is already being considered one of the best at his position. Averaging a ridiculous 13.6 rebounds per game and 3 blocks per game, Chris Kaman brings a tenacity and ferociousness that perhaps no other player can bring. Don't be mistaken though, his defensive dominance does not make up for any shortcomings, he's very good on the offensive side as well and can go off for 25 points and 20 rebounds on any given night. A triple double waiting to happen (points, rebounds, and blocks) Kaman will be a great fit next to Gasol. Did I mention he's the 14th most efficient player in the NBA?

Na that's BS...I was under the impression this wasn't a 1 year thing also...and to all you saying it was on the first post...did you actually read the first post, cause it says the exact opposite...

I had wanted to do one for a little while now and I saw in the NBA forums that some people wanted it, so here it is. It'll be about who can field the best team for the here and now. All current NBA players are up for grabs. As for joining, I won't necessarily go in order, but more so on your track record with these things. Since I want it to run fairly smoothly, 8-10 people tops. We'll probably go 10 rounds, maybe more depending on how things are going.

Haha. I think the problem was that it was the proper usage of the English language. People actually do say "the here and now" while virtually (well, I'd venture to say no one, but you never know) says "here and later".

LOL @ the Brandon Roy thing.

With the Roy pick I take Ron Artest.

With my next pick I take Kevin Martin (unless he was already secretly taken like Roy was even though it wasn't written anywhere which is why I stupidly assumed it was a good pick and didn't check the site until after I was home to discover that someone already had Roy, even though it said he was skipped and that I was up for two picks... I'm fine either way...I misunderstood the rules and think my team would be better of the future were considered, considering my oldest player is 28 2 of my 5 starters will get immensely better over time, but at the same time, I think I've got just as good of a roster if it's only one year so I'm not about to ***** about changing the rule...I say just keep it.

That said, I'll take SG Monta Ellis

http://www.emptythebench.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/04/ellis1.jpg

Already a standout defender, Ellis is quickly emerging as one of the game's best guards. He can play PG or SG (although SG's definitely much more suitable). His ability to explode for 35 points every night, his undeniable quickness strength, and his tremendous ability to drive and make tough layups with contact, while creating foul opportunities make him one of the best pure scorers as of late in the NBA. Not to mention he's a very good rebounder for his size..and as I mentioned has very quick hands and is a standout defender.
